Fantastic summary and quick tutorial on this amazing new tool. Great job! This guy knows how to get in and get out. Everything I needed to know and understand (even though I'm using it for solo piano...which is fairly simple).
if you want to use all character option is the new mastering plug in on a intel based mac, only the ‘clean’ option is available - valve/punce/transparent can only be used on a silicon mac
Some of you may know this already, some may not care/be affected but for those that are this is what I found out quite quickly just by searching for 'Mastering Assistant/LP 10.8/not working on M1 silicon'. I'm using the Rosetta/Intel version of LP which I need to run the ARA version of Celemony/Melodyne (so much friendlier and less cumbersome than the non-ARA version). Mastering Assistant doesn't work with Rosetta (Intel emulation version 🙁. So apparently - TBC - the extra presets on Mastering Assistant work just not with LP in Rosetta mode. I'll see how it goes but I think the workflow benefits of Melodyne ARA will probably outweigh the negatives of not having the extra mastering presets. LP Same old same old . . . .
Wow thanks so much for the video. I am currently on a 2020 Macbook with the Intel chip. In the Mastering Assistant the only character type available is "clean". The other three require Apple Silicone. Make me want to shell out a couple grand to upgrade!!
I like it but..i was a little disappointed to find out that despite having a powerful MacBook pro, if you don't have the silicon chip you will be limited to the clean setting. Punch, transparent and valve are only currently available for the M1 chip equipped Macs. I am hopefully that apple will make those available in an update in the future for all MacBook's and iMacs.
Wow. Currently downloading after seeing this vid. I have so many projects dusting on my mac, because I'm not satisfied with my own mastering. This update will save me a lot of time.
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS BROTHER THANK YOU 1000.... BTW I HAVE A QUESTION ....I HAVE A M1 APPLE SILICON FIRST GENERATION MAXOUT WHY STILL SHOWING ME THAT I REQUIRED APPLE SILICON TU USE THE OTHER SETTING BESIDES CLEAN ?
Thanks for the video. I’m a vidéo editor and wandering id it makes sense using the new mastering tool importing a video project with interviews and music
Hey bro. Ever since you dropped a tutorial on logics adaptive limiter a few years ago I've been using that to master my tracks. But now since logic has this master assistant, would you recommend using just this plugin once I've finished mixing all of my chanel levels? Or still use the adaptive limiter?
You a real one for kicking it with me that long. I’ve been using that same chain as well. I do think mastering assistant can replace that process. But as always. Do a couple test. Apply your usual mastering then try this and see how you like it.
Hey, anyone noticing that this mastering assistant only appears on certain projects? anyone figured out why that might be? literally nothing different between how the projects are set up - but the mastering assistant option is missing or greyed out? thanks
To me mastering is still an art form in itself. This will get your mixes to a good place and way quicker than any manual mastering. It’s almost instant. I would say it’s comparable with the automated online mastering services. But it’s something I’ll need to test further.
One problem I run into during mixing and mastering is if I automate the volume on a track, then decide during mixing I want to keep the shape of the automation, but make everything louder or quieter. Is there a simple way to handle this?
I have a M1 Pro Macbook Pro and an external SSD where I have all my stock sound library. When I load up the Mastering plugin, I only get the "clean" preset and Logic is telling me the other presets require Apple Silicon. But Isn't M1 Pro an Apple Silicon? I am really confused, could someone help me? Any help is appreciated! Great video by the way, love from LA!
No need. Mastering assistant does that for you as it’s the last plugin the in the chain. If you monitor the meters you’ll notice it usually hits around just under 0db
I actually want to do some comparisons on that to see the differences. From my initial testing a I would say it’s similar to the online mastering sites.
You definitely want to leave some headroom for mastering assistant to do a proper job without adding distortion. I always recommend leaving about 6db of headroom when mixing.
That is a good point. I guess I’m used to manually going to the loudest part and mastering from there. In theory I guess it should look for the loudest part and control dynamics from there. I will do some a b tests to see if mastering assistant commits different results
When you master a track you generally will push the limiter to a certain extent and you can easily tell how far you can push the limiter without getting pumping or other artifacts by listening to the chorus. If you are listening to the verse and getting close to pumping then once you hit the chorus you will be pumping. So as long as you’re testing how much loudness you can add, you will want to ignore everything outside of the chorus
I get it. Completely. But this is not something i'll use so much for the purpose of getting my stuff louder. So maybe it would make more sense to just approach it the other way and just analyze the whole song instead. If you only take the loudest section the eq moves could have a bad impact on the verses? @@HOLY_BATH
How is this AI-powered? iZotope, among others, has had analyzer tools and assistants in RX and Ozone for a while now without even mentioning AI. Well they might be doing it now, as everything under the sun is being marketed with "AI powered!" 🙄 Anyway, nice to have this thing available in Logic Pro now as well 🙂
This is all good and well, but they really need to add a better way to select plugins. All the diving into the little menu selectors gets annoying, and the library panel is annoying too. Just want an easier way to browse plugins, tap a button to bring up a full screen selector with a search maybe, and a bug dedicated favourites section. Come on apple.
Good lord, just hire your local mastering engineer. Being able to tell what needs to be adjusted on a track is difficult without a near-neutral listening environment, to say the least. Also, a reading on a phase meter of +1 (or at least as close as this track is) means that it's slightly wider than mono, meaning there is no width. Many mastering engineers can get a track processed within a day or two, so how much time is this really saving? I'm sure this feature will be better in a few years, but as of now, it's hard to justify it's usefulness.
I would say yes and no. If you use hardware you’ll more than likely continue to use hardware to master. But for those times when you just need a quick master with confidence it will sound good. Then this might be for those situations I would say
This ish is powerful and it is a good tool for saving time. 😊 I didn’t notice they had an update until you share it. I can’t wait to see Logic XI
It save so much time. Gets your mixes to a good and ready place almost instantly 💯
Been playing around with it today. I am very impressed by its performance so far.

