    Im zanichi-korean, third generation, one of the events I distinctly remember is back when I was doing professional sumo I had a police officer question me about a theft in the area and asked if I was a foreigner because I dont look physically Japanese...
    Keep in mind I was literally wearing kimono, geta sandals and had a kasa umbrella.

    • @Alinor24
      @Alinor24 24 дні тому +16

      There aren't many foreign sumos are there? And you probably had the hairstyle only sumos have as well right? I doubt a foreigner could quickly fake that to avoid police.

      @@Alinor24 Yeah I wore the chonmage back in my day, and you'd actually be surprised. A decent majority of the top sumo rankings are foreigners, lots of Mongolians and Russians. Hawaiians have also been historically dominant in the sport as well.

    Police Duties Execution Act (警察官職務執行法), specifically Article 2(4), which pertains to the identification of police officers:
    Basically when a police officer is requested by the person in question to provide identification, the officer must explain the reason for their actions and present their identification card (警察手帳).
    Here's the Japanese version:
    第四条
    警察官は、第一項又は第二項の規定による立入に際して、その場所の管理者又はこれに準ずる者から要求された場合には、その理由を告げ、且つ、その身分を示す証票を呈示しなければならない。

    In China its mostly the opposite. There's sometimes checkpoints in the subway stations, where they're checking people's IDs. The moment I pull out my passport they just wave me through.
    Stuff like this happens a lot. Because dealing with a foreigner requires them to fill out a form or file a report that they've never done before or the system just can't accommodate, so they just don't bother. There's not enough foreigners left in China anyway, so they don't care.

    Got stopped by 3 police officers right in the center of Akihabara station not too long ago. Asked to search my bag, said no problem, they're basically empty except trash and a phone charger. Chatted for a couple minutes, the whole exchange was kinda odd. Kinda came off like they were just bored. Felt a little weird being surrounded with everyone passing by and staring but it really wasnt a big deal. Went on my way, caught my train and headed to Edogawa.
