- Conde Nast Traveler magazine has a UA-cam series called Culturally Speaking in which 50 representatives answer fun questions about their home States. In this video, I take a crack at answering questions about California.

Your videos are the best. As a Californian you have once again made me proud to be a native. And thank you for including northern and Southern California. Traditionally there been a rivalry which is not always nice. Both are great. Please keep doing these videos, they’re great.

Love the ride down 1 to the Hearst Castle area and central coast...might be the best in the country.

Pt. Reyes and north up 1 might be just as good with a completely different landscape. Very tranquil...lots of variety in California.
Lol, even with the hit from covid it's still expensive! Hearst is over the top but for that decade I'm sure it was the height of fashion. I'd love to do Pt. Reyes and up north and had a couple of people request a video on that. I was planning something this summer before covid but might still be an opportunity. Thanks for the tip and reminder!
The dessert invented in California is Fruit Cocktail. Even Wikipedia agrees with this. One of the earliest brands to offer it in canned form was the S&W cannery located in Modesto via the Tri -Valley Growers produce co-op.
Oh interesting!! I didn't even know Fruit Cocktail was invented in California. And that would totally make sense that it would come from S&W.
Yay!.... From a visitor standpoint, the "California" dish association is often the "California" sushi roll ( somewhat like a burrito ) , "California" Pizza (Kitchen) and putting avocado on everything. I enjoy finding ice cream and pizza places in the Bay Area.
Totally forgot about the California roll! Yes, that is a good one!

Condé Nest should've asked you to be their episodes, your videos are great. The state's tourism board should hire you or at sponsor your videos. The next time I go up to San Francisco, I will definitely try my best to do some of the activities you suggest like taking Caltrain 🚄 to San Jose or Palo Alto, I'd love to walk around Stanford's campus, likewise UC Berkeley, I'm not sure about riding over to Sausalito on the GGB 🌉 by 🚲 but the going to Tiburon , San Leandro and Sausalito by ferry sounds like fun, and after watching your video on the bay area's transit systems and a few more on Bart and since the Clipper card is basically the BA's cousin to LA's Tap card, I'm confident o could transverse some of the bay area , from the peninsula to the east bay since I have family up on Contra Costa county. And thanks for mentioning the museums both in Nor Cal and down here in So Cal, we have so much to offer than just the Hollywood walk of fame and Star line tours in LA ( not that I'm knocking them by any means) but we have the Getty , the museums in Exposition Park, the African American and Natural History Museums and California Sci Center all of which are across the street from USC, the Fowler and Hammer ( formerly known as the Armand Hammer museum, now owned by UCLA) Museums in Westwood, The Broad, MOCA and so many others. There're the Missions up and down the State, there are two in LAs backyard, Mission San Gabriel and San Fernando, back in 1994 on his first trip to the US , representing his father who was King of Spain at the time, the present Spanish monarch, King Felipe actually visited Mission San Fernando and reportedly told the Monsignor showing him around that the Mission was named for his ancestor , Fernando (Ferdinand) II I believe.

T. Mitchell Hi, I live a few hours from Frisco and I think I can answer that. I went there a few days ago. Everyone is wearing masks, but the streets are packed and every business is basically open
Reopening is in "stage 2" (low risk businesses) right now; outdoor dining (in some areas the streets have been shut down to accommodate this), some indoor retail and curbside retail for all others, no/minimal contact services, some outdoor parks but with decreased capacity, outdoor museums & historical sites, and outdoor exercise classes. Stage 2 has been in effect for only a week or two so there will likely be a review period first before deciding whether to go to Stage 3 (high risk/touch businesses). Hope that helps!
