- Excerpt from full meeting - The resolution A/ES-11/L.1 was passed with 141 votes yes, 5 no, and 35 abstentions. The resolution needed a two-third majority of yes/no votes to pass. Ninety-six Member States co-sponsored the resolution.
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on Wednesday deploring ‘in the strongest terms the aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine’ in violation of the UN Charter and demanding that Russia ‘immediately cease its use of force’ against eastern European country.
At the emergency session of the General Assembly today (02 Mar), 141 member states voted in favour of the resolution, which required a two-thirds majority to pass, while five voted against and 35 abstained.

I took the liberty of counting the votes by population instead of number of countries:
- IN FAVOR: 3.666 mln (42.9%)
- ABSTAIN: 4.033 mln (51.1%)
- AGAINST: 201 mln (2.5%)
- NO VOTE: 275 mln (3.5%)
What is the meaning of these statistics? I don't know, you can draw your own conclusions. But saying "the whole world" condemns Russia's actions might be a little too simplistic.

I've heard a story that a guy (westerner) travelled from Taiwan to china, and when the officer asked him for passport on the Chinese side, he asked why, since it's Chinese territory, he was let through. I, probably like people in other democratic countries, usually complain about the actions of the government and what politicians say and do (surprisingly and fortunately, I am not arrested for criticizing the government in my country), but this one time I am fully supportive of the government. I feel so happy as a Japanese, a descendant of the people who once started the war and have been regreting that for a long time, that the democratic government of my country, representing us Japanese, has said no to Russia's attempt to break the international order and peace. Even if I don't know how much this resolution means. I hope that the war in Ukraine will end soon and that the dead will be properly mourned. I also hope that Russia will return, not as an invader, but as a reliable partner in maintaining peace in the international community together. From Japan, dear the entire world.

Nobody here in Europe wants Russia to be an enemy, we all want Russia to be a friend to the EU and a peaceful trade partner.

I am ashamed that my beloved country, South Africa, could not bring themselves to clearly and unequivocally state that, in this modern world, an unprovoked invasion of another sovereign nation is deplorable. Yes, Russia is a valued trading partner for us, a friend even, but sometimes it is your true friends that will tell you when you have messed up badly, and we should have done so for Russia. As a proud South African who believes deeply in our constitution, I apologise to the people of Ukraine for the cowardice of our leaders, who have forgotten the values enshrined in our own constitution.

EU is investing heavily in Serbia but our government doesn't care too much about the criticism from EU for the lack of progress. People in Serbia are overwhelmingly pro Russian, even now. Our president just a few hours ago repeated that we will not impose any sanctions on Russia and we will try to stay neutral. We voted for the UN resolution because of Kosovo. The resolution states that teritorial integrity of Ukraine must be respected, and our governments has been saying that for Serbia since Kosovo declared indepenndence.

Hey you, the resolution does not have any effect. It is more seen as a way to know how the whole world sees this war and to justify moraly actions taken by everyone that is supporting Ukraine right now.
If we talk about Morality, this war shouldn't have happened in the First Place itself. When can UN peacekeeping Forces being deployed?? On what terms and conditions?? Under which only once in the history USA had used peace keeping force during 9/11. Over here we see every seconds, situation changing and through military support we can support Ukraine. Sanctions is ok. But by this we can save the people in Ukraine.

UN, US ,UK and EU can't fight against RUSSIA because Russia already warned if you participate there would be nuclear war. Ukraine president is just puppet of NATO AND US. If he would have said Ok to not join NATO Then the war could not have happened but some comedians for their own heroic actions put citizens and country into danger.

Nothing, Russia will destroy major Ukrainian cities , govern eastern Ukraine and probably declare some more regions as independent nations. It's part of the UN's official mechanism for determining it's overall stance on issues of the disruption of peace, but as far as I can tell it's non binding and can't really be backed up, so much as it provides official guidance for member states in dealing with the aggressors. I guess it's a step in the right direction though. Hopefully someone else can shed further light.
