  • A Maine man who won one of the biggest lottery jackpots in American history has been accused of stiffing his family for their promised share of the loot, including backpedaling on setting up a million-dollar trust fund and covering medical expenses for his father.
The unidentified man - who bought the winning ticket in Lebanon, Maine, on Jan. 13 last year before striking it rich with the $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot - has been in a legal battle with his daughter’s mom since November, when he accused her of violating a non-disclosure agreement by telling the rest of the family about his newfound fortune before their daughter’s 18th birthday in 2032, according to the Independent.
But in new court filings, the mom - identified by a pseudonym, Sara Smith - claims he was the one who spilled the beans about the historic win to his family, not her.
The lucky man’s father buttressed Smith’s claims, saying his son told them about his victory before rattling off all the things he planned to do with the spoils, which the outlet said he collected through an LLC in a lump sum north of $500 million.

How could you do that to your family? I know they’re suing but they’re probably hurt beyond repair.

This is pathetic lol…generational wealth should bring nothing but happiness to the entire family…if I was in that position I would give my family anything and everything they wanted or needed. Even if it left me with nothing. If you don’t have family you have nothing.

Everyone's family is not yours, or necessarily similar. Do you know how much *ABUSE* OCCURS within households?? Get a _CLUE, Jake._

It is his money, when he was in debt no family came in to help him pay off his debts. Lottery winners most loose their money by giving gifting or money to family & friends without a concrete plan. It is money & they are not entitled to it.

This is sad. Family comes first. If i won the lottery, they wouldn't have to work ever again.

    Pitiful.
That's why you can never tell anybody about winning the lottery everybody has a handout and most likely he would have helped them but they don't want to wait for him to make a decision to give them what is rightfully his, they want to take it. Just because a person is blood related don't make them family!

To me what is to really gain from being sued by your own family members for winning a lottery? Absolutely nothing to gain from this and it creates more crab mentality.

Yeah, that guy randomly pick my number out of a phone book and said if he wins, he was going to give me half the winnings. Just to be nice to a stranger, he said.
