It's a question many of us have heard growing up in Church. Many have grown up believing that good works and trying to be a good person is sufficient for bridging the gap of separation we have from God, due to sin. My dad grew up with those same beliefs and thoughts until the gospel was presented to him clearly when he was a teenager.
In this video, he shares his journey from being a young sinner to being gloriously transformed by the saving power of Jesus Christ.
I am so encouraged by my parents and their love for the Lord - That they were able to help our family grow to see what the Christian life can be and how to know Jesus as our Personal Savior!

Well, if that was not the best thing on You Tube, I don't know what is! What a blessing you and your family are, Gil! I am 71. I was saved at the age of 8. My parents were divorced and never went to church, but my Grandma loved the Lord and when I was at her house I went with her to church and Bible School. She was even my teacher most of the time. When I was home I went to the Baptist church and that is where I accepted Christ. My stepdad eventually was saved and my mother got right with the Lord. I married my high school sweetheart who was in my youth group and although we only had three children, we now have 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren! Not all of them are serving the Lord, but it is my constant prayer that God will work in their hearts. Your family is so encouraging. Erin you are a shining example of the love of Christ, as well as your husband. God bless you each one for the light you bring to You Tube. I watch every one of your siblings who are on.
I agree the Bates family is a huge blessing. I was saved at the age of 10 and I'm 37 now and I am so thankful for Erin and her entire family.

I’m 77 and grew up going to church, Sunday school, thinking being good was enough , knowing the golden rule BUT not until I was 26 did God speak to me when I was at home alone and I listened and the first step lead to more understanding until I was sitting at my table and thinking of God and began to weep and I realized something happen to me and later realized it was my new birth, God directed me to church, bought the new living Bible and directed me to a mentor which I had never heard of having before but 50 years later I still have her and we live in different provinces and she will be 99 this month. I have grown as a Believer over the years and stayed faithful but have gone through many rocky roads. But there is nothing like when the Bible comes alive and unless you are born again you do not have that a personal touch from God through the Holy Spirit , you can memorize scripture, go to church , live a fairly good life but only being born again in Christ makes the difference. 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I also like to thank all the good American Christian ministries that has helped me grow through all the years and is why I pray and think of America today as well as my own country Canada in how they have turned away from God and His laws. The Lord is coming soon. 🙏🙏

Thank you for sharing! Thankful for the Bates family! ❤ I was not raised in church but a close friend returned to the Lord and invited me to church. I was saved at 24 and all of my immediate family soon gave their life to the Lord. Many years later after many, many prayers my daddy was saved at the age of 70! Never give up, never stop praying for the lost. ❤❤❤

I keep praying for my dad. He is 95 1/2. I know God is keeping him alive for him to accept Jesus Christ as his savior. My mom was saved, I believe, but she died at 66.

Wonderful testimony! Were it not for grace. My parents went to a similar church, even became Sunday School teachers, and never heard the Gospel until they were in their 40s. What a difference in our lives when we realized it’s not about religion but a personal relationship with Jesus Christ!❤

I love Mr. Bates testimony! My 11 year old daughter and I met him and your mom at the boutique. They were so down to earth and kind to us. Invited us to come to their church when were back in TN. They are the real deal! Everyone that we have met in your family is so kind and down to earth! Hope to meet you and your sweet family! I met your dad and your brother Jeb when I drove through Knoxville on my way to Virginia. The one thing that stands out about your dad was that he was so intent that I knew the Gospel, and that I knew Jesus personally. He even gave me a tract and a Bible. I passed on both to someone who did not know the Lord, as I do know the Lord. But he comes to mind very often when I meet new people because of how intent he was to make sure I knew Jesus. I shared that story with my small group with hopes that we would share the Gospel just as your dad inspired us. Thank you Gil (and Erin) for sharing this. We appreciate you.

There are so many people who were raised in churches like Gil was, where they don't even preach the Gospels! How is that possible? Good works and being a good person does not get you into His Kingdom. Thank you, Gil, for sharing your testimony ❤

In order to go to heaven when you die- You must be deeply repentant for your sins and be “born again” by receiving the blood bought sacrifice of Jesus Christ… He died in your place! Be blessed ~

You can see that Erin of all the children have held on to every single word that her parents spoke ..... you can just see her and how she steadfastly process and hangs on to her dads stories and words. I think it is amazing how all the children turned out so good! Some did things a little differently which I think is so beautiful and important and others followed exactly after their parents . Erin is that one. She is a kind and beautiful soul and deserves all the happiness ❤

Thank you for this vlog. I now go to a Baptist church that is a Bible believing church and have learned so much. Grew up in church, but was more on following church rules. I also tune in to Gils church. Love the old fashion hymns that we all know. What a blessing this whole family is to so many. Been prayin for papa Bill too.

Pastor Gill Bates is definitely a humble man who has looked inside his own personal life and asked our Heavenly Father to cleanse him of his sinful ways. Many don’t realize that we are ALL born as sinners and We must be born again to enter the gaits of heaven. Knowing and believing upon John 3:16(God so Loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall NOT parish, but have everlasting life.) So many Churches are like that, They don’t preach The Message of the Cross because they are afraid of stepping on some toes and they don’t understand the Moving and operation of the Holy Spirit, God still heals today and the Gifts are still in operation if you open up your Heart ❤️ and ask the Lord to show you the Truth and Give you everything he has for you. Those are Religious Spirits and Legalism in those churches. Jesus is coming back soon and for his church without spot or wrinkle. God Bless you and your Family ❤❤🕊️✝️

I have a very similar testimony Gil…faithfully attending church but never heard the presentation of the gospel. Came to know the Lord at a youth camp @ age 12 but still did not grow in my faith. While in Nursing school was blessed with a Born again roommate and started attending her church with her…where I finally heard the gospel preached. Prayed the sinners prayer and was RE baptized! I think you so much for sharing your testimony.

What a beautiful testimony, Gil. I have a similar story. I thought I was a Christian for a long time, but kept living a life of sin with no remorse. I’m so glad that God changed my heart, my life, and generations to come that will honor and glorify Him ❤

Mr Gil Bates, thank you so much for sharing your testimony. I was raised in a born again christian home, But I have many children that all how the Lord needs to draw them close to him in a new way. I was almost in tears today. Listen thinking, my family members have accepted the Lord as their savior, but their walk in their talk is not showing Christ flowing out of them. This was one of the best things on UA-cam today that I saw thank you, Jesus for the Bates family for their heart for you, Lord and their bold testimony.
