With 4 ACes leading, the Laurel- Missoula passes Austin, MT as an eastbound empty continues down the hill, taking advantage of the extended siding now in use at Austoin.

Thanks Yard Limit. I heard this train blowing for the crossings just below this area, and I lugged that heavy tripod and camcorder up this hill in a panic. I'm surprised the mic didn't pick up my panting as I tried to recover !
Great to see some MAC's back in action!!! I've noticed that there are still some in storage lines but they're slowly come off those tracks and back to the mainlines.
Scott Hiddelston how much longer is the siding now....and is probably gonna be used a bit with the longer manifests (holy Toledo on the east side!) the class 1s and the likes are looking at now...
10000 ft maybe if it fits all the east bound-or most of it -coming off the main. Google shows a great distance in that loop up and around to the Weed area plus doesn't show the siding yet if they ever upgrade the images...
I finally did some research and a 2012 Timetable shows the siding was 9721' and the new extension makes the siding 21,890 (~4.1 miles). This information was found in the MRL Yahoo Group, don't want to credit it as my own.
Thanks for a wonderful video with the trains, but what really got me was the beautiful country. it was outstanding with my wide screen monitor. that was a lot of empty coal wagons would love to see the train when all those was full. wonder home units it would take to move them loaded? Thanks again
Thanks for a very great video. one question; what is it with railroads and all the curves in the tracks? again thanks for the video and all the good secenery.

Great shot, I remember when Austin used to end at the crossing. That was an empty Roberts Banks, Canada to Laurel coke train
Cameron Chapman thanks Cameron, this was the first shot I got of the extended siding.

Todd, I'm not sure of the exact length now, but it goes all the way around Iron Ridge and ends near Weed, if you know the area. Sorry.

They have to try and maintain a steady but minimal grade John, and they're willing to build curves and add miles to do so.
That coal train was neat!
