+Jay Mazella Dawkins dismantled him with ease and I don't consider him on the same level as Christopher. in fact, even Starkey, who frequently makes me cringe, wrecked him on this show. this guy Hasan is a clown and I have no idea of why he continues to be invited to debates like this in which he is out of his depth
im not usually in favour of starkey but he is spot on this time .. also religion is just a thought exercise ... its a belief ... if i suddenly decide to believe that im entitled to steal as part of a new religion im inventing ...well you see where the logic leads and splits and suddenly theres 2 of me ... one will steal only from strangers the other will steal only from people who believe as i do ... belief must be supported by fact or we are all over the place ... i believe ( yup i did that )
Starkey is wrong. Free speech by definition should have NO limits. Free speech is about allowing ALL viewpoints, not just the ones we can bare to tolerate. I don't care how vile a viewpoint is or is perceived to be; it should be permitted. If there is to be any line (and there already is) it should be on the actions taken based on that speech, not the speech itself.
AustralianNeoCon1 Who will determine what should be restricted..?? And, who will determine the 'narrowness' of these restrictions?? IMO, as an American who reveres his right to free speech and sees it as being essential to any free and open democracy, the only speech I would want to see "restricted" is that which serves no purpose other than to maliciously cause harm to others (such as needlessly yelling "fire" in a crowded theater, or libel and slander). "Blasphemy is a victimless crime." ― Richard Dawkins
Maurice Npa An example of a reasonable limit on free speech: falsely yelling 'Fire!' in a crowded theater. Otherwise I totally agree! Like he said, the limiting should be VERY narrow! Definitely NOT restricting insulting pedophile muhammed (dirt & maggots be upon him) or agreeing with allah when he claims to be the worst filthy liar ever, & instructs muslims to emulate him..
AustralianNeoCon1 That's why I said he was wrong. He's for "some" restrictions, but even he can't say where the line is. I'm saying there IS no line. Words should be free and unrestricted. Actions are where you can set a clear red line.
YirmeyahuWeeps I don't agree with that one either. People love to bring up that example, but it's really no different from any other speech. All speech can cause harm if the wrong people hear it. That's not the reason to ban it. That said, I'm not saying speech can't be restricted in a private setting. I believe that Public (ie government) should have different standards than Private (businesses, etc). You can always go to another movie theater if you don't like the rules, you can't where government is concerned. Businesses should be able to discriminate and restrict all they want, but they should understand that free citizenry will also be able to take their feet elsewhere and no clients means no business.
WestcountryDude Hey hey. I’m in Exeter; was gonna comment anyway the. Noticed your name. Nice. But yeah I thought the same. Diane abbot always says the same thing. I suppose they have a point. I mean, if you asked Hitler in 1943 if he believed the same stuff he did in 1933 he’d probably say no... :/ :/ :/ South West Warriors! Devon Recovery!! Woooh Sorry, just shouting words now. X
"The idea that because you feel strongly about something, means that nobody must challenge you, is an absurdity". Thank you for this, that's just so absolutely true.
So why can’t you challenge or event discuss anything related to Israel … specially in Australia 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡… i mean if you are so strong in your believes I dare you 🫣🫣🫣🫣… poor you
reecewindsor10 No, his counter argument to the quote was to give an example of why his selective quotation is fishy at best, selective quotation in that he takes a small piece out of a large argument to change the original meaning
Mehdi Hassan "...blaming sex crimes on Pakistani (Muslim) culture". Rotherham told us otherwise, and it was Hassan's brand of wilful dissimulation which allowed it to happen.
AntPDC the government there and police were complicit in those crimes against children. Plz remember this. Blaming Muslims is wrong. Blame specific perpetrators (who were Pakistanis or what have you) And ask for complete accountability and punish all those involved. Its very dishonest to use these crimes to hate on Muslims or Islam.
"My name is Mehdi, not Ahmed." Who cares? You're argument still sucks and isn't that what he is arguing, because you seem to care more about your feelings than you do your arguments.