Glad you enjoyed it! I always try to keep my videos direct and to the point because that is something I’d want myself as well
I’ve tried it on a few mixes and I’m really impressed!
Concise and clear, just what I like. Thanks, much!
You're welcome!

great video my man ! btw this song is actually pretty good
Can you make a video on what you usually do when you mix/master a song?
This is a game changer for me.
This is so fire!!!

Do you know LANDR and Ozone ? For you between Logic Master Assitent vs LANDR vs Ozone, Which one is the best?
Thanks Dude

Does it do a better job than ozone 11? I was thinking of buying ozone until today
Why i cant find that both slots after updating Logic x
I’m glad I chose logic. Just wish I had more time for beats 😩
awesome. thank you

What do you think of the results vs a manual mastering session, and also vs automated mastering services online?

Looking forward to that one! 😊
How do i get a mastering service from you??
its not giving me the option to change the character , it say I need apple silicon .
Great video, thanks! True Peak, LUFS, Correlation does not show/meter anything for me, I wonder why? Thank you!
How do you think this compares to other assistants like ozone or BandLab?
One problem I run into during mixing and mastering is if I automate the volume on a track, then decide during mixing I want to keep the shape of the automation, but make everything louder or quieter. Is there a simple way to handle this?
use the trim plugin, or send the track to a bus
@@TheDougSpot Why didn’t I think of that? Thanks.
Or use the master fader!
Would it be better to use this on my actual session, or bounce my mixed stems and put those in a new project and then run the mastering plugin?
It should still do the same job as the mastering assistant is working right at the end of the stereo buss……but you could do it on a mixed stereo file.
@@Hammerman48 thank you!

U have to update your MacOs
If you are running Rosetta, then that's your problem. You must run logic natively, then you should have access to all the character options.
@@VenAqui415 Thank you so much! I turned off Rosetta and it worked!!! Thank you so much for your help!!!
I don't see how I can "activate" the plugin? In my project there is no mastering to click on.
sry , i See my mistake
idk there was even a update thanks for this video
How does this compare to Ozone?
thank you .. should I add with mastering assistant limiter

Can you remake NSG- Tion Wayne, Pocket Watching?
Toi bad i dont have money to update my old 2012 MacBook Pro but its cool to see some new things
I have logic pro 10.7.4 And it’s not letting me update to 10.8 is there something more expensive version?
Depends if you’re using intel or m series chip, so it could not be available for intel macs . Thats a possibility.
Dope
Adam coming in clutch! Appreciate you posting this. Glad Apple released this. Do you think this would be better than Ozone?
I actually want to do some comparisons on that to see the differences. From my initial testing a I would say it’s similar to the online mastering sites.
What DB level should your input feed into Mastering Assistant be pre-processing?
You definitely want to leave some headroom for mastering assistant to do a proper job without adding distortion. I always recommend leaving about 6db of headroom when mixing.

What's the point of only analyzing the loudest part if it's already doing that when analyzing the whole track as well?

And yes it makes perfect sense.. All the other AI mastering plugins recommend that approach. @@imamusicmogul

please make a remake of tyler's song earfquake

AI is going to eventually all but replace manual mixing and mastering. Probably mastering first.
This is brilliant for a rough mix when you want to see how itll sound mastered. Happy they’re using AI capabilities for music
Agreed! This is probably the start of more AI type of stuff

AI looking to take over everyone’s business 😅
It will never be as good as a real person, but it’s good enough for people who can’t afford a mastering engineer
Ozone is not apple though. Let’s see how it goes. It can only get better
