  • In this video I show how to make a super simple spring reverbn, using only a small speaker, a piezo, and a spring from one of my kids toys (which they hopefully wont miss ;)
It is a project I have been wanting to try out for a long time, and I am very happy I did try it, as it is so easy to build and such a fun effect to play around with.

In the true spirit of DIY modular you have made a spring reverb module that does not sound like every other spring reverb. It is unique, it is uniquely yours. Nice one!

It would be interesting to place an electric guitar pickup close to the edge of the spring. I bet the output of that would add an extra layer to your soundscape. It'll also be interesting to make your own springs.

Yeah, I actually had the same idea that a guitar pickup on the side would be another interesting sound source.... I'll see if I have a pickup lying around :)

Love it Kristian! The pattern at around 27 minutes sounds fantastically lo/Fi and gritty.

Great stuff cant wait to build this. I just had a question about the schematic you linked. I noticed on the input stage side that R2 is only connected on one end. Is this to be interpreted as connected to ground?. also RP1 shows leg 1 going no where as well. same thing to ground or no?

did you figure this out by any chance? I would think they would both need to be connected to ground, right?

I've seen a design which uses 2 small dc motors in place of the speaker and piezo.
And I was wondering if I could use a couple of relay coils (one to make the spring vibrate and the other one to pick up the signal).

Hi first thanks for all your great videos ! I cannot find the Ne5532 so I will go with the TL072; is it the exact same circuit and I can just replace the chip, or would you recommand any changes ?

probably not very useful but i imagine a rubber band would make a very low passy reverb :)

Do you have list of components for the new modules? The first excel-file ends at day 8

Do you have a forum to ask questions about these builds? I got stuck on the baby8

    •  3 роки тому

I usually ask people to ask I in the comments section of the specific videos as that benefits others aswell who might have the same questions.... :)

Hey can you use a reverb tank instead of a make shift one?

    •  2 роки тому +1

No. Not with this circuit. I tried and almost fried it. 😜 I think the impedance is very different for a true reverb tank. In the video I talk about a website where they built a true reverb tank. Take a look at that schematics for something better suited for “the real thing” :)

I know this guy tried his best to offer something useful, but that butchered speaker was just too much. It looks like something better could have been used instead of that as an actuator for the spring. And I hate to say it, but it seemed like the man was struggling with the English language yet he was addressing English-speaking people! Ok!

    •  Рік тому +3

Oh well, cant please everyone ;) And you are correct there are much better ways of doing a spring reverb out there... I just wanted to show how super cheap and easy you could make it if you really wanted to :). Struggling with english was a bit harsh though right? ;P

Why not simply appreciate someone's effort to inspire others? It actually takes very little 😉
