NEST - Fantastic update to Fusion 360. I do a lot of test nesting using 3rd party programs after drawing up in CAD and it's a pain. A built in nesting engine will always come out top.
This nesting feature is going to be a game challenge for me when I get my cnc put together I was asking people it Facebook cnc groups the best way to mill part in one go instead of one part at a time and didn't really get a good answer but now game changer thanks for this video great work.
This is awesome, Nest workspace will be fantastic I hope is stays in the main version so we don't have to purchase the manufacturing extension to use it.
This has been released, you can skip the enable crap at the onset, instead, maybe tell hobby license users up front this feature is not available to them .
ugh, yea. Sadly, that happened shortly after I did this video. You can use this great add-in as an alternative: ua-cam.com/video/BmuxxvIU2XA/v-deo.html
Hi Saeed. I would expect that to be more automated soon...but the easiest way to do that now is to create a new sketch and then use the Project command to project all the edges to the current sketch. That makes everything available in one sketch, where you can then export it as a DXF (right-click on sketch in Browser > Save as DXF).
Thank you so much for your informative and enjoyable videos Kevin. I am a beginner and working on a Plywood stair project and have been following along using the arrange feature to nest and layout the components of my stair on a sheet of plywood. The next step for me is to set up and send the layout to my MultiCam CNC. Do you have a video to help with this? Many thanks, Steve
@@ProductDesignOnline We've got two Multicam CNC routers with ATCs. A 3000 series and our new Apex R3 with computer vision, drag knife, and oscillating knife.
Hi Monte, there are two ways to export/output dxf for the arranged results: 1. While in the Edit Manufacturing Model environment, project the boundaries of arranged objects onto a sketch and then export the sketch as a dxf OR 2. Create a setup and toolpath operation for the arranged objects. Please make sure the sideways compensation is set to "Center" (for 2D Profile) or "Off" (for 2D Contour). Then you can PostProcess the toolpath by selecting one of the available DXF posts from the fusion post library. In the post dialog, you can set 'onlyCutting' = "YES" to get rid of the linking motion. And you can set 'includeDrill' = "NO" to avoid points at the drilling positions. To download and install the dxf post on your computer, please visit - "cam.autodesk.com/hsmposts?"
Arrange feature is even better this year and you can use it from the design workspace if you set a check on the option in preferences. Advanced arrange is getting better every release. #AutodeskEmployee
Nest! Looking so much forward to this! Using it every day in alphacam, and it just kills the program, and feels like a work around. Will fusion nesting reconise different part thikness and vineer direction?
Arrange is a simplified version of the Advanced Nesting functionality which is currently in development. Advanced Nesting will provide the additional control you are looking for, including automatic material and thickness detection, grain direction, rotation/deviation controls, and much more.
This is fantastic, thank you. Is there an easy way i can use this tool and cut material from a different size stock. Say 6mm mdf so i can make templates and use a router on the production stock?
NEST.... Looking forward to the NEST space.. I've been playing with the arrange and having some difficulties when placing parts onto multiple sketches (I have some flat furniture which takes multiple sheets and like to to the CAM set ups next to each other). So far I've still been moving the parts manually to position after arranging them onto a plane.
I was just playing with this on a design I was working on today. Seems something is different with sheet metal flat patterns I can't get them to work. Was anxious to try the "in-process stock" function.
May have to reset the program (close and reopen) after selecting and applying the preview features - Create Manufacturing Model wasn't an option until I did this.
@@klm8156 If you haven't found it yet, you have go to the SETUP dropdown (located directly below Milling at the top) and then Create Manufacturing Model. Other thing I found out, it only works on components. So if you have a bunch of bodies under a component, you will only be able to select one body, and it'll move the entire assembly without laying it out So every body needs to be turned into a component, which is kind of a pain.
Great Tutorials you have in here!!! for some reason i have no option to the arrange view function, am i missing something?? in the manufacturing menu in the view preferences doesnt show neither..
Hi Marko. Both features are now out of preview and are available. however, it is to my understanding that they are currently only available to the commercial subscribers and not to the free personal use license.

