    These "interview" introductions to Seong-Jin's marvelous CD are invaluable in their help toward understanding the nature of a Ballade. Seong-Jin is already a fully mature artist, and one of the greatest playing before the public today.

    The fact that he just randomly plays and still sounds perfect amazes me......the tone he makes!!!!!

    I just ordered this album after listening to his commentaries. Some people in the comments mention that he doesn’t sound passionate enough, but I think he IS passionate and serious about his music which is conveyed here, just not speaking in western, crazy extroverted way.

      Which is why he's perfect for Chopin

      I don't think it's a matter of difference between Western or East Asian demeanours, even though it's true that East Asian culture values humility more than any other culture. Anyone who is truly confident of what he loves will understand that he doesn't have to gesticulate like a wild monkey to show his so-called passion. It's just the opinion of one idiot in the comments who thinks that way. These are the sort of people who need salt put on his plate before he can taste. I think most of us disagree with him. I think the fact that English is his third language makes it even more beautiful, because he has a way of simplifying and articulating his thoughts in the most sincere and succinct manner.

    He’s right 6:32 is harder than the coda in my opinion also. Struggled with the octave triplets mightily...

      For me. The hardest part was after that section and before the coda. From the fast waltz to where theme 2 gets re introduced.

    Wow. He should stick to just playing piano and never try to talk about music again. He doesn't sound passionate AT ALL. Like a robot or something.

      Michael S yeah, I can tell he's searching for the words to use. Probably I would have a hard time with verbally expressing my love of music using a language that I could barely use to have basic conversation huh? I really do love how this dude plays but I just can't seem to make myself like him..... Meh.

      You are absolutely right , Curtis . DGG , in its effort to attract younger audiences to classical music , believes that a simple and naive explanation is all that is needed : this only leads to lowering the cultural standards and creating a negative exposure to a young and wonderful artist who , is simply unable ( for the time ) to express himself with words but does sit magnificently through the piano ...it is a pity .

    • @chayveeder6079
      @chayveeder6079 7 років тому +62

      On the contrary, I find Mr. Cho's narrative refreshingly informative. One does not necessarily have to speak fluently, especially his third language, or theoretically on the music he plays. Often times, an intuitive personal interpretation can be just as effective, as it is here. His sincere insights are quite persuasive .... he is a very serious artist indeed.

    • @CurtisMcLeodMusic
      @CurtisMcLeodMusic 7 років тому +2

      Chay Veeder everything he says about this piece can be found on the Wikipedia page. Lol. He presents nothing new here. This is just my opinion. He plays very well I DO really like his playing, one of the best I've heard, I can't deny that. However, he is just NOT a star. I find his personality, his story, and even his name so uninteresting. Fortunately for him, none of that matters in the classical music world.
