- Today I make a vase from a Pear wood log that was cut in 1999. It's almost as old as me.

There is no doubt - you are an absolutely insanely talented young man. I would love to come back in 20 years to see how far you take your craft. I'll be 85 years old by then, so I hope I live long enough! You have an incredible future in front of you.
Bonjour Olivier Gomis. Magnifique!!! Un beau vestige de la tempête de 1999!!! Vous en avez fait une merveilleuse jarre. Bravo. Bonne journée.
Wha a gorgeous piece ... classic French aesthetic.
There's a reason classic shapes exist: People still like them! There's something very satisfying about this sort of shape: It isn't too fussy, but fairly simple; there's variety (smaller top, longer lower section); there's balance (beautiful wood balances a simplicity of design)..and so on!
You chose the design well, and executed it well.
Absolute perfection!🏆
I love the top down views for shaping.
Pear is an interesting wood, isn't it. When turning it looked very even and close grained, but that was an illusion caused by the rotation at speed. To find that it's almost as gnarly as olive in the finished vase, from a log not a burr -- what on earth goes on as it grows?!
Beautiful shape, as always, Olivier; very Greek and classical. And I like the deep lustre from the buffing. Another beautiful and quality piece 🥳🥳🥳
You really know how to let the wood speak for itself. Goegeous one. Thank you for sharing and see you soon.
This is traditional old growth well seasoned wood, some of the most amazing and awesome wood a turner will ever get the privledge to use in their lives! You did it proud, well done, 22 years of patience and waiting and not becoming firewood worked out pretty well I must say!
I think the is older than he looks lol
Beyond gorgeous!!!
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
So elegant! Simplicity at its finest, you let the wood shine. Your work is beautiful

Hi Oliver, another beautiful project, the vase looks fabulous, and the wood held up amazing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That is just Magnificent!!!
The imperfections in the wood make it so much more beautiful than a perfect piece would be. You know just how to make the piece speak.
absolutely priceless...art!

I think you might say that the older the log the more beautiful the vase. Pear is one of my favorite woods, just behind Olive. This vase is gorgeous, job well done!

La tempête de 1999 ? J'ai aussi quelques pièces de pommier et poirier du Domfrontais de la même époque. Il faudra que je les retrouve. Bravo.

Amazing
A very pleasing design!
this looks amazing
Once again a stunning piece of work. I've always admired the pieces you turn as well the creativity you put into them.
Edit- I have to ask, when you're turning a piece such as this one, a solid piece of wood rather then your segmented pieces, do you have a plan in advance or do you let the wood speak to you as you go?
I usually let it take shape naturally yes.
Beautiful!
Nice
Gorgeous work!
Nice work, looks great
Exquisite. I love how you take the flaws in wood and work with them, making it seem like it was expected and planned. Another beautiful piece that is functional as well. What’s next?? 🦋
It looks beautiful vase and an excellent job turning it!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
I’ve only used pear in veneers and small pieces and really like working with it. You did a very nice job with the piece you had, I’m impressed. But I’m impressed with almost all of your work.
