    thank you the answer was not necesarily for me but for everybody most of which need to have these things spelled out for them every step of the way. I want to remove all barriers to every citizen producing their own fuels @ home it is not that hard.
    thank you for your assistance in this issue. hopefully this video will be redone to reflect this reality.

    excellent video, how long does the beer take to ferment to a high enough alcohol content? is it feasible to use benzene to break apart the water-ethanol azeotrope allowing for a distillation of anhydrous (200 proof) ethanol? or is the small amount of water not an issue when used to run an engine? very interesting video!

    @heyerstandards It compares ethyl to meth as a fuel, & also talks about Butinol fermentation. It also talks about converting a TDI (diesel) to standard fuel injection using Ethyl whilst adding a little biodiesel for lubrication.

    Very nice informative video.Direct approach to the problem and most of all related to a project on a diy scale .
    Thanks for posting the vid.
    I'd really appreciate if you guys could give me any infos about the approx quantity of ethanol you're able to distill per our whit such a setup ( assuming to use corn ) Thanks again and keep up the good work

    Excellent Video.
    Judging from some of the comments here, there is still no shortage of ignorance about fuel alcohol. The prohibition days of hate filled bias against self sufficiency hasn't ended yet. The poorest of soils will grow sufficient material to distill, and do not need to detract from food crops whatsoever.
    The nit wits who would rather fight and die for oil, need to take a crash course in the actual power yield of alcohol fuel as it is greater by 20% and has no harmful emissions.

    I'm interested in this. Where can I find more specifics? Did these guys publish any info on the rest of the story? Like what are they fermenting? how is it done? how much does it take? how much energy does the process use? does it save money or is it an expensive hobby?

  • @MarquisEstelle

    PVC gets soft at higher temps, methanol/ethanol/iso-butyls and many esters all can have a corrosive effect on plastics and PVC. It can reconstitute at lower temps and then you have plastic in your fuel system, simple as that. Whether it it enough to hurt depends on how much dissolves. But you will know if the car starts acting up and you don't know why. If you can build it with PVC, you can build it with copper. Copper is THE material with which to build distillation equipment, the world over.

    I still don't understand the distillation process properly. when the fermented stuff boils, there is evaporation of both water and the alcohol and at the cooling stage the steam condense back to liquid i.e both water and alcohol. what then separate the alcohol from the water to get 95% alcohol?

    • @hichame1968
      @hichame1968 5 років тому

      Ladu, the water and ethanol become gas at different temperature: 180 F is enough to evaporate ethanol (escape from water).

  • @heyerstandards

    Ethanol is a volatile compound, so the corrosive properties are there even at room temp, but increase greatly with temp. But the key is that at, say 172 degrees, the temperature at which ethanol and other members of the alcohol family separate from water, including methanol, there are lots of compounds happening, so the containment of that is important. Copper is universally accept as that metal, from shiners to major distillers. If it could be have done better, they would have. PVC is not safe.

    the PVC argument is probably bunk. PVC is used in the oil industry for transporting all types of chemicals and oil as well as storage. Some simple experiments will be much better than conjecture. My theory is you will fin PVC to be fine

  • @MarquisEstelle
    @MarquisEstelle 12 років тому

    Doesn't matter, the PVC still contaminates the ethanol with compounds. May not render it unusable but it changes the compound. It would be emitted into the atmosphere, at the very least, and just because they're using PVC instead of copy.

    I"m no expert I've just seen people's still's out in the woods a thousand times. I"m just supposing the idea is correct but the implementation(materials used ) is incorrect. however the cost of $30 seems to mean that you could use this machines for a couple of weeks & it would pay for itself quickly. please let us know in your great wisdom how this could work better. I"m not above using something like this to make whiskey to drink or power my car.

