Nice fishing Iain - I like the tempo you put into that double spey - that slight pause at the top before you deliver makes all the difference. All the best and tight lines!
Thanks Philip you are obviously one that recognises that creating load before the forward cast is essential for an easy days fishing for the older guys ............ I listen to the rat pack often while traveling to the river 👍. Cheers Iain. 🥃
Thanks Neil. I have been quite lucky on that beat of the Tay and Mike the ghillie is always there giving encouragement but sometimes doesn't want to appear on the videos .... It's a shame because it would show how helpful he is ....... and he is very photogenic 😀. Cheers Iain. 🥃
I hate using a net but because the wading was uncomfortable Mr Mazo and I thought that it may be easier than unhooking it in the water , but I made a right mess of things . I suppose things ended up ok as the fish swam away Cheers Iain 🥃
Thanks Michael my intensions were only to stick a couple of videos onto UA-cam after getting a Gopro for my Christmas from Frances. I received that many great comments like yours that I have continued to take the camera on my outings . Tight Lines If and when you manage out . Cheers Iain 🥃
What a cracking day Mitch only did I get a couple of seatrout ,I met some new freinds and caught up with some that I have known for quite a few years and the bonus was I went home with a sun tan 😊 Cheers Iain 🥃
Lovely fresh Sea trout there Iain... The way the first one took off I swore it was a Salmon... Game fish they are! Great stuff and tight lines for your next outing! I am off for the first trip since last August.... Can't wait... Thanks for keeping me sane up to then! 😉👍 Cheers James 🥃
I would like to advise you that your hearing is in perfect condition Rodger That is a sound I could listen to all day I hope all is well in Texas . Keep your rod bent 🎣 Cheers Iain 🥃
My Irish ☘️ luck I gave to you has got you off and running Iain 😄, love to hear the reels scream.... River Moy fishing excellent 300 on rods last week... more need returned tho... best of luck
Thanks for passing some luck of the Irish over to your Celtic cousin . You seem to be having great runs on the Moy I hope that you are adding to the tally Tight Lines 🎣 Cheers Iain 🥃
Thanks Chris it has been hard this year for a lot of us anglers with the lack of salmon . but the biggest part of our fishing is getting out and enjoying the day out I hope that this year is a good one for you Tight lines Cheers Iain 🥃
Iain that’s barmy! Clear blue sky, barely a cloud in sight and two nice fish. My heart was in my mouth on the second fish lol. I can imagine fishing this place on an evening with a switch rod?
Hi again Andrew It is strange fishing in bright days and a couple of sea trout came to the fly. A friend fished on that evening and never touched anything . I was fishing with a 12ft 7# and it is fun when a fish takes but as you say a lighter switch rod in the evening would be fun . Cheers Iain 🥃
Thanks Kawacking some days on the river are better than others and it ranks high but after each trip to the river there is always a big smile to drive home with and a wee dram to warm up with when arriving home Cheers Iain 🥃
Hi Simon I dont think that I will make the Hallidale or the Thurso this year . I hope that you get all the rain you need for the Erriff . I wish there were some small spate rivers nearer me as I love to fish them Tight Lines Cheers Iain 🥃
I had a lot of problems with downloading and editing that one Mr K a lot what I recorded when I hooked the second seatrout was ruined because of a faulty memory card and I am glad that I had enough footage to show how nice a fish it was .... A seatrout like that one is more fun than a wee grilse the same size . The memory card is now in the bucket and good old Amazon delivered another . Cheers Iain 🥃
Thanks Colin I had problems with the camera about the time the second seatrout took the fly and thought that I had lost all of what I had recorded . It was difficult to edit and the SD card is now in the bucket and now have a new one delivered today Cheers Iain 🥃
Thanks Paul they were a pair of nice seatrout . I take it that you never saw the video from January last year when I returned the seal from quite a distance it is worth a view and from memory it is is in one of the videos early last year at Upper Redgorton Let me Know what your thoughts are if you view it Cheers Iain 🥃
My favourite line was, “I’m making a right mess of this.”…..so it’s not just me that get’s in a tizz when I hook a decent fish!!!😃. Well done that man!
Its not happened that often this year Stephen But on the occasions that I do hook into a fish a tizz can be an understatement . I never know if I should use the net as I prefer to unhook fish in the water and try not to handle them . I have even had one fish go through between my legs twice before I could release it Cheers Iain 🥃 Tight Lines 🎣
Well done Iain....couple o cracking troots there. I don't go after them now since I killed the wee bat by accident...proper traumatised I was. Keep at it mate...theres a 20lb er there just waiting for ye
Thanks Kevin You were unfortunate to have seen the demise of a wee bat . When I fished for trout late into the evenings when I first started fishing . I normally had a cast of size 16 flies and hooked a few bats but managed to lay them on top of fence post and when they recovered they flew off . most of my seatrout over the past few years have been in daylight as I tend not to fish into the dark as I am usually tired Cheers Iain 🥃
Hi Hal they were both sea trout Hal . it is not common for sea trout to be active in bright sunlight even more so than salmon . it was great to hear the reel singing Cheers Iain 🥃😊
I have been told if a sea trout stays in the river, it turns into a brown trout, are people having a game with me. How many lb is your leader, thanks for showing us your video.
Rodger the guys that you have been talking to are correct . seatrout are brown trout that have gone to sea and when they return to spawn a lot of them especially in the Tweed stay in the river. I have caught big trout in May that have been to sea and returned in the Autumn and are known as well mended seatrout. some large fish stay in the river and eventually take on some red spots . I fish different strengths of leader starting in early Spring with 18lb and summer I may go as low as 10lb and then 20 in the Autumn. Cheers Iain 🥃
Really enjoy watching your videos Iain just wondering do you give fish much line before you lift into them typically or do you vary it for spring Autumn fish and Grilse
Hi Paul I am no expert I just enjoy going fishing . A lot of the time I try to let the fish take line before lifting the rod but it all goes out the window when something pulls on the end of the line . It is a natural instinct when something pulls at you you automatically pull back . if you can get your brain to alter that instinct you may land more fish . I like to work the fly and that means I am pulling on the line and it is very easy to pull the fly out the fishes mouth and some times it means you set the hook tighter . there are so many experts out there that if you loose a fish you must have been doing it wrong . the best advice I can give is relax and enjoy going out and let the fish hook themselves and try not to pull on them to hard when they take...... Tight Lines 🎣 Cheers Iain 🥃
Iain thanks a million made my day, Iv hooked landed and lost fish doing all the right and wrong things, thanks so much for the reply again I love the videos tight lines to you too 🙂
I was out yesterday Colin and after the 22oC on Tuesday it was only 10oC with an upstream wind I saw a few running fish but I think I was in the right pool at the wrong time when they went past . Cheers Iain 🥃
if you look just before I say that Robert. you will see when I am turning the camera off that the fish starts to pull on the line . I have to switch the camera off as its the only time that it shows how much power is left . I will need to make sure that I switch it off when the fly has started to be retrieved Cheers Iain 🥃
