- First trip to Upper Redgorton on the river Tay for a number of years . I have caught spring salmon on this beat in January before also a few sea-trout
It was a cool day but Upper Redgorton seems to produce more early fish when it is cold
That was a good day, let's hope you get more like it Iain. You just can't beat the sound of a ripping reel I always say and the first one made it work hard. Well played ofcourse by yourself! 😎👍👍
It was a good day for you by my standards. Thanks for sharing. As I am healing up from surgery, it was great to hear the sound of the river and the sound of your reel.
Hi Frank I hope that you get back on the river soon if you have had surgery it's better to wait until you give it time and then you can spend longer fishing Tight lines.
Cheers Iain. 🥃
@IainSB Yes, i will need some time to heal, I will watch all your videos til then and enjoy the sounds of the river. I would hoist a Guinness to you, but, I can't.....doctor's orders. But know, when I can.....I will.
Unbelievable! Fish on the first cast! Congratulations,!! 👍
I cheated. Mr Moghal. I edited out a few casts I must have had about 10 cats before I hooked the kelt I had great day out and look forward to the next one
Tight lines. Cheers Iain. 🥃
Wow Iain well done on catching I'm only dreaming of it still!! Wow did that kelt have me going I really couldn't believe the fight it out up!! It fought harder than some fresh fish! 🎣🐟 Tight lines for the season ahead! 🐟🐟
I have had some large Kelts that haven't fought as hard Mr mountain man I hope your season is a good one
Tight Lines Cheers Iain.
Great video. Congrats to the fish 👍👊
Thanks again Tommy Back out again soon and hope to get a fresh one Cheers Iain. 🥃
Well done, Iain!!!!! Great start to the year. My home waters are still locked up in ice and won't be ready to fish for at least another month.
I was at the presentation of the first fish from the Tweed on Saturday and there were 11 fish caught. I hope this years is a good one when you get the chance to get out. I will be out again. this week trying hard to get my first for the season....... but it may have to wait for a while as usual 😉 Tight lines.
Cheers Iain. 🥃
Great singing performance by your reel! What a lively fish.
I have had some guys complain about the noise Richard ....... can you think of anything at the river side that shouts fishing than the sound of a reel screaming Tight lines
Cheers Iain. 🥃
Well done Iain, nice to get a fish on!
Nice looking water as well
I have had a fresh fish in January on that beat before and quite a few fish from the beat over a number of years. I see you get around a bit. The Upper Redgorton beat is easy to get on to . I don't know if you have thought about Joining the Perth and District A A Its an affordable Association and has availability on some great beats including this one . Have a look at their web site
tight lines for your season. Cheers Iain. 🥃
@ thanks!
I will definitely look into it, sounds pretty good. 👍
Tight lines!
Another fine video Iain. Tomorrow is my first day's fishing this season, I'm positive there's a 15 pound springer at Dalmarnock with my name on it
I hope that you had fun I see that Upper Kinaird had an 18lb fish that snuck past you tight lines for the rest of the season. Cheers Iain. 🥃
That first kelt fought better than some fresh fish I know of! Good day out for you Ian!
The chance of a fresh fish is slim but that one had me going
Cheers Iain. 🥃
Was so wishing it to be fresh when you hooked it. I was surprised when you said it was too strong for a kelt, think it was wishful thinking as we know some kelts are very powerful. Really enjoyed your film as always Iain and now just looking forward to your first fresh one of the season. Tight lines.
I think it was wishful thinking Colin I had hooked a kelt about 500 yards downstream from the hut (about 8 years ago) that took a couple of hundred yards of line and Mike the Ghillie brought the boat from the other side of the river as he reconned it was a fresh one, it fought like no other, I was thinking about the fresh one that I caught further downstream and hoped ....... but alas as we say maybe next time tight lines. Cheers Iain 🥃
Excellent day out Ian . Three fish hooked and what a lively fish. Hope it's journey back is successful. Water temperature? Again great video to help us get out and get fishing! If we can?😂😢
WE have to get out more I am out again later this week and ever hopeful Just need a bit of luck Cheers Iain 🥃
A great day at the kelts nice to see many heading back to the sea m8
There were a few splashing about John and like this years model not all of them will rush to take a fly. lets hope they make it past the seals Cheers Iain.
Great video Iain good to get rhe rod bent early season. I'm yet to swin a fly so far in 2025. Only two weeks to go until the Beauly opens now.
