It would be nice if African-Americans were included somewhere in there. We've been here forever and actually count for one of the most popular forms of Music, hip-hop, that fuels much of the scenes at California is known for.
Of course you are right! There is a huge population of African Americans both in the Bay Area as well as LA and add to the rich diversity of California 💕
You did a great job of describing Nor Cal and So Cal, without stepping on anyone's toes. I have lived in So Cal all my life and have seen it changed. Mainly the traffic and the cost of living. You and I are probably around the same age. But the one thing that was not mentioned here are the inevitable earthquakes in CA. I have been through some bad ones in So CA and missed the last SF Earthquake by a week. They will happen. Also, the city of L.A. is sooo much larger than SF. Thanks!
so true about the earthquakes. Big ones are pretty scary -- I remember the one in L.A. in the early nineties that collapsed a bunch of freeways. And for sure L.A. is way bigger...there's a whole sprawl that doesn't even include the metropolitan areas!
This was such a great video. You definitely did your research and know what it means to be a Californian. You earned a sub :) ....and greetings from Santa Barbara.
Thanks! 💜 I've not been making too many vids on this channel as most attractions are currently shut down but I have weekly videos on my other channel Epic Eatz which is more food focused. :) Santa Barbara is probably one of my favorite places in California. My college boyfriend was from there so we would visit every weekend. Many, many fond memories of your beautiful city!
Comment #4: Another stereotype is that California gets lots of sunshine and nice weather. Well, the weather depends on where you live in. Here in my hometown of Santa Rosa, it’s like a typical cool winter, warm summer deal. If you live on the coast it’s colder. If you live in the Central Valley it’s very hot in the summer. If you live in a place like Truckee or Mammoth Lakes then it snows all winter. EDIT: Oh yeah, and let’s not forget about those WILDFIRES.
Because your a pho-hypter and a teacher and unfortunately I'm a CS engr who moms is a chef ( and I have 4 sisters who are soooo much better educated than me0 and rooted in natural food-your far to wisdomic ( is that a word or just wise) to look like you dooo -but more like your younger picture. On Dr.OZ and OWN show grew up with Oprah and Joyce Meyers but back to your looks. Montel the talk host came on the Dr. Oz show and he showed by taking coconut oil it will get rid of all the lines, again I have 4 sisters sooo I spread the love. Then, there is aloe vera juice because of tons of amino acids that will trigger you pituitary gland and make you 20 years younger- and yes teach!! I do these thing remember my mom has been into the lifestyle thing for eons. But, your sooo beautiful inside and uplifting your outside should catch up to your insides. In addition, I remember Taseem Bhatia who frequents the Dr. Oz show talke about her mentor who has a electronic device that will make you look 51 years younger than you are, but if you wan to know more I will tell you more God knows I told my 4 sisters!!! But, your such a beautiful soul and teacher it just no right for not to be as beautiful on the outside as your in. Face it Methuselah lived 969 years my fasting onec a week, or eating a meal a weak which turn on his Pituitary gland to make HGH constantly getting rid of his old cells and replacing them with new one, but teach drinking Aloe vera juice daily like I have been for more than 5 years does the same thing-but you got to be up on your fiber or flax to balance things out. Again thank you for being a great teacher!!!!!!
Comment #3: You know what pisses me off? Most people generally miss out a really nice city in the central part of NorCal. It’s called Redding. I’ve never been there, but the Sundial Bridge looks majestic.
I was born and raised in Redding! It's a wonderful area if you like the outdoors. And the Sundial Bridge is so nice to take bike rides across to the trails!
Thank you!!!! I get kinda irked when such southern areas consider themselves from northern cali. Like, you know how huge the state is, right? Kinda makes the whole video irrelevant shpuld call it mid-cal.
@@jessicadabruzzo9819 There's reason's for this. At one time they were thinking of splitting the state into two states and calling it Northern California and Southern California. With majority of the land being NorCal. But, SoCal depends on NorCal for water so that never happened. Also, the major population area's of NorCal is in the Bay Area. It really doesn't have much to do with Geographic Boundaries.
