My Colorectal Cancer Symptoms

  • Today I’m covering the symptoms that I experienced leading up to my Colorectal Cancer diagnosis. I’ll share with you the timeline of when those symptoms popped up and what was tried to attempt to fix them.
If you’re experiencing any kind of changes in your body (and it doesn’t have to be potentially cancer-related) here is the list of important things to keep track of for talking with your doctor in order to help figure out what is going on:
    1) when did the symptoms start
    2) is there anything you do that makes it better or worse
    3) what is the quality of the symptom or pain (such as is it dull or sharp pain, is there blood in the toilet or in your stool)
    4) if there is pain, does it start in one place then radiate to another
    5) how severe is the pain
    6) how long the symptoms last
Here is the link to the site I mentioned in the video on the rise of Colorectal Cancer in young adults: www.cancer.org...

My original symptoms were a little blood in my stool, but it was bright red. Then I had horrible stomach aches and vomiting at the same time. When I’m really knew something was horribly wrong, my stool was getting thinner. This all happened very fast. It was only a couple of months before I could not go to the bathroom at all.
The tumor was 7cm and taking up 90 to 95% of my rectum.

I'm a 32 year old male, back in 2018 I went to Cabo for a week and a week or 2 after I came home I began passing gas with bloody mucus as well. It smelled just like the restrooms there at the beach, I'm assuming I had just an infection or virus from the water. I have been battling severe GERD as long as I can remember. Did an endoscopy which came back clear, did a stool sample FIT test last year also which came back negative. I'm now waiting for my 2nd fit test and hoping for the best. All I can say is going Health was never even in the back of my mind until that episode of mucus and now I realized how important it is to keep up on that even at my age. @@sgundam66 It came back them not finding anything besides hemmeroids. The specialist mailed me a letter recently saying they have been trying to get ahold of me to have me come in for another one and to do an extended cleanse but I've been feeling fine more or less than I've opted out of adding to my seemingly endless debt. I definitely had every last symptom of coleractal cancer but they seemed to think it was most likely internal hemmeroids they hadn't detected initially when I went to the ER. I havent had blood in stool or whatnot since over a month ago so I'm just tending to my diet. Try to ensure you're eating sufficient amount of fiber and eating a steady diet. The one thing I did before my symptoms flared was change from a meat eater diet to a nearly vegan diet. Within 3 days, I was shitting pools of blood and felt like I was dying for weeks. I reverted back to eating meat and I've been fine. I reverted to just hardly eating meat but not completely discarding it from my diet and AGAIN wolah, had a bad case of [external & internal] hemmeroids and some blood for a week. That was hell. My advice is try to get a colonoscopy scheduled just to get it set, and then focus on a high fiber diet starting now and if your symptoms clear up, cancel the appointment maybe, and if they don't, go have one done. They will want to do other tests before they even do it so scheduling sooner than later is best. My buddys mom has coleractal cancer and by the time they found it it had spread to one side of her liver. She's been battling for a year now and it isnt looking like its going to be a good outcome. So by all means take it serious. But try that high fiber diet idea. And don't change your diet dramatically. Be mindful of what you're eating and drinking. Mid 20s our bodies begin the process of being moody.

I found out July 5th of this year that I had over 50 pre-cancers colon polyps the largest ones being 37mm. I begged my doctor for 2 years to see a GI doctor because I was bleeding. I'm 32 she said I was way too young to even need a colonoscopy. They ordered three different times stool samples. The pictures that I showed her from the toilet she thought it was something that I made up food coloring spaghetti sauce. As soon as I got into the GI doctor and explain to her what was going on and showed her the pictures she immediately had me going for a colonoscopy. I’m glad you’ve been talking with your doctor about these changes and had a FIT test done. If after a month or two of drinking more water and increasing your fiber you are still having issues definitely let your doctor know. A FIT test isn’t as accurate as a colonoscopy (hence why you need to retake every year, as opposed to a colonoscopy every 10 years), and it won’t detect if you have a different digestive issue that isn’t cancer.

I don't drink alcohol or use recreational drugs. It is so scary bleeding this much and my symptoms are much like yours. I stopped taking my vitamins thinking that was it. I saw my primary care doctor and he dismissed this in March as hemorrhoids it was not constant bleeding at the time. Now it is constant and I am wearing my wife's maxi pad. I know gross. I am being screened for pancreatic and liver cancer as well and I am just praying. Thanks again and I hope you are doing well.

I did have a lot of gas (and still do 😬). The next few days are going to be really hard to get through...just try your hardest to stay in the present because that’s really all you have control over right now. Enjoy the weekend with your little ones as much as you possibly can. You can try to limit eating things that are known for causing lots of gas, like cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage) and beans, and you can also try to limit the amount of wheat that you’re eating because that can irritate some people’s bowels. Hang in there!

Water is changing color into light red, so it’s still fresh, have noticed a little mucous in there too. I’m worried. @SurvivorJelena  3 роки тому +3

I believe it has something to do with what we’re eating, but I don’t know what exactly it is. There are plenty of healthy, young people being diagnosed so it can’t fully be blamed on obesity or a certain type of “bad” food.