"On a man who blamed the London riots on black culture, blames sex crimes on Pakistani culture and now blames terrorism on Islam" I'm confused as to what in that is supposed to be incorrect?
david marshall exactly what i thought. Gang member shocked when a gang member is stabbed for example and then blames it on being poor or all that bullshit. Take the blame for your own shitty ways and stop passing the blame. Most people who love in shit towns are proud it's a tough area and soft people trying to help the area are the ones sadly being punished. You give them free education and that's to blame as well. Right ok
Ruthieal Well obviously since the Majority of the UK is white but how does it stack up when you work it out as the percentage of sex crime's within that ethnic group in the UK?
I'm not going to deny that western society today is more sexually corrupt than ever before though I mean I just heard two sex songs in a row in subway with little kids around and no one really blinks an eye because it's so damn normal where as 40 years ago a massive shit storm would be given about anything sexually explicit in any song. Sadly though compare us to a number of other societies and we come out like freaking angel's.
This is what happenes when someone who can not objectively look at someone else argument and starts name calling, pathetic tbh. And this is why we need free speech after all, if u dismiss someone by calling them communist, nazi etc. Then whats the point of having this argument in the first place.
+thatdevilguy Sam Harris is so incredibly intelligent and articulate in what he says. He needs to speak on every major news channel without being interrupted every second by some apologist idiot like Ben Affleck or this man Mehdi.
+buzzin1975 Are you going to back up your little rant with a citable example of a superior alternative to western liberalism? Or are low brow racial slurs going to be the peak of your intellectual contribution to the world today
+buzzin1975 ? Amputating the hands of thieves? Reconcile jizya and dhimmitude to the concept of equality before the law? You can't get there from here.
Paul V. Montefusco The first time he was interrupted was when he was talking about something that wasn't answering the question...it's natural for a host to interrupt someone in order to protect the discussion from seeping into chaos. And the second time he was interrupted, in an undoubtedly rude fashion, was after he himself interrupted the woman by saying that the muslim man was lying. I'm not saying that he is not talking truthful here but victimising him as the sigle voice of thrut that is oppressed by the mainstream majority is just blatantly wrong.
Tim Kumpost The Islamic Empire invented many and most of the things you see today, even the guy in this video was aware of that, youve probably been doing your research on some Anti Islam website
Er the point is that Islam WAS more enlightened four centuries ago.Now it has nothing to contribute but hate division and a desire to inflict and conquer.
I'm a Catholic and if someone says something against or making fun of my religion I don't bat an eye. Why? Because although I might not agree with what someone is saying, I believe in freedom of speech and therefore must respect it.
Jesus Christ even says that you (Christians) will be hated because of me...just another reason as to why Jesus is Lord...The king James Bible is 💯 the word of God. Islam a load of satanic rubbish
Consider this: South Park's The Book of Mormon is one of the most savage, irreverent attacks on a religion they've done. And how did the mormon's respond? By embracing it and promoting it as a way to recruit more people into their religion....
Just as lot of football hooligans or Anti-LGBT should be. How many Imams are there? Now compare that with the amount of Neo-Nazis who live in our country. Arresting all these poeple for what gain? They all want violence and extremism in one way or another.
blonde Squirrel I consider myself pretty much liberal in everything except Islam,it is the absolute enemy of everything we stand for in the West, we want nothing more now than to pander to and tip toe around Muslims, its fuckin sickening, and now you see leftists,SJWs and feminists embracing Islam, the irony is beyond sickening, I hope I'm in my grave before Shari law is introduced across Europe.
Ajay Reddy Medhi is an arrogant little arsehole who, I have no doubt will lie to save himself or to get a reaction, however to pretend that every person of Muslim faith is also a lying arsehole, is a step too far for me. I’m not ignorant.
Abkhazia Taqqiya is in the Quaran Sura 3:28 and is perfectly acceptable in Sunni Islam. Perhaps you should protest Islamic child brides and throwing acid in child brides faces for being rude or disobedient?
I can never take anything that the Muslim dude says seriously ever again ever since his debate with Richard Dawkins when he said he believes that Muhammad flew to heaven on a winged horse.