Great video Kevin. However, for us mere mortals who don't have CNC machines and have to cut "wood" with saws, is there any way of creating a drawing of the layout? Or do you have to manually place the parts on a separate design and then create a drawing from that? Thanks, keep up the good work :)
Figured out a way to do it. Very convoluted though. Create a new component in the manufacturing space, start a sketch, project layout onto sketch. Copy the component projections to a new assembly sketch on a new sheet. Extrude projections and create a drawing. Hope it makes sense, I'm a relative newby. Hope your way is easier 😀.
This nesting feature may turn out to be a game changer for me. Trying to manually layout parts on cut diagram was so time consuming - this is an awesome edition. I don't use Fusion 360 to generate g-code for my Laguna IQ CNC and the bed s limited to 2'x 3' so will need to determine how I can next to smaller plywood or stock - I think I just do multiple sketches and pick which components I want on each sketch - is this accurate? I also still need to figure out the best way to export my parts into Aspire or vCarve Pro. Great work.
I'm not sure if this is still possible using the most up to date software version, on a personal, non-commercial license. I tried looking up nesting in their help menu, it looks like that feature is put under an extension which is of course behind a paywall. Unless I am missing something obvious, is this still possible? I'd like to use this with my plasma table. Thanks!

Nesting - loved the video, read all the comments, but still having a question if there is a way to create drawing out of that flat layout without converting any DXF to DWG and useing any 2d soft.
Hi Rainer. You simply need to project all of the desired bodies (Edges) into a single sketch using the "Project" command. You can then right-click on that sketch in the Browser and save as a DXF. Hope that helps! :)

Sry, I'm not following your question. Do you want to transfer dimensions manually onto your plywood? Or looking to layout the dimensions digitally (i.e. 2D Drawing)?
@@ProductDesignOnline Sorry. Say I have a cabinet I have designed and I use the auto arrange tool to arrange it all on a sheet of plywood. I don't have a CNC that will be cutting the material, I will be breaking it down myself. @@rutgis77 thanks for clarifying! Not in the Design workspace, unfortunately. However, the Drawing workspace has a new Automated Drawings feature that can do what you describe (it may not be available on the free Personal use license... I'd have to double check). You can also place the sheet and manually add specific dimensions of you don't want them all for some reason.
Great feature! I think I ran into a snag... when you create a manufacturing model it seems to be a snapshot in time. When I do a bunch of alterations (arrange parts and create tool paths) I notice that the manufacturing models don't update when changes are made in the design model. Did I miss something? I cannot find an "update out of date models" of sorts in the manufacturing environment...!!! Help!
Since Arrange is disabled in the Personal License, what is the best practice currently for Personal users to move the stool's components into a flat stock for Manufacturing?
If you plan on doing it a lot then this addin is worth the 1 time cost: apps.autodesk.com/FUSION/en/Detail/Index?id=3399489440307590024&appLang=en&os=Win64 Otherwise, you can use the Align command or Joints depending on how many parts you have/whether you want to be precise about the placement.
Yeah, it's unfortunate. I recommend the MapBoards Pro add-in for those on the Personal Use license. It's a great alternative and works well. I have a video on it here (using the same. demo file for comparison): ua-cam.com/video/BmuxxvIU2XA/v-deo.htmlsi=kDxreTIbbl2ysHDS
I had to do this to get the "Manufacturing model": Preview Features -> Manufacturing Working Model. Restart Fusion. But I don't have the option for "Arrange Feature" and there is no Modify->Arrange menu item in the Manufacturing model workspace. I have Fusion 360 2.0.9011.
Hi Thomas. Are you on the Personal Use license? I just found out earlier this week that the Arrange feature is currently not available for Personal Use license.
Kevin let me re define my question, I have a simple 2d part it measures approx 6" x 6" x 1" thick, How can I apply them in multiple times on a stock sheet to cut them out. Thanks
After creating your Manufacture Model you can copy/paste them in the Browser. Just make sure you enable the Manufacture Model preview and go that route as that will ensure you don't affect the original design models in the Design workspace.
Unfortunately, Arrange is not available on the free license. I recommend using MapBoards Pro add-in as an alternative - ua-cam.com/video/BmuxxvIU2XA/v-deo.html
Can someone confirm that this is part of the full version of fusion 360 and not the the nesting extension? I know that nesting extension offers a lot more features but I don't know if I have to purchase the extension for it to work
Arrange is available with the Commercial Fusion 360 *Without* the Nest Extension. Advanced Arrange (confusing, yes, but different from Arrange) is only available with the Nest Extension :) None of it is included in the free personal use license.
I tried to Arrange using only bodies. In the dialog box it asks "select objects" and it would only allow 1 body............ I converted all the bodies to components and then it would allow as many components as I wanted to select. For some reason it doesn't work with bodies.