@@SurvivorJelena It's a fascinating puzzle isn't it? In terms of information, the doctors don't have a clue as to what is causing the spike in cases. We are essentially in a spot where we were with lung cancer and smoking in the 50's - not enough information to make a reasonable conclusion. Then the Doll reports came out in force against the tobacco industry in the early 60's and made it blatantly clear what was going on.
I genuinely wonder what the catch-all for colon cancer is. Most of us eat at least 3 meals a day of any volume, and if you consume solid or liquid food that has some carcinogenic properties, then you accelerate the potential for mutations in the cells of the colon. That adds up quickly over time, akin to a cigarette reducing your life span by "7-10 minutes" per the CDC. If it were up to me, I would zone in on the regions with the highest rates of colon cancer among youth and begin studies there.

About 5 months ago I had severe pain in my right abdomen so I went to the hospital and the doctors did a blood test and also and x ray. I was told that my small intestine looks very full and may be a little block so that's what's causing the pain. They gave me laxative syrup and pain medication and sent me home. The pain continued for about 4 days the pain meds were doing nothing. My stool was completely fine before but immediately after I recovered I became constipated and I thought that it was the amount of pills that I had taken,I once again started drinking the laxative and every time I went to the bathroom it felt like it wasn't all coming out like I would try to go to the bathroom and nothing would come out and I knew it wasn't constipation because it was a different feeling and I had been taking the laxative for days at that point. After that I started noticing that my stool was very small and thin and I always feel like it's not all coming out and it's hard to pass but its NOT constipation. I am so afraid I have colon cancer but when I went to doctor initially she told me that it had nothing to do with my colon because the pain was on the left side and the colon is on the right.

On top another massively worrying symptom is I'm sleeping 20 odd hours a day now and don't feel like I've slept at all, I've had night sweats and great thirst. I have had that problem of being stress and anxious for more than a year that I have not been monitoring my toilet habits..
I have definately had more cases of diarhea that last year and stool was often mushy.. Then suddenly like 15 days ago I started getting a slight pain in my abdomen.. Sometimes central ,sometimes lower left side.. I have a ton of gas that makes me feel like i need to go to the toilet but I am not ready yet.. That feeling has increased the last three days. THe gas makes me bloated.. I avoid lactos and to much fat food.
I have had slight issue with night peeing so I went to the doctor for that and just have my blood checked for PSA values and such.. But now I am much more worried about the stomac/colon problem. 15 days with symptoms that will no go away and no history of allergies or problems digesting any kind of food. The blood work will also check for hemoglobin values which was ok in early august 2023.
    I am really nervous..
One thing we need to adress. Is that we start talking more about gut health, toilet habits, and how the stool looks.
Some say that they discovered stage 4 colon cancer with no symptoms.. My guess is that the person in question had a change in frequency of bowel movement and change in stoll consistency.

I am deathly afraid of the colonoscopy I was recommended to get. Ive had digestive symptoms for years now (My dad also has bad diarrea and hemmroids that bleed) My digestive symptoms are mainly diarrea flare up, can go 9 times a day. When that happens my rectum hurts and bright red blood will drip and be on the TP. I also fart all the time and have crazy intentinal noises which i assume is gas especially after i eat. I also get light headed and feel sick alot, i have generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks often. Also was just diagnosed with acid relux. Im nervous because if i somehow get through the test, with my symptoms i probly have stage 5 and am dying already. Plus with the test prep i will be in so much pain from the prep and sick from my anxiety. I dont how I can get through this colonoscopy.

    • @SurvivorJelena
      @SurvivorJelena  4 роки тому

Hi Joseph. I understand your fear about the colonoscopy, many people feel the same. But having answers as to what is causing your digestive problems may actually help your anxiety because then you'll know what it causing your issues and you can work towards alleviating them. Stage 4 is the highest colorectal cancer stage, but even if that is what you end up with, doctors can help treat your symptoms and try to make you more comfortable. At best, whatever is causing your troubles can be fixed with treatment. I actually have a colonoscopy next week and will make a video about the experience, so watch for that one on October 23. Maybe that will help you see that even though it isn't super fun, you can get through it, and take away some of the mystery of it.

Did you have a positive calpro reading and experience a lot of brain fog prior to your diagnose? I am sure I only have some form of IBD but important to rule out anything worse. I don't recall if you said how old you are, but how did you get your doctors to listen to you enough to go forward with testing? I'm 27 with chronic gastrointestinal issues, including colorectal cancer symptoms, of which I have a strong family history on my mother's side. Unfortunately, I was recently laid-off and lost my health insurance benefits, but once I can afford to get back on, I hope to speak with a doctor about everything I've been experiencing, though I'm afraid to be turned away or have my concerns minimized because of my age. I've seen so many people share stories like that, where if a doctor had just listened to them, perhaps they could've received treatment sooner. So, is there anything in particular you said to get them on-board, or was your team super supportive from the get-go? On a similar note, did your insurance cover your testing and procedures? (Sorry if that's too personal.) I know a lot of companies won't if you are under 50, especially with colon-related things.

Lie if you have to. Tell them early cancer runs in your family or that you may have been exposed to toxic/ radiation/ chemicals etc.
And if they dismiss your request for tests tell them “ I want it documented that you refused on such and such date”.

I was 34 when I was diagnosed. I had a good relationship with my doctor’s office prior to my symptoms starting so when I said something was wrong they trusted me and had a plan of what to do to figure out what was going on. Insurance did pay for some of the procedures but I still had out of pocket costs.
