1st and foremost there is hardly any reliable data on J31 and other stealth chinese fighters especially on RCS. Even in best case scenario it will take 6-7 years for them to have their 1st 5th gen Squadron. Next when it comes to interception there are 2 important factors- detecting and then guiding the missile to target. The Virupaksha aesa radar will be a monster when it comes to detection. 5th generation fighters are no magic bullet to gain air-superiority especially against India which is deploying radars across LOC and LAC. Coming to your other question s500 is basically advanced variant of s400 to intercept ballistic and Anti satellite missiles and Russians claim it can detect modern 5th gen fighters. We already have anti satellite tech and Ballistic missile Shield to counter those threats. Also Project Kush can counter most aerial threat within 350km range. So i guess unless we want another round of Caatsa sanction drama we should avoid.

J31 is not a true 5th Gen fighter, even Chinese PLA also don't procuring it. On the other hand Rafael maybe 4.5 gen fighter but it's a trustworthy combat proven fighter. By using a strong networking we can detect and intercept J31 in a actual combat. Along with that we should consider a few squadron of Eurofighter with 114 Rafael as a stop gap measure. Since Dassult aviation is facing supply chain issue. While they are fixing their issues , we may procure Eurofighter on that turmoil period. Since both Rafael and Eurofighter uses Meteor , MICA missiles. So we can operate easily

And the use of J-31 is not for air to air combat you should remember that. Yes it can be used for air to air combat role but the main use of 5th gen fighters is to destroy enemy air defences and for which they are very capable. Also understand that J-31 has much lesser RCS due to which it definitely is going to be very hard to detect. And China is also working on PL-17 which will have range of more than 400km to destroy AWACS and air to air refuelers which makes it more deadly. Indian Su 30s are good Jets no doubt, but they can't stand against more heavier radars and lower RCS jets which have missiles with more ranges and difficult to detect. So I don't think it is right to say that a Jet which has much more RCS and less composite material in it, which makes it easier to get detect by AWACS is capable to handle Jet which has much powerful avionics and is more difficult to be detected even by an AWACS

Buying s500 for j31 is like buying gun for housefly. Su30 will have far more powerful radar as compared to j31

Super Sukhoi upgrade is yet to kickstart.....don't see it happening for the first batch of 84 aircraft anytime before 2030.....by the time we upgrade remaining aircrafts there will be some other new technology