I just drove thru Humboldt about two months ago and agree it isn't anything like the Bay Area. But mid-Cal to me is more SLO area. Perhaps north-north California??
@@ZeeneInRealLife Definitely. Slo is referred to as central coast, if broken into two states, NorCal. SLO is definitely more like the Bay Area (Culture, weather). The Original state lines were going to be Tehachapi Mountains. People that are born in California hear it referred to that way their whole life.
What about the Great California Avocado Toast craze? That is definitely a newer stereotype here. Tons of people eat avocado toast here,, but not everyone 🤣🥑🍞👍
Thanks for the Santa Barbara shoutout! Lol. I'm in Santa Maria now (SO much cheaper) but as far as mentions go, Santa Barbara always seems to get forgotten, as you said- most ppl outside Cali think of the whole state as LA🤩. Other people think of it as half LA, half the Bay 😆 But my beloved Central Coast is where it's at! (Not a call to move here though, people. We have too many people as it is 🤣😉) great video! Thanks! 😁♥️
You didn’t mention people who live inland. I was born in Southern California but inland of LA. I have a theory we get forgotten. But I love the conclusion at the end. Thanks for posting about my home state.
Comment #1: I’ve lived in Northern California my entire life. (Born in San Francisco, living in Santa Rosa.) I have to say, it’s much different around here than it is in SoCal. Only some of those stereotypes are true. When I go to the beach here in Bodega Bay, everyone just wears sweaters.
😂😂😂 Another one of those true stereotypes! It does seem like citrus is a popular garden plant in California. Mine are pretty mature - the family before ours was REALLY into them as we have all types of lemons, limes, and oranges all around the yard.
@@ZeeneInRealLife The lemons behind you were so cool to see! I have a cherry tree and an apple tree in my back yard lol (Toronto). Do you pick them? Seem like a lot to consume.

Quite accurate, Zeene, from a contemporary perspective. Yet, there are generations over the span of California history that were only touched-on by you. For one of the reasons Orange County has been historically Conservative is due to the fact that the post-World War II growth was mostly due to Midwestern/Iowan immigration. (Though Orange County has changed quite a bit racially and ethnically, in the past twenty to thirty years.) The overlord of the liberal, progressive supermajority in Sacramento and the metropolitan NorCal and SoCal areas are also responsible for ruining this State in many ways. (The stark difference between the rich and the working class in this State, with little to no middle class, high costs of living/taxes just to get by, the homeless, and other assorted progressive nonsense that Pelosi, Newsom, Feinstein, de Leon, and other Californian politicians endorse.) No doubt, California has changed drastically in some areas since I was a kid growing-up in this State, some changes not for the better.
Te amo, last year I visited San Francisco and I felt in love with that city. I saw a lot of hipsters but also I stay in a zen temple and meditate every morning, I ate burritos at The Farolito in the Mission and I was part of the SFJazz Fest. SF is a city full of life. The only really sad thing is the homeless people. Big problem.
I was in SF last July. People dont hold doors for you, even if they see you approaching the door. And no Thank you nor your welcome. Had fun in the city. Would do it again.
I would definitely say Northern Californians are quite reserved (vs. our Southern California counterparts) which is very different from that stereotype that we're super friendly :)
That everyone who lives within a few miles or 20 of the beach must go all of the time. I can say , I live fifteen minutes from Venice Beach and ten from Marina Del Rey and the last time I went to Venice Beach was over 20 years ago. I'd rather go to a museum or do a tour of LA music center than go to the beach.
I love this video!! Totally spot on!! Especially the parts about SoCal not really giving too much of a fuck about politics & San Diego being the most balanced city/residents. I'm from San Diego & most ppl tell us that we're a conservative city, but i don't really think so because we have the Hillcrest neighborhood - which gay, lesbian & LGBT. Thank you so much for pointing that out & letting ppl know that my city is the most balanced city in Cali w/ some of the friendliest ppl ever. Love my city.
People still get stereotypical about the weather. They think it's always hot everywhere--over 80. I went to college in San Jose and learned very quickly that no matter how hot it was in the summer in SJ, it might behoove you to actually bring a jacket if you were going up to the city, San Francisco.
