    I have the as current 844 from this run, but I wouldn’t mind seeing them make the Two Tone Gray 8444 with the Mars Light. Now they just need a run of the 844 as the mentioned above TTG 8444 and a Paragon4 run of the GS-4 in the Large Lettering 4449 with the black wall wheels to model when the 2 met in 1989 at LAUPT.

    • @jlwii2000

    I’d like to see a comparison review with the new Trix 844. The two seem similar. The big flaw with BLI is that is the wrong pilot for 844. Trix got that correct.

    While the broadway limited model has probably the best detail, I will stick with the athearn genesis version
    Every Broadway limited engine I have bought always has some kind of problem that makes it terrible running with either a really rough drive system, terrible pickups that constantly loose power or wheels being so tight that it derails on nothing
    While yeah the athearn models might weigh less because of a plastic body and has slightly less detail I find that they are way more reliable in operation than Broadway limited models

    • @ldaudelin
      @ldaudelin 2 роки тому

      I agree. I have half a dozen BLI steam locomotives. Every now and then, I have to send back for repair. It seems there is always a little something that will stop working, like the steam. Not mentioning how capricious they are while passing switch, like you said, losing power or causing a short. They are probably the most detailed and good looking steam locomotives but they lack in reliability, IMHO. I must say that the BLI repair department has been very nice to me (I spent a few hundreds on repair already, so I guess that helps).

      @@ldaudelin do their n scale units suffer as well from similar issues? I’m asking because I’ve been eying their PRR T1 Duplexes for a while.

    • @jlwii2000
      @jlwii2000  2 роки тому

      I haven't had any pickup issues but I understand Athearn's locos work fine as well.

    • @ldaudelin
      @ldaudelin 2 роки тому

      @@ironhorsehistorian9871 I have no idea since I only have their HO products. Depending on your layout, it might be worst because N is much smaller than HO.

    • @ldaudelin
      @ldaudelin 2 роки тому

      @Bill Chisholm I sent my MILW S3 for repeated problems with the drive, where it would start to move erratically after a while. I've sent it twice so far for this problem. At the last repair, they replaced the entire tender with one that has the Paragon4 decoder. The positive is that it now comes with a capacitor on the decoder, so no more problems with pickup. The negative is that when the locomotive is stopped, or turned off, there is no longer cabin light and head light.

    Hey James, I was curious, BLI says the minimum recommended curve is a 22, have you tested to see if it would derail on a 18 or 20 inch curve? Their Big Boy which uses the same 8 wheel drive wheels can take an 18, so I was curious why this locomotive wouldn't be able to when it is much shorter in length. My space is limited where I am going to construct my layout so if I could get away with an 18 or 20 inch curve it would much more ideal, otherwise there would only be 1 inch between the edge of the layout and the track if I ran a 22 which really limits my creativity, and puts my trains at a greater risk of damage if they derail, although when it is complete I will be adding a small plexiglass wall around the edge to prevent unwanted tumbles.

    Beautiful locomotive with one pain - decoder. That acceleration to speed step 1 is like by toy models. Second - sound... not state of the art... The best option ist to use ESU LokSound to create best model of this locomotive... Smooth motor drive control with beautiful sound and possibility to add custom sounds...

    • @jlwii2000
      @jlwii2000  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching! LOKsound is pretty good. I wonder if you can wire up a loksound decoder to do synchronized puffing smoke though. I think BLI has some sound options that replicate 844's whisle fairly well.
