This man has it all. He knows the forms of tonal music and the theory of each piece he plays. He is no flash-in-the-pan show off prodigy; he is a truly committed musician. I have never heard Chopin played with so much feeling, and so much love. Bless you Seong-Jin.

The way he plays that low F at 00:43 and then sequentialy that low G feels like a warm hug to my ears.

쇼팽 발라드 4번 도입부는 요즘 같은 낙엽지는 쓸쓸한 가을에 어울림.지나간 날들에 대한 회한을 잔잔하게 표현한 듯한 느낌.그냥 개인적 내 생각임.
외모는 미소년이지만 속은 세상 달관한 듯한 철학자같은 조성진에게 참 잘 어울리는 곡.

This ballade makes me feel like drifting into the night sky and travelling around the stars and gallaxy!! I feel fantasy through listening to Seongjin's playing this ballade. Thank you Mr. Cho.
The climax before the coda is my favorite passage in the entire piece, and that’s mostly the reason why the fourth ballade is my favorite out of the four.
His interpretation of the climax is one of my favorites along with Zimerman 😀

조성진은 단순히 테크닉적으로 어떤 곡이 구사 가능한가를 탐구하고, 구사 가능하게 하기위해 연습하는 피아니스트가 아니다.
어떤 곡을 어떤 감정으로 해석하고 표현해야하는지 깊이 있는 예술적 고민을 하는 철학적인 피아니스트이다.
테크닉은 곡을 표현하는 도구일 뿐이고, 피아노는 서커스의 도구나 테크닉 과시의 도구가 아닌 음악을 표현하는 도구라는걸 누구보다 잘 알고 실행하는 뛰어난 피아니스트다.
젊은 피아니스트들은 테크닉에 도취되기 쉬운데, 조성진은 아직 젊은데도 이미 이렇게 완성된 예술성을 보여준다는게 더더욱 놀랍다. 결국 테크니션은 세월과 함께 사라지지만, 진정한 뮤지션은 시간을 초월해서 두고두고 역사에 이름을 남긴다.
조성진의 섬세함은 정말 타의추종을 불허하고, 젊은 피아니스트들 중에 가장 뛰어난 뮤지션이며 그가 역사에 이름을 남기는 쪽이 될거라는걸 의심치 않는다.
The opening of this ballade might be my favorite moment in Chopin's catalog. Unbelievable what Chopin says in that brief introduction.

동영상에 어려운 말씀을 하신 건 없지만..암튼 자주 듣는 팬으로서 제가 이해한대로 한번 적어봤습니다..

발라드 4번 정말 사랑합니다...

제가 첫번째 솔로 스튜디오 녹음을 막 끝마쳤는데요.
4개의 발라드를 연주했습니다.

4번쨰 발라드는 2번째 발라드와 시작이 비슷한데요.
마치..별을 바라보거나 하늘에서 들려주는 노래처럼...
우린 이 곡을 시작하지 않습니다. 왜냐면 이미 시작했기 때문입니다.

사실..우리가 이 피스를 들을때, 우리는 이 피스들이 c major라고 생각합니다.
하지만 사실 f minor인거죠...c major는 f minor의 딸림화음 이구요..
그래서 저는 이게 정말 굉장한 아이디어라 생각합니다.

그리고나서..melo dance가 다시 시작됩니다

개인적으로 저는 4번째 발라드가 가장 연주하기 어려운 피스라고 생각합니다.
왜냐면...기술적으로도 물론 어렵고요..하지만 음악적으로도..매우 복잡합니다.
그리고, 복잡한 감정을 표출하는것도 어렵습니다.
그리고...이 곡은 쇼팽이...물론 쇼팽은 젋은 나이에 사망했지만..상대적으로 다른 피스들과 비교했을때 쇼팽이 꽤 나이들었을 때 작곡한 곡입니다.
그래서..많은 재밌는(? 좋은?) 아이디어들이 있습니다..예를들면 반음계(chromatic)가 많구요..그리고..
특별히 이 곡을 좋아하는 이유는 이 곡이 마치 바하의 푸가(작성자 주. 돌림노래같은..아시죠?) 같이 느껴지기 때문입니다.

처음으로 돌아가는 방식이 정말 어메이징 합니다.

그리고..가장 드라마틱한 파트는 곡의 끝에 있습니다..코다 전에요..물론 코다는 드라마틱 합니다.
하지만..코다 전에..저는 여기가 감정적으로 클라이막스라고 생각합니다.
D flat major, 피아니시모로 시작하구요.

그래서...이 4개 발라드는 쇼팽의 가장 드라마틱한 곡들인데요.
정말 유니크합니다...저는 이러한 형식은 그 당시 일반적이지 않았다고 생각합니다.
모든....베토벤, 모짜르트, 하이든 등은 정말 많은 소나타를 작곡했지만, 발라드는 그 당시 일반적이지 않았습니다.
그래서 저는 이게 정말 위대한 아이디어라 생각하구요.
쇼팽은...이 곡을(4개 발라드) 한번에 연주하려는 의도는 아니었겠지만,
어쨌든 제 생각엔 괜찮습니다...이러한 스토리나 드라마 때문에...개인적으로 저는 이 곡은 정말 쇼팽의 위대한 명작이라고 생각합니다.