Its not long to go Toby Tight lines I hope you manage to get out on opening day Cheers Iain 🥃
Nice video Iain, kelts in good enough condition, hopefully they make a great recovery
we hope that once they make it out to sea that they can make it past the seals If they can what size will we manage to catch next year we can only dream.
Cheers Iain. 🥃
Another great video Iain, we’ll done a good catch, I’m at newtyle tomorrow, hoping for a first on the fly 🥃
Newtyle is a beat I haven't fished for a lot of years Daniel I hope to get back and fish there sometime. it has a reputation for catching spring fish so you have to have another go soon tight lines Cheers Iain. Cheers Iain. 🥃
Well done Ian.That first fish was on steroids i think.Tight lines.
I think that it had been resting all winter Stevie and ready for action Cheers Iain. 🥃
Isn't it.amazing that a fish that has fought it's way up river avoiding all pre obstacles , spawned after being in the river for months without feeding still has so much energy in its body.
A lot of guys don't realise that in that time they won't be able to digest anything that they do eat the time they come back into fresh water Andrew. the life cycle of the salmon is something to behold We have to look after them
Cheers Iain 🥃
Just read it's the longest river in Scotland. Young fish returning is a good thing I think. Great video
While on the subject although no as.long as.the Severn or the Thames it carrys a far larger volume of fresh water to the sea any body out there correct if I'm wrong
I think you are correct The river Tay is only measured from where it comes out of Loch Tay but the catchment and massive there are so many large rivers that flow into the system including the Tummel , Bran, Isla and Ericht to name a couple but there are so many more Cheers Iain. 🥃
Sorry Robert I have been reading the comments in reverse order
Cheers again. Iain. 🥃
A Springer is not far away Ian. Keep those fly's in the water and you never know. Tight Lines
It sometimes takes a while to get a springer Norman but I'll enjoy getting out and giving it a try Cheers Iain. 🥃
Well done Ian wish we could fish for salmon down here in Wales.......but it doesn't start until the 1st of April!!!!
I hope that its a good season for you Derek The Tweed opened on Saturday I went to the presentation for the first fish caught on the river that was in the evening held in Fish and Game .
There were 11 fish caught so here is hoping for a good year.
Cheers Iain. 🥃
Been watching your casting Iain on a few of your videos and were you cast, mend or not and how you fish the fly line/fly, going to put it in to practice best i can when i get out on our salmon club river this season. yes definitely a miss spent youth lol, beautiful video as always, faultless casting.
thanks Paul. the systems that we use for fishing don't also for proper mending of the line because its so difficult with running line that's why its important to get the angle of the cast right so the fly moves at the correct speed Cheers Iain. 🥃
@@IainSB Thank you Iain for explaining, learning all the time.
Well done looks like you had a good day
A lot of fun Alex a bit cold but good to get out and work up an appetite and a thirst Cheers Iain 🥃
A nice bit of practice for a proper one, well fished Iain, here's hoping for a fresh one.
The beats are starting to pick away and I hope that this Eason is going to be a good one Cheers Iain.
Excellent Iain! Well done. Can I ask what line setup you had for fishing that deep water please?
I have a selection of game changer from the Rio range and they get down to the level you want quickly and adding on tips give a chance of a fish Cheers Iain 🥃
Well done Iain sure beats sitting at home with your feet up
I have probably spent to much time in the house recently and looking forward to a bit warmer weather so I can get out a bit more Cheers Iain. 🥃
i do enjoy your videos Ian , hope to bump into you one of these days on the river .
Is it mostly sage rods you use?
If I am fishing in cold water and want to get down a bit I use my sage and I do have a switch rod but have collected quite a few other rods that I use frequently including several Bloke rods
Cheers Iain. 🥃
A reel with a decent drag would halve the time you spend fannying about with fish
I find that having my hand on the outer edge is a better drag than the disc reels Sean I know that modern technology is sometimes better I still recon the fish went back safely Cheers Iain
Least you got a bend on the rod to early I think
definitely early always a chance even at this time James... there were 11 caught off the Tweed yesterday (opening day) I hope to get out this coming week its going to get cold so ill rap up warm Cheers Iain. 🥃
for a southener who knows absolutely nothing about salmon fishing, what is a kelt
Last years fish on its way back to sea
lets hope that more of them make it back safely Its always good if we catch them to return them safely. in years gone by they were thrown back as if they were vermin
Its like cars I have never minded last years model
Cheers Iain. 🥃
@@IainSB great scrap the first one Iain keep the vids coming
