@@zackgarza9465 now that I’ve had a few request I will try to pull together enough video that will explain how I did it. Give me a little time and I’ll see what I can do. Thanks!!
I videoed parts of the build to make a quick “how to” video but wanted to actually show that it works in real time before publishing. I haven’t been back to the farm since we installed but may be able to go in the next week or so. Let me know if you need help and I can walk you through some specifics. It’s pretty easy.
Great point! We won’t use the thermal but instead the IR scope. You can see it like daylight through IR. We just used the thermal to test because it was the only .30 cal I had with me that day. If I really needed to use thermal I would tape a handwarmer to the middle of the target. Thanks for watching!
You're sons getting older...lol. Anyway just some food for thought you can set up the trap door you have set up easily with an rf controlled solenoid. With a remote cam you can see when to trigger the trap from far enough away you don't spook them (how far depends on how much is spent but at least 1/4 mile not line of sight pretty cheaply).
There you are! I wondered where you’ve been. Glad you checked in. I though about the RF route too because that’s what cell setups use to trigger as well I think? I may try that one for fun if I build another trap or need to convert this one. Probably a pretty simple conversion to what I currently have. You doing ok? Yes, Preston is growing up and I couldn’t be more proud of him. We’ve made a lot of good memories around the farm! Take care brother and keep in touch.
@@TheHandyHunter just bouncing all over with work, the usual. I would probably use a controller and solenoid for an RC controlled plane, everything is already designed and set up, and a 3 or 4 channel controller would allow that number of traps. With the force generated you might have to use a trigger mechanism and spring load the catch (think trigger on a figure 4 trap). Not as much fun however more efficient to cut the population, keep track on the cam and triggered when the full sounder is inside. It also gives a better chance to catch the smart ones that takeoff if they catch wind or sound of anyone in the area. A few hours of watching other hogs going in and out....
Can you tell us how you made the door? Maybe a step by step DIY thing?
I filmed some of it but really not a complete video. I’ll have to see what I can pull together. Thanks for the suggestion!
Yes I’m interested on how you built it too

Did you do a build video?

I agree, a video of the build would be cool you should put it out.
Really impressed with your son. He's been raised right. Good job Dad!
Thank you! We have a great time together in the great outdoors! Thanks for watching brother!
If after dark and hogs in trap.... how to get the target heated so thermal can be used?

@@TheHandyHunter Always enjoy your post! Hand warmer would work great. Good thinking!!
looks like the son is starting to grow a beard at 2:22 , hey dad , getting old
Yes indeed, getting old fast! He use to be a little boy and now he’s a grown up man!
Smaller mesh along the bottom. The piglets that escape through those big spaces aren't likely to ever be trapped again later.
What kind of trailer is that? I’m looking for a decent size trailer for my golf cart.
Its a 4x6 that we picked up at Tractor Supply. One of the best pieces of equipment we own!
@@TheHandyHunter Thank you so much!
If you didn’t want to shoot it that be a good set up to put a cellular drop and camera on and activate it from home
You could definitely trigger it by selonoid and RF signal if you wanted.
I use either a trip wire or root stick set up mostly and cell camera to let me know when they are caught.
Man I sure would like to see how the gate is built
I recorded some of the build but not all. I may try to pull enough together to make a video. It works great!
Yeah man. That would be nice!!!

Dude.....put an electric motor o that gate to raise it..... :)
Right?!? Or maybe a boat winch?? That sucker is heavy for sure!
Awesome door!
Thank you! Hope you are doing well!
Video on how u built the hog trap gate
Man, I’m hoping to get around to this soon! I keep having people ask me and I just haven’t had time due to work. Maybe soon! Stay tuned!
Update Video ?
Haven’t been back to the farm in a while. Hope to post something very soon!