    @cdltpx Interesting, going along with the herd does not interest me. However, thats what I see everyone doing, going along, to get along. I'm all for big assed trucks, but mostly for my own reasons. I'm trying a fuel efficient car this year. Next year, maybe a bike, maybe a tractor, maybe a semi. But being in a non-masculine vehicle it becomes immediately apparently what the mentality of the herd is.

  • @MarquisEstelle
    @MarquisEstelle 11 років тому

    Not that I think you are asking this sincerely, but YES there is proof or I wouldn't be saying it.. IN 2006 the TTB released an industry circular saying the PVC resin was unsafe for alcohol storage/packaging. ttb.gov/industry_circulars/archives/1976/76-19.html Now, when distilling, the same principles apply, only moreso since it's hot, and pure alcohol. PVC resin creates subcompounds in ETOH, it effects fuel uses as well.

    We need to have the auto makers to produce more vehicles that allow 100% ethanol usage. Right now the bulk are running on 10% or less. To put large volumes of alcohol in your fuel tank is inviting danger & damage to the vehicle. Maybe we could use this to produce electricity.

    They got a job for you over at BP Petroleum sure... don't tell anyone...., you can raise Cattails in a marsh ( there roots have lots of starch) on sewage and produce tons of fuel. Ethanol is the way to go Biodiesel takes too much energy trade. Brazil is Ethanol fueled. They have the same cars GM ,Ford, when they are shipped to Brazil the put Ethanol carburetors on them... WTF.

  • @MarquisEstelle
    @MarquisEstelle 12 років тому

    You say probably all you want, I know first hand. Distillation on PVC produces a cloudy substrate that goes in solution at distillation temps and stays in solution. Yes it may burn, but it's not pure, you're putting PVC into your fuel system. THat's just the facts.....the fact that they STORE in PVC is completely not the issues. Ethanol is distilled at high temps.....storage temp is beside the point. You're not even thinking. If you have any experience with distillation I'd be surprised.

  • @MarquisEstelle
    @MarquisEstelle 12 років тому

    No, it's not set up wrong and nowhere did I even say that. You really need to look at the effects of PVC on distillate, because it is real and hazardous. Your response doesn't seem to be taking this seriously, and you're supposed to be an expert? Experts are supposed to know every angle and possibility. Cheaper parts are not the point of making ethanol. Copper, the world over and for centuries, is THE metal for ethanol from mashing to distilling. Plastic, PVC, galvanized, all, react differently.

    They don't ever tell the whole story. There has been at least one sprint car running on ethanol in place of methanol for the past several years, 15 that I know of. Although it is combustable, it doesn't have anywhere near the same octane as gasoline. If it is run in a greater than 15% concentration in cars designed to run on gasoline, the computers aren't able to make the corrections where they will run without damaging the engine. Besides possible harm to the engine, fuel mileage decreases to such a point that it actually uses more gasoline than the amount of the ethanol. In basic terms, you will definitely experience a greater than 15% loss in fuel economy. Also, ethanol and methanol are both very hungry. They love to dissolve the rubber in fuel lines and filters that they contact. Ethanol, like everything else the government and media gets ahold of are never ported in a true picture. All we have to do is look toward clean diesel or true electricity to find a solution. Ethanol is just something to sell the consumer under the guise of helping the farmer, where if you listen to other sides, all our farms are going to corporate ownership. Heck, I don't know what the solution is, but I drove through the corn belt and got far less fuel mileage on high ethanol fuels than I did on gasoline and surprisingly, it was no less expensive. They falsely raise the price of pure gasoline to a ridiculous price to show bogus savings.

    ethanol destroys engines, its been about for 60 years we dont use it because it is shit, rubber, plastic, fiberglass all melt, brass & copper (carb parts, like jets and floats) aluminum (carb and head), all erode away, it will run any engine . in to the breakers yard, i tried it it destroyed my engine as the oil seals melted, put an oil seal in a cup with ethanol in, the seal turns in to playdoh and wont go back in to shape,,,NASCAR engines are fine with it, no seals in them ..
