Join Guy Michelmore as he explains how to write a piece of music, how to develop a motif into a tune. But what has all this to do with eggs? Find out here.....
And yes it was A Team not the Rockford Files! Thanks for those pointing this out

Love listening to Guy, it's like the British musician equivalent of Bob Ross painting a picture
Beat the devil out of those piano keys
Guy said this once
@@franciscoaragao9672 ha ha, that's great to know :)
And we're going to put a happy little "E" over here. Lol
Guy's back! Rejoice everyone, rejoice!
It’s so weird for me to see comments like these because my name is Guy lmao
"ass" is definitelly my favourite instrument from Your scrambled version haha :D
hahaha!!
Agreed. "ass" won the day.
Enjoyable video to watch and learn as always
It’s so wonderful. It is educational but it’s so much fun. Your humanity, humble moments and self deprecating humor is so uplifting. There is absolutely no one on UA-cam more fun to learn from than you ! Also constantly pulling the rug regarding video editing and narrative breaks makes me as a broadcast director amused how clever and funny you keep being every video again and again without it feeling forced or scripted. Thanks for sharing your knowledge sprinkled with joy.
After several days without a new video I found myself going through a bit of mild withdrawals. This video is VERY fun and a great precursor to beginning How To Write Music. So good to see you again, Guy!
Rearranging motifs in different styles is always so interesting to me. Final Fantasy 14's soundtrack is absolutely filled with rearranged motifs, and I'm not just talking about the Prelude that's snuck into so many songs. I wish we'd see this more often in other games and other mediums.
Only just discovered your channel. If only I'd had your stuff at the start of my alleged career instead of at the end. Happy days....
I was having a bad morning.....and then I watched this and it made me smile. Thanks Guy for being real and bringing us some fun and inspiration. Off to boil and egg now. Peace!
2021 "Music is an egg" How can we NOT push the like button on this kind of video aha well done Guy
Please make that "left, right, left right" sample available for download.....it would make my week!
Actually he could probably record an entire library!
I would have tried automating the pan for that track, so that "left" is always on the left side, and "right" on the right. =D
@@Theladur sounds like you're wearing the sunglasses of doubt? 😁
Did anyone else hear the A Team tune there ? 😄
@@tonydalton459 Yes! I did hear A-team at 4:48 right before he says "Did I just re-write The Rockford Files?"
When I am looking for inspiration I go here !
Thanks Guy !
Oh what a great way to start off my morning! Hope you’re doing well Guy
your videos are such a great reminder of how much fun it can be to make music
If you're read this, I would love to watch you attempt creating a Future House song.
Don't recall the theme to the Rockford Files, but it sounds like the A-Team to me :-)
Yup you're right
The Rockford files had a wonderful blazing theme. James Garner was the star of the show.
It's both, which is hardly surprising as both were written by Mike Post (who did a lot of great tv themes)
@@AlisonWheeler Thank you for the info, that explains a lot
Do you now have to send Mike Post a dollar?
Rockford Files definitely dates you!
Best tutorials ever..keep em up!
Guy makes me so happy on days when i'm feeling too sick to compose :)
Oops - I seem to have poached mine 😱😱.
Another entertaining and educational video - nice one Guy 😁🎹🎹🎶🎵🕶️
Making childrens story *Wild eyes* "Do I look like a serial killer" ... Guy you crack us all up .. Great video
Best of fun…best of 3…cheers Guy awesome as always! 🙌
Is always refreshing looking and hearing at Guy’s music world. Thank you so much Guy, for all the inspiration and good mood :-)
Hi Guy..
Thanks for your great videos
You know the secrets of motifs are allways invisible for most of the composers this content i think was on of the best contents that you have made
For myself, a Motif can be a rythm driven process, pick a style and apply 4 to 6 notes, to Rock, Reggea, Jazz, Pop,..such a cool vid Guy, your creative process so inspiring to me and others too, I am sure
This was a very enjoyable and inspiring episode. Thank you. Next episode you could continue with each of these to progress towards completeness.
Welcome back, Guy -- we missed you. Love the "mouth" instruments. We don't have them in the US, but I guess I'll have to try boiled eggs and soldiers. Thanks!!
Just as I was wondering if Guy just does "classical" stuff and --OH? Great sketching. Love how you can go ANYWHERE and just seemingly simply DO. Haven't even heard scrambled yet. Lookin' forward.
Just the title cracked me up, you are brilliant sir
That Rockford Files reference was hilarious!
Really enjoy your videos. 👍🏻
Happy Saturday from Texas.
I love these videos. I learn so much. I didn't realize I could make my own sample player with Cubase. Now I have to try it. Thank you so much!
This session is a lot of fun.
Without doubt the most entertaining music teacher on the planet. Watching Guy creating these is so inspiring because it just shows how much fun can be had composing, dropping the seriousness once in a while in favour of the pleasure of creativity. You are an awesome musician, mentor and entertainer and I never tire of your videos :)
You are the best of UA-cam by far!!!
Rockford and Great Escape Files... Garner the love!
Perfect boiled egg. Egg into pan of cold water, bring to gentle simmer then start timer for 4 minutes-simples! Excellent music tut as well😃
Great as always, especially the jazzy part !
I remember the Rockford files (on syndication). It was kinda bad-ass :) I also liked the way you arranged the second piece, including your commentary throughout the entire video - that's the icing on the cake ;)
My Band teacher in Jr High, love the theme from the Rockford Files he made us play it, I was a 12yr old bass player with long hair, so it was cool...Then it was theme from Barney Milller..love the 70s, can only have the moustache now though, and its silver not black
Actually, this was brilliant! Thank you!
I'll be looking for "The Adventures of Wobble and Pobble!" on PBS.
