- Here is Part 2 of our shelling trip to remote, Cape Romano Island, in Florida's 10k Islands. My buddy and I primitive camp for 2 days and continue to find unbelievable shells!
Native Guided Fishing Tours helped us get out to this remote spot, and were absolutely amazing. I have left a link for their website below here:

This was dream like. Beautiful music and setting. Awesome shells.
For you guys it was “camp” Romano Island 👍🏼👍🏼 Stunning cone and chocolate whelk 😍 beautiful video as always I love your drone views!!! I was on Shell Island this morning right off Cape Romano and SO thought of you ❤️🐚 Happy shelling and video editing 👍🏼👍🏼
Camp Romano, lol - indeed it was! From our camp site, you could see Shell Island in the distance, and it was quite spectacular looking on the horizon. I'd love to get there some day!
Thanks for watching, shell friend!
A true paradise of beautiful shells everywhere!!

You offered me a chance to smile when I really needed one! Thank you
I am so glad to hear this content and can provide you joy 💙
You know it's an amazing day when you find one of your best shells after you thought the day was already over! Super nice Fighting conchs too, I can't believe you guys found a perfect albino one! I've yet to find one that's not just a piece. The ones with the purple aperture are in a league of their own. It seems like the tree roots help trap a lot of the shells washed up there that otherwise could have been washed back away in the tides. What a spectacular trip, thank you so much for sharing!
Oh man, you know the drill for sure, haha! After you've already considered everything wrapped up for the day, and then you find your best one!
I seem to find that albino FFC's, and FFC's with albino tendencies are more common in the 10k Island region. I also have a speculation that the shell piles, and buried shells in tree roots here were from the autumn hurricanes, and left untouched because not as many go to this island for shelling(as opposed to Dickman's and Kice) - I am not entirely sure though!
Thanks of course for watching!
I absolutely loved these two videos! That giant horse conch was amazing! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching, shell friend!

Just loved this trip--I've never seen any shelling videos from Cape Romano prior to yours, so thanks for checking out a "new" island! Your finds were amazing, again!
Hello, and thanks for the great feedback! Whenever possible, I try my best to get to places that may not necessarily be on the common shelling maps. It always makes for a truly unique experience 💙
Thanks for watching!
What a beautiful amazing island!!! I am fairly certain that the first cone on the last morning was not a Florida cone, but actually a Sozon’s Cone, also known as a Flame Cone. Nice find! I love all the gorgeous bright orange Fighting Conches and the gorgeous purple lipped ones too! I love to wild camp and that would be amazing to camp on an uninhabited island. I have only been to Kice so far, but I would love to get back to the 10,000 islands soon. And the horse conch at the end!!! Choice words indeed!!!! Wowsa!!
Ooohhh, another person also mentioned this as well! To my understanding, Sozon Cones are extremely rare in SW Florida, but are more common in SE Florida, and the Panhandle. I am 99% certain the cone at the timestamp you mentioned is a type of Florida Cone - there are many colorations and patterns present in this species, and I think there are also a couple sub-species.
I am planning to do another, more robust "How to identify your Florida shells" video again soon, so perhaps I can address the cone in the room, lol!
Thanks for watching!
Spectacular!! 😍🔥🐚

How long are you allowed to camp there. That's so cool. Your look sun burnt
I am not sure of the exact rules for the duration of time that's allowed to camp, but we were here for 2 nights.

They can come in such cool colors, and patterning! Thanks for watching! 💙
Is sanibel suitable for visitors now since the hurricane?
Hello! I don't reside in Florida, so I am not as up to date on updates from the horrible recent storms. If you are considering Sanibel Island as a shelling/travel destination, this website has quite a bit of helpful information on how the island is recovering from the storms: sanibel-captiva.org/
Thanks for watching!
Thank you! 😊
I think I got stung by a cone in Croatia. My hand was itchy for about an hour.
Oh no! I hope you were ok after!
It was most likely a Mediterranean Cone snail - they can sting, but I have read that the sting is similar to that of a bee sting, unless of course you are allergic!
Thanks for watching!
Just FYI…Nautica is pronounced gnaw•ti•kuh
Hi friend! Growing up while studying shells, I always knew this shell to be commonly referred to as the "Gaudy Natica", not Nautica. The shell is also widely documented in most shell identification books this way.
Interestingly, over the past 5-10 years, there seems to have been a shift colloquially, in how people commonly refer to this shell, with "Nautica" now being used in place of "Natica." It should also be noted that another alternate, common name for this shell is the "Colorful Atlantic Moon-snail".
Of course, these are just the common names! The scientific, Latin name of this shell is Natica canrena 💙
Thanks for watching!
That was not a true albino shell. It had color and was not translucent.
Very good call! It actually just has albinistic tendencies.
Thanks for watching! 💙