The difference hugh is that jesus and mary can be believed somewhat of a rare occurance but its possible. Mohammed on a horse is not see.. history has taught us that there are cases when people have been presumed dead, but in actual fact were not.. (maybe this happened to jesus) in then days there would be no way to tell. secondly, it has been proven that a woman can fall pregnant by just being sat somewhere where someone has (you know whated)... so it is possibly that she could have been a virgin, although i dont believe it. IT is possible have you ever see a horse with wings other than in a film PS>. im not religious, but i would likely believe jesus comming back to life and mary being a virgin than being on a winged horse... sorry
Spectruvian that’s ur problem then. I believe in prophet Mohammed’s journey to Al Quds and then his ascension to heaven on a winged horse just like I believe that Mary was a virgin and she gave birth to Jesus and nothing u or anyone else says can change that... u can mock me all u like.... it won’t change facts
Religion should be critizised EVERY day of the week, EVERY week of the month , and ALL year around, especially Islam (for the time being) Christianity was critizised a lot from around the 1680' and up until today , and that is one reason why the West has done so well on human rights and fredom !
+terskip you don't understand those countries if you think they were atheist, they did not abolish god they made the state into god. The best example of it is North Korea right now where when western doctors cure patients of eye diseases they thank a photo of Kim Jong un on their wall.
Both of those countries have a smaller percentage of their population in their prisons then the free united states, It's also the most religious of the three. Who is the most free? Who is the feeble minded here?
Tripserpentine So you have one negative statistic about the USA and you jumped to the conclusion that US is worse than them? Let's see other statistics shall we? US is far far ahead than Russia and China in GDP, living standards and HDI. Both China and Russia are more corrupted than the US and less free. China is the world leader of death sentences with 1k+ people being killed every year and freedom of speech (hell most of the freedoms) is unheard of (Russia too albeit to a lesser degree). As to US being most religious of the three, I don't know, there is a large surge of Christians in Russia while China remains an oppressive atheist regime to this day.
Starkey's statement hit the nail squarely on the head! "The idea that because you feel strongly about something means that no one must challenge you is ABSURDITY"! I don't care if it's religion, race or politics NO OPINION must be considered "special" and thus immune to the rigors of critical thinking and the exercise of free speech to express it!
Fred Higgenbottom in that case he is doing exactly that to others... getting angry and criticizing what they are saying coz they don’t agree with his inane views... I don’t see any intelligent point in his argument
@@zahrahusain5965 ...inane views? You seem confused. Starkey was challenged and made his views clear, as is his right. "The idea that because you feel strongly about something means that no one must challenge you is ABSURDITY"! Did you understand that? Is it not an intelligent point, and plain speaking. Challenge it by all means, but with intelligence.
AeroRatt I mean to say that his hatred against Islam and generalization are very clear. He is doing exactly what he claims is absurd. He is against Islam and someone Muslim is challenging him and he can’t seem to take it... so I understand perfectly and am seeing it from all sides whereas u are only looking at it from ur side
''I have to say I agree with EVERYTHING that Mhedi said, and I think he said it Beautifully and Brilliantly '' Tory MP Anna Soubry . Notice of how quick Tory MP Anna Soubry is to defend Mhedi Hassan. Even after Dr David Starkey's powerful analysis-Soubry STILL refuses to accept the plain facts regarding Islam, and decides to takes the cowardly route instead by defending Hassan- and attacking Starkey. Even though the latter's comments are quite correct . This is the cowardly sell out 'elite' who run this country . Hardly any wonder that Islam has such a strong foothold here in the UK . Shameful .
I love the pettiness of that Muslim guy who pointed out his offense at the guy getting his name wrong. The audience clapped and evrryone blew off the whole debate. I call bullshit. I don't want to be lectured to by people who refuse to look at what is going on in the real world. we got people denying the things in front of their faces.
I'm practicing Muslim and I totally agree with the bit where David talks about the Muslims not being able to speak there mind and freedom of speech bit. Spot on.
"I can't rebut you, but I'll dismiss you because you said my name wrong! Your current argument is invalid because of something you said previously about another subject!" Wow, a smart Muslim pulling out all the intellectual stops... Either everything is okay to say, or nothing is. Censorship is terrible.
All religions are backwards and primitive. The only difference being: in the western hemisphere we don't allow them to grow too bold and take control anymore, which is why we are free of religious radicalism today. But at some point in time "radicalism" did very much exist in the west too...
