    • @dantem306
      @dantem306 6 років тому +1

      Great video as always, also quick question. If I have 10k, can i afford (as in properly maintain) a 135i or 335i, plus some bolt ons of course.

    • @jake_spence
      @jake_spence  6 років тому +5

      I'd also like to line up against Zach's 335i lol.
      As far as $10k... does that include buying a car? I would imagine you can get a well-sorted N54 car for around $10k, but that doesn't leave a lot let for mods/maintenance.

    • @dantem306
      @dantem306 6 років тому

      Nope, doesn't include the car. I'll most likely hold off and purchase something more affordable and reliable that I can easily buy outright or pay off to build credit.

    Most impressive car was the Z06 in my opinion. It gave the 700hp single turbo BMW a little jump and still won pulling away like a train. Not to mention the Z06 was the ONLY naturally aspirated vehicle in this video. Best naturally aspirated car of all time.

    • @3O2MuStAnG
      @3O2MuStAnG 6 років тому +4

      sasha ghovanlou The Z06 did beat the Mclaren F1 at Tsukuba *despite the fact* the Z06 is *a true road car, weighs more, makes over 100hp less than the F1, costs 50k in good condition instead of MULTIMILLIONS* and can actually make up to 100 MORE horsepower than the Mclaren still naturally aspirated with just a good heads/cam setup. So yes, the Z06 is better than a Mclaren F1 *in my opinion.*

    Very nice bro! I just started a 2010 335I Build. I installed JB4, Burger DCI, Fuel it pump assembly, burger charge pipe with Tiel BOV, burger oil catch can. I replaced all injectors and spark plugs, but all these comments about how unreliable these things are is scaring the crap out of me! lol! Question though, if I install catless downpipes how do I avoid lights and emission fails?

    • @jake_spence
      @jake_spence  5 років тому +1

      Awesome! Sounds like a fun build you got there. As long as you take care of your car and maintain it, you should be okay. I don't have emissions in my area, so I can't really help there. But JB4 does have a code clearing feature if you look it up.

    • @jake_spence
      @jake_spence  6 років тому

      Thank you! I wasn't using NLS. It doesn't help with shift bog, but helps keep boost up. I should've used it but wasn't sure if it'd work with the clutch wire unplugged. Rolling 2 step does work on a manual, but I didn't want to use that either. On the street, I usually brake boost.

    Is weight not as big of a factor in the half mile? Maybe I'm wrong but that Camaro was probably like 4100lbs and if your 135 is around 3100lbs you should have a better power/weight right?

    • @jake_spence
      @jake_spence  6 років тому +1

      I was only on 22psi, so it was probably only 600whp in that heat. I haven't weighed my car with the single turbo, but it was 3400lbs with me in it on the twin turbos and without any exhaust. I also had a passenger for every single run.

      @aaronpederson7910 5 років тому

      They're pretty user friendly when it comes to upgrades. I have had ZERO experience working on cars I still dont know how to change the oil lol and I was able to add dual cone intakes, tuner, chargepipe and intercooler with some hard work. I left downpipes to the mechanics. All for about $1500 and you've very easily got an extra 100-150 extra hp

    • @zachmayock
      @zachmayock 4 роки тому +1

      @@aaronpederson7910 The N54 is an excellent platform for beginners not only due to the modding/power potential, but also because it is so tolerant of abuse. They aren't cheap to maintain by any means, especially given their age now. However, it is ridiculous how many people run these things lean, tune too aggressive for their mods, and beat the crap out of them, yet the internals survive to see years and maybe even decades of additional abuse. Knowledge, proper tuning, supporting mods, etc become very important at 550-600+whp. Nonetheless, it's incredible how much abuse the N54 can take and live to fight another day...or decade.

      @@zachmayock I've since invested in a good set of tools and get my hands dirty whenever something comes up. As long as a lift isn't absolutely necessary I'll do maintenance myself now! Love my n54

    • @zachmayock
      @zachmayock 4 роки тому

      @@aaronpederson7910 Yeah DIY is definitely key to keeping maintenance costs down. I do a lot of the basic stuff, but certain things are better left to a shop than me. My N54 has actually been very reliable and hardly cost much in maintenance/repairs until I recently decided to have a shop knock out an extensive list of preventative maintenance and some upgrades. Did a complete suspension overhaul with TC Kline SA coils, M3 front/rear control arms, M3 bushings, new OEM parts for the rest of the suspension, engine & trans mounts, etc. Also replaced entire cooling system, belt & pulleys, valve cover, oil pan gasket, oil filter housing, walnut blast etc etc. Additionally had MMP stock location inlets and outlets installed.
      Wasn't cheap but it was worth every dime. Prior to this extensive maintenance I was really close to buying an F80 M3, and opted to instead dump the money into my 07 335i. I absolutely made the right decision. Don't get me wrong - the F80 M3 is still a better all around car and looks absolutely gorgeous. However, I couldn't get over the steering feel. IMO, the F80 M3 steering isn't AS bad as some make it out to be but it just didn't feel as exciting as my 335.

    Hey man! I have been searching through your videos to try and figure it out but I can’t. What is the plastic “housing” or idk whatever it is but the plastic part on top of your dash? It almost looked like a screen that pops up but I have never seen of that piece on any other 135i. Just trying to figure out what that is!

    • @jake_spence
      @jake_spence  6 років тому

      It's the pre-LCI iDrive system. It is a screen that pops up where I can monitor and control a lot of stuff with the car.

    Good job man, could you tell me. Are bmw transmissions really bad for racing? Because gear ratios are really high.
    It has
    4.06
    2.4
    1.58
    1.19
    1.00
    0.87
    F 3.08
    While t56 first gear starts on 2.66 and goes lower. It seems launch on your 135i happens in second gear. Is pairing N54 with t56 a crazy idea?

    Great build man. The past couple days I actually decided to pass up on the AP1 S2000 and save up for this one because it has back seats and a convertible. I read N54 is a lot better than N55, but more issues I’m leaning towards the N54 because of the tuning capabilities.
    what issues did you run into when your N54 was stock?
    What was the first mod you did?
    What is the best bang for the buck mod for the 135i?

    • @jake_spence
      @jake_spence  5 років тому

      First issues were leaking oil filter housing gasket and leaky injectors. The best mod you can do is a tune. I prefer JB4.

    • @Chrispena86
      @Chrispena86 5 років тому

      Jake Spence the leaking oil filter gasket is that an easy DIY? I usually try to fix my self before going to a private shop to get it fixed. You first ran with Cobb tune if I’m correct why the switch to JB4. I’ll be satisfied if I can push 525hp with FBO.

    • @jake_spence
      @jake_spence  5 років тому

      Yes, the oil filter gasket is easy DIY. Cheap parts too. I never had Cobb, I've only had JB4. I did 450whp/500wtq on stock turbos FBO.
