What a prospect of you hand-lining in a salmon Iain! Never a dull moment. For all the fish in the river I would not have the nerves for your man bellowing at you.
Hi Jon sorry about the delay in responding I have had to help my son with his problems When I managed to get a hold of the line I felt the fish give one head shake and there it was gone. I have thick skin and I have known Douglas for many years and we get on well and have been known to shout abuse at each other and he always brings out the biscuits when he makes a cup of tea Cheers Iain. 🥃
The line was rapped around the reel and I never saw what part of the reel cut trough the running line Paddy. All I remember was watching the line go up through the eyes and start to disappear downstream Cheers Iain. 🥃
That's a lovely wee bit of river... that fish you lost took with a real thump... I am so used to losing fish now its become normal! 🤣 I hope you're luck changes next time out. Cheers James 🥃
I think up until this one I have lost eleven and landed one James. We go through Patches like that and begin to doubt our tactics and we know it will all come good at sometime Cheers Iain🥃
Thanks Dave I wasn't a 100% on that day. My son had an exhibition the evening before and there was an abundance of fizzy. I suffered for most of the day and still don't know how I managed to get hold of the line Cheers Iain. 🥃
Just one of these things Tommy I wasn't feeling that great and suffered most of the day. I think that my head was a bit numb and I should have noticed the line was wrapped around the reel. Cheers Iain. 🥃
We always have a next time to look forward to Christopher We anglers are the eternal optimists I have been on a few trips since this one and need to do some more editing 😁 Cheers Iain. 🥃
ive often worried about that exact thing happening, I use a 1950's JW Young Beaudex and the sides of the reel seat are sharp edged and the running line loops back and snaps against it on the cast, I think I'll pull it off and give it a touch of the polishing wheel and round those edges down.
I am not sure where the line was cut through on the reel Andrew but I think it may have been on the reel seat. It's a thin running line and. I just watched it go up through the eyes on the rod before working out what had happened Cheers Iain. 🥃
That was different! I thought fir a second you had taken a tumble ....it happens to the best of us. Not much water by the looks of it. Another day maybe 👍🍺🍺
I am not the shape for doing a bit jogging Mr Mazo that's why it maybe looked like I had fallen. I remember seeing what appeared to be slow motion as the Brocken line ran up through the eyes Cheers Iain. 🥃
Unlucky. Bet you weren't expecting to have to run after your line when going fishing 😅 well done for grabbing it. Don't suppose you fancy a day trip up to the Findhorn the first week in September? I've had a rod not be able to make it for the Friday.
Hi again Toby I'm getting a bit old for a canter never mind chasing line down the river. I had a friend phone this morning ...... he was fishing last week , using an old line and it snapped on him . he chased after it caught the line and managed to play it then land it 12lb silver fish. I wasn't that lucky. Can you pass on the details to Russ or get my number from him and I will try fill in. I will have to see if I can get a cat sitter Cheers Iain. 🥃
That looked a decent fish that caused the line malfunction, Ian. Oh well, i don't feel quite so bad after losing what would have been my first salmon from the Clyde this year, earlier today, never mind, there's always tomorrow.
It's all part of life,s rich tapestry Burnie. . we never know what is going to happen when we go fishing ......... sometimes we even catch the odd salmon Cheers Iain. 🥃
I am not as fast as I once was but I am as fast as I will ever be which is not very fast James. I was lucky to catch the line and feel the salmon give one shake and away . if not next time the time after 😉. Cheers Iain. 🥃
If it wasn't for bad luck this year I would have no luck Derek. Joking apart These things happen and it all adds to fishy stories that we can tell over a beer. Cheers Iain. 🥃
Hard luck again, thought you had gone for a swim there, when I seen that big Salmon I was thinking, at last Iain’s got one, never mind you know that they are there, next time 🥃. Give me a call and we’ll have a pint 🍺
I will give you a call next week I am out quite a bit at a few shows this week . Dragged out to things at the fringe went to see Paul Zerdin on Sunday he had won America,s got talent . off out again tonight and Friday Cheers Iain. 🥃

Well Iain that was a surprise did the running line catch on the reel. At least you got your fly line back. Well done on the day

Nice piece of water Iain ,the calamities us fishermen get into but good job you didn't lose your flying 😮
I was lucky Paul I dread to think of a fish being stuck with a line wrapped around it or something submerged in the river
Cheers Iain. 🥃
