Best episode yet. I think this episode shows the divide between the GWR and LMS engines. I love the character of Stan and Max especially. Max reminds me of De La trip in how he acted as if he were LMS built despite being built at Swindon and joined in with the teasing of Bride. I love how Stan actually shows how he cares for engines on the line of Lord Stovell's. To add to that he was someone who was forgiving towards Max after he was found out. As I said this was a great episode.
it was very nice of the Black five to lend the GWR engine a buffer with her passenger train when she broke down outside the engine shed. I thought that the new engine Max was one of the 8F engines built at Swindon during WW2 for a moment.
Thank you! I can’t say I wasn’t inspired by Tom’s De La Trip storyline in a way, I just hope my own spin on the idea was just as good. Stan really wants to make a go of being an engine of New Wessex. He loves the island and wants to help Lord Stovell succeed.
A most eggsalad episode Andy! Very much enjoyed the interactions between the midlanders and their warped sense of 'humour'. Cant wait for seaforth and falklands to get their comeuppance eventually!
Right at the end, I wish someone should have mentioned to Frank there was a war on when Max was built in 1944 (I checked the number for the build year). As Frank was built in 1951 at Horwich (oddly, my great grandfather was a fitter and turner there in the mid-1950s), he clearly hasn't been told of the struggle locomotive builders on the LMS were having during the conflict.
The line about Hercules' exhaust beat fading into the night at 21:25 is pure poetry man, cant wait for season 2, I'm very excited and I cant believe that its only 2 months until Autumn, keep up the good work Andy, and stay healthy
Loved this episode, I knew there would be rivalry between the fleets. Also nice to see a more in depth look into Stan’s character and how the feud with the other midlanders will play out.
Another brilliant episode Andy sad I missed the premiere but regardless it's nice to have a Midland focused episode even if most of them are complete and utter wankers can't wait to see if and when Max's character develop further as well as Stan's
Given how many Stanier engines I'm seeing, I'm surprised that this isn't sponsored by BMG. And here's a thought, were some 8Fs actually built at Swindon in real life? One last thing, I really don't like the prejudice 46108, 45606 and 44687 have. How did they end up with such an attitude?
Haha if only! I’m way to small to be sponsored by anyone! And yes, to answer your question, 80 8Fs were built at Swindon during WW2. 48440 was one of those 80. I guess they have that attitude because they live in an echo chamber of opinions. Maybe also a bit of them projecting their insecurities into insults. Maybe we’ll find out later in the series?
@@SteamingWestwardsProductions during the war and perhaps just after it Swindon works built LMS designed 8F heavy goods engines. Max should be proud of being a Swindon built example and that lot should be proud of their designer's GWR origins.

@@eliotreader8220 He is, it's literally the plot point of the episode.
Yes Eliot, he is one of the Swindon 8Fs. That’s all revealed at the end of the episode, hence all the tension now!

Thanks Tom! Always appreciate your praise dude. Looking forward to the story arc playing out in the future! Hopefully everyone enjoys it.
“EMOTIONAL DAMAGE” absolutely brilliant
Thanks, Connor! I enjoy putting those little jokes in 😅

Now this, this is content.
also if Falkland survives until 1982 i would love to see how he reacts.
Thanks very much!
Unsure he’d be happy about the concept, he’d probably get bullied and called Islas Malvinas or something 😂
Like always great work mate.
Thanks very much!

Another great episode great work and it’s great to see an 8F in a series and great work and I’m looking forward to seeing more work
Thank you! Can’t wait to bring Max’s storyline to you all, it’s going to be good!

Cheers James! Plenty more Midland episodes to come, maybe we’ll see a change of heart? Max and Stan do be chads tho.
Very well put together episode, Westward. Hope my praise for this episode makes up for my somewhat insulting comment on the original SVRS
Bedankt

Yes 8f were built in Swindon during the war and a little time after.
From what I have been told
They do literally say at the end that Max was built at Swindon, hence why the others dig into him
Haha if only! I’m way to small to be sponsored by anyone!

46108 and co. honestly remind me of the King Arthur in TDRS. Or rather, how De-la-Trip acted when he first arrived at the DR.
It also reminds me of RTR but only this time, the rivalry is between the LMS and GWR
This is my favorite episode for obvious reasons if you read my username
Love the Scouse. Such an interesting accent
Me being an American: "what's so bad about Swindon?"
Nothing really. But the LMS and the GWR were rivals in the days before BR. So prejudice against rival regions were still a bit hot.
I have a feeling that those 3 midland engines will be involved in that sabotage in rails of refuge
Can confirm they have no idea what is going on on the Redwick and Chiltern Hills
They don’t even know that the Redwick line exists, nor do they care because it’s a Western Line.
DAVE
Is he going to make a visit
Might have to wait till Season 2 to find out 😉
It would be nice to see him visit another railway
i think you should bring on a 2-8-0 7f in blue
Never say never, I’m still planning on bringing Arthur back at some point.
@@SteamingWestwardsProductions you had a 7f, im pretty new to the series
Arthur was the 7F I used to have in my old series. He is always on my mind to bring back.

'Flaps', hehehe. They're smoke deflectors, designed to lift smoke away from the boiler so the driver has better visibility.
