    As someone who started way after Marcelos hay day, his stuff is still super fresh. Probably the most influential nogi guy at least.

      Well you know a lot of Jiu jitsu is practiced today evolved off of what he has done. A certain Gordon Ryan owes his career to. We all praise danaher, but look at Gordon’s game and Marcelo.

    Hey buddy, 43 year old 4 stripe white belt here.. I've only been training for 16 months and have watched A LOT of UA-cam videos trying to get better with information from multiple content providers. I feel guilty saying I'm just now stumbling onto your channel. This video here is by far my favorite. I'm a lighter weight fighter, 155lbs, and Marcelo Garcia has become my most favorite grappler to copy his game and use it in mine. Obviously I'm nowhere close to his level but I've been using X guard like crazy the past few months of training. This video is what I've been searching for. Someone who breaks down content in a visual context and explains it so well that a greenhorn like myself can understand and use it to my advantage. You're an incredible talent sir, I really appreciate and enjoy your videos . Bravo 🥋💪👍

    If we're all brutally honest, Marcelo is the real goat. I mean, the guy was the smallest, most effective,not on PEDs and the nicest guy in the sport.

      He is the pound for pound goat for sure. I think Marcelo and Gordon’s careers will be seen like Karelin and Saitiev. One was the most dominant wrestler we’ve ever seen and the other the most technical.

    • @reinhardtgallowitz5344
      @reinhardtgallowitz5344 Рік тому +7

      Not taking anything away from Gordon, he earned it. However, Marcelo was also technical. You can't be that small and that precise with your attacks without being a masterful technician. He was a master at scrambles but locked onto people like a viper.

      @jrizzo2761 Рік тому +6

      Yea but Marcelo is a savage in the gi as well...and has produced elite level talent underneath him as well?....yea I legit think there is zero comparison at this point he is THE GOAT. Who knows, maybe once Gordon has an entire career under his belt we can have this debate. But until then, there is just no point in speculating or debating the issue.

      @@aplus1080 the general concensus in the community is that he competed natural. I mean, the guy is tiny. He always had big legs and maintained his physical attributes all his life with little change - PED user's physical attributes fluctuate.

    • @slick222
      @slick222 Рік тому

      P4P is super subjective. Everyone imagines small guys bigger but still the same speed but they never picture big guys faster at the same strength. Neither would happen, of course. Bruno Malfacine and Rafa Mendes are smaller weight class guys that would give Marcelo a run for his money P4P. I think Roger is the best by any measure.

      @MadshGrappling Рік тому +4

      Marcelo didn't invent any of these moves. He popularized them. Marcelo showed a way to play a systematic, efficient game in Nogi grappling. DDS was the evolution of that approach, but it's way more intricate than just a "Marcelo copy + paste with heel hooks".

    How come you put MG above Roger? Roger was never submitted whereas MG was submitted quite a few times. Mostly to heavier opponents, but still.

    • @tommytommy2
      @tommytommy2 Рік тому

      Marcelo is one of my favorite grapplers but Roger was much more dominant than he was. Was rarely in trouble, never submitted, finished most of his opponents while making them look like beginners. Not to mention he was away from jiu jitsu competition for many years, came back and submitted Buchecha like it was nothing.
      At the end of the day, who cares, they're both legends.

      @@tommytommy2For me Marcello is cooler than Roger. I like his personality better, his moves, his techniques, and his style a lot better. Roger was good but I didn't like his basic style. Garcia was creative and innovative. He's small beating bigger opponents. Roger had a size advantage that helped him a lot to win. Physicality is a big advantage. Garcia never enjoyed a physical advantage. So it is harder for him because he never faced smaller opponents. Garcia was better than Roger at north south choke, giotine, and butterfly game. Roger probably had a better closed guard than Garcia. That was his style.