1. While in the Edit Manufacturing Model environment, project the boundaries of arranged objects onto a sketch and then export the sketch as a dxf
OR
@@ravijavia8183 thank you for providing a reply. Before I provide my additional request, I want to say that I appreciate the time you already took to tell me there were two method. I will go try and find out information on these methods. But, if you have a few more minutes and are willing to provide a little more help I would appreciate it, even if you don't thank you for what you did provide.
I have to admit that I must not be proficient enough yet to figure out how to accomplish what you gave me instructions to do. I know how to project in the Design Mode but never worked in the manufacturing mode until following this video's guidance. So not sure how to export just the sketch in Edit Manufacturing environment. Links or guidance to any videos or instructions on how to do this would be awesome.
As for method 2 still need to figure out how to setup a toolpath and the things you mentioned. Any links to this information would be helpful so that i could go learn. Thank you again...
@@robsandstrom9854 you're very welcome. Glad to help. Here are some good resources for Fusion 360 in general:
1. Learning Content - academy.autodesk.com/software/fusion-360 (you can find info about other Autodesk products as well)
- Regarding Setup, Toolpath and NC creation - Go to the Intermediate Tab and refer to "43. Setup", "46. 2D Toolpath", and "49. Post NC File". You can also check out "43. 2D Cutting" on Advanced tab.
- Projection of faces onto a sketch works the same way in "Design" and "Edit Manufacturing Model" Environments. I would recommend trying the DXF post method first.
2. Fusion 360 UA-cam Channel - ua-cam.com/channels/iMwMz3RMbW5mbx0iDcRQ2g.html
3. For specific questions on Arrange functionality, you may post here - forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-feedback-hub/open-call-for-preview-feedback-arrange-feature/td-p/9673457
4. Other questions on Fusion 360 - forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360/ct-p/1234

@@ravijavia8183 thank you will check out these resources.
NEST, is there a way to orient the texture mapping along an axis?
Nest!
there is no arrange feature?
Would this also work if you made a winch en want to 3D print it?

I dont have a CNC but this would be nice for cutting my parts from plywood. How can I get dimension on the sheets?
Sry, I'm not following your question. Do you want to transfer dimensions manually onto your plywood? Or looking to layout the dimensions digitally (i.e. 2D Drawing)?
@@ProductDesignOnline Sorry. Say I have a cabinet I have designed and I use the auto arrange tool to arrange it all on a sheet of plywood. I don't have a CNC that will be cutting the material, I will be breaking it down myself. Is there a way for it to auto-generate dimensions on the layout so I can print it out and follow it like a set of plans?

If you plan on doing it a lot then this addin is worth the 1 time cost: apps.autodesk.com/FUSION/en/Detail/Index?id=3399489440307590024&appLang=en&os=Win64
Otherwise, you can use the Align command or Joints depending on how many parts you have/whether you want to be precise about the placement.
It seems that the Arrange functionality is only available in the paid version. Nesting is essential for CNC operation.
Yeah, it's unfortunate. I recommend the MapBoards Pro add-in for those on the Personal Use license. It's a great alternative and works well. I have a video on it here (using the same. demo file for comparison): ua-cam.com/video/BmuxxvIU2XA/v-deo.htmlsi=kDxreTIbbl2ysHDS
Nest for laser cutter
Do you know if there’s any plan to add dog bones to this feature?
I had to do this to get the "Manufacturing model": Preview Features -> Manufacturing Working Model. Restart Fusion.
But I don't have the option for "Arrange Feature" and there is no Modify->Arrange menu item in the Manufacturing model workspace. I have Fusion 360 2.0.9011.
Hi Thomas. Are you on the Personal Use license? I just found out earlier this week that the Arrange feature is currently not available for Personal Use license.
@@ProductDesignOnline Yes I am. That explains why. Thank you.

Nesting, U I am trying to cut multiples of the same 2 D part,, Struggling as this is all new to me
Is this feature available in Hobby license (Personal) ? I cant update form my 2.0.10940 to 2.0.8749 as You have suggested.
Unfortunately, Arrange is not available on the free license. I recommend using MapBoards Pro add-in as an alternative - ua-cam.com/video/BmuxxvIU2XA/v-deo.html
@@ProductDesignOnline thank you for your answer and many pieces of advice.
Can someone confirm that this is part of the full version of fusion 360 and not the the nesting extension? I know that nesting extension offers a lot more features but I don't know if I have to purchase the extension for it to work
Arrange is available with the Commercial Fusion 360 *Without* the Nest Extension. Advanced Arrange (confusing, yes, but different from Arrange) is only available with the Nest Extension :)
None of it is included in the free personal use license.
how would i design springs and compliant mechanisms in fusion?
Nesting ...
Now it is only available on subscription. F**k.
I tried to Arrange using only bodies. In the dialog box it asks "select objects" and it would only allow 1 body............ I converted all the bodies to components and then it would allow as many components as I wanted to select. For some reason it doesn't work with bodies.