Always a pleasure watching your clips Guy! Especially nice a day like this, tucked down in bed with corona. 😎👍 See, even brought my own glasses.
Get well soon
Rockford Files and Sinister Dexter ! life doesnt get any better on a Thursday afternoon :) thanks Guy !
Rockford Files was great. Now I have the urge to find a car park and throw a few reverse handbrake turns!
I'm now definitely worried about you! You've totally left a strange view of a trip to the beach,😯 Glad you didn't *poach* the Rockford files theme.😎
You were no Doubt the best Newsreader!!! So can we see "Guy Music News" everything that been released in your wonderful news presenting style please please please
This "Guy" is the best!
The fried egg arrangement had a cool "Lo-Fi" vibe!!!!
Loved it! Very helpful. Always find your instructions easy to learn.
Very cool Beatles kinda sound!!...you are a good musician and good at what you do here on youtube !!!
This is simply breathtaking!!
It's that or the A team! marches are generally 120 or 60. Works well in 4/4 or 6/ tradionally. You'll find both easy to keep in step with.
I like your David Attenborough approach to your videos, guy. Very English.
I love this guy ! Class music and great sense of humor . Thank you!
I enjoy watching your videos Guy
The last one reminded me of The Sims! :P amazing as always!
Loved this one! Especially the last one, felt like I was in a cutesy little adventure game.
Thank you for this! I always enjoy watching you create! It's a mood lifter and inspiring to me.
Great atmosphere and well done
What a great way to spend your day over at Guy's Shed.
Genius! Yes Guy, very useful to an old 'chord scratcher' like me trying to come up with song ideas, just for the hell of it! Keep up the good work that man! You've also inspired me to try and learn how to play a little keyboard to add to my guitar efforts. Thanks for sharing. Subscribed!
Fantastic! In the end it sounds like a part of some Sphongle tracks. Nice inspiration that I thank you for.
Cheers!
Thanks Guy - now every time I have to select my audio inputs in Cubase, or every time I pan a track, or every time I cross a road, use an indicator on the road or do one of 10,000,000 other things in life involving the binary choice between latitudes, I shall almost definitely hear the sound of Sgt. Maj Michelmore in my ear >,
Love your energy Guy❤️👍
You're such a card, mate. Love ya.
Quite scrambled indeed, great video
My inner 14-year-old can’t stop noticing the “ass” track when you dropped your voice into the sampler! 🤣
Great video, thank you!
Improvising by humming and clapping your hands into the microphone is a great idea that I've never tried. You would get the rhythm straight away then you just place the notes correctly in the program and add cords.
It works. I find I come up with lines and rhythms that I wouldn't otherwise come up with.
I used to be able to go into one of my mates, and start singing "Gloom, despair, and agony on me" and he'd sing back "Deep dark depression excessive misery" and I'd sing "If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all" and he'd refrain back "Gloom despair and agony on me". And he'd say darn your hide, now I'm going to be listening to that in my head for hours. Stuck back in that old Hee Haw TV show. Much like Guy is stuck humming the Rockford Files theme.
This has been my life for a few years now, and Clive N Wrench. Their personalities are brought to life musically all throughout the game, and motifs have been boiled, fried, poached and scrambled
As always, an eggcellent video, Guy!
Michelmore Rules!!
This was very entertaining to watch. 👍
I seriously adore your videos... you're half composer, half teacher, and half madman, and yes that's three halves, and yes I'm OK with that. Never stop.
I guess most of you missed "lets get this show on the Rode" 0:34
@Evan Hodge Are you Shure?
I liked the jazz thing ! Please do more of that :)
Great analogy!
Got to love a good analogy
@@ThinkSpaceEducation Yes, it sets the scene for understanding
Wobble and pobble finished me off. I'm crying :)
Thank you Guy, that was fun :)
"This is Jim Rockford, at the tone, leave your name and number and I'll get back to you"
Let's get cracking! haha!! was that a deliberate pun?!
Nice way of starting the day after lunch :)
2:35 - 120 of course [see Catriona's comment]! Or 140 if you are quick... But some go a bit slower at 116 - presumably that is at the end of a long march rather than when fresh at the beginning. And the Highland regiments march to bagpipes - so they go at 112: but I personally think that has more to do with avoiding undesirable swirling of the kilt.
The first piece was definitely giving me Banjo Kazooie video when the flute was added
Rockford files! Loved it😂😂
You've moved onto the scrambled egg serial killer. Fantastic. Always a pleasure to watch you work little motifs. Thank you for making me laugh today.
The boiled egg version kind of reminds me of the Police Academy march. Not exactly of course, but close. Hahaha! Love it!
But you missed poached, Guy. The best of the lot, light and fluffy with a dash of Balsamic and super healthy. Brilliant. Love the soldiers :)
Hello Guy, does this motif has any thing to do with my spring entry ? Ha ha ... i so love your videos ... still trying to get to grips with chromatic mediants .. lol
I love Guy so much XD
The scrambled eggs part sounded a bit like Mark Mothersbaugh's rugrats soundtrack. The toy piano and the vocal bass really gave it that feel.
The Cuba library that comes with Komplete has a nice sounding upright bass
Guy you rock!!!
I think lockdown is getting to Guy. But it was a fun video:)
Brilliant!
I was right. Everyone was missing your utterly delightful craziness.
A team!
yes, the rockford files dates you guy, i thought you were 25 til you mentioned that then it all fell into place
Marching pace is 112-120 BPM
Unless you're in the Light infantry which which is 160 if I remember from my youth !
Guy, I would just like you to know that although I’m a new subscriber, I find you highly inspirational and look forward to learning more about music! Also, we have the same name so all of the comments about you sound really weird first time reading through them lol
Great analogy!!