***** i know what you are trying to say but i fail to see the difference between the backwards 10th to 12th century Dark ages Europe and what we see in the middle east today. They are simply two sides of the same coin. I would say: ignorance is ignorance no matter what causes it. and that's not just the case with religions. Any ideology can be misused and abused by its respective followers. Just take one look at the radical Marxists, Conservatives, progressives or even radical feminists, They are simply blind to any other way of thinking. Radicalism makes subservient blind slaves of men & women. I've seen and experienced that first hand. I know; how extreme devotion to an ideology can pollute people's minds....
***** You keep talking about the Byzantine Empire, but that's NOT the Europe I'm talking about. Yes the Byzantine Empire was one of the last remaining vestiges of a great civilization in Europe. and you keep talking about the late Byzantine Empire which is NOT exactly the most enlighten period of the Eastern Roman history either!!! 12 century universities were based on a lost knowledge that was being slowly gathered by a lot of those eastern scholars for near 7 centuries in the east specifically in places like "PERSIA" not the tiny kingdom of Jerusalem. 7 centuries earlier both eastern Roman and Persian scholars would gather in Gundishapur and exchange knowledge. Even with the fall of the Sassanians to the Arabs, the Persian and former eastern roman scholars of Turkish-Persian boarders remained very much active. Researching and accumulating knowledge . However the truth remains that: between 10th & 12th century, The more western parts of Europe were indeed covered in a veil of darkness. and you can thank RADICAL christian believes for that. Yes, The Byzantines were far more open minded than the rest of Europe thanks to their heritage. but that was eastern Europe NOT the west.
*****" During the Edwardian and the other early phases of the hundred years war, we know A LOT about the archers and troop numbers of the Crecy campaigns because it was extremely well recorded." Yes military , historical and even sometimes political records were produced in the WEST but NOT so much (astrology, science, algebra, biology, chemistry and mathematics) those kind of works were produced in the EAST and by eastern scholars who were fighting tooth and nail to preserve the ancient knowledge of Greek and Persian records & added to them by doing actual scientific works. They did all that against the constant ignorant tied of Mongol, Tatar and Turkish invaders. The western parts of Europe caught up with all that only when the humanistic ideals of Renascence were growing around the beginning of 15th century. Otherwise I wouldn't contribute too many scientific achievements to the pre15th century western Europe This was the time, when the European physicians were bleeding people and covering wounds with human feces while at the same time alchemists like Razi were producing industrial alcohol for medical use. and Avicenna was making actual medicine and preforming "actual" surgeries years ahead of his time. They call it "Islamic Golden Age" but i don't think it had anything to do with Islam. These were old and already advanced civilizations that Islam conquered. Those same scholars existed in the EAST for centuries before the birth of Islam! if anything Islam slowed them down. I wouldn't give Islam any credit for any of those achievements. Gradually and slowly. Islam did to the EAST, what Christianity did to Europe. Right after the dark veil of Christianity was being lifted from Europe. Dark veil of Islam took over the EASTERN civilizations and it still continues to this day ....
"Freedom of thought Is the foundation of what we are.It is why in the last 4 or 5 hundred years a tiny speck of earth called Europe has transformed the world".and " the idea that you feel strongly about something means that nobody must challenge you is an absurdity""we must draw the lines of freedom of speech as narrowly as possible" these words are absolutely stunning
The only advancement Europe has made in the 1900s is starting 2 world wars and a mass genocide of over 6 million jews In the 21st century European countries fund and support mass persecution of native Arab's in the false sate of Israel . Yes false even orthodox jews believe the idea of a Jewish sate goes against their holy book the Torah
I'm a muslim. I'm not proud or ashamed to be a muslim. I'm just a muslim. Free speech should be an absolute right and the first defence against creepng totalitarianism. People should be free to follow their own choice of religion without prejudice. Unfortunately the state intervenes to actively promote religious intolerance. Foe example, In 2008, a Christian couple refused to allow a gay couple to stay at their bed and breakfast business on religious grounds. They were prosecuted under the Sexual Orientation Regulations 2007. The couple were strict in who they allowed into their B&B. For example, only married couples could share a bed. The couple had to pay damages to the couple who they refused accommodation. The couple were vilified in the media, dropped from Visit England website, lost business as a result and were driven to the near bankruptcy because of it. They received death threats, cars were vandalised and a cat was nailed to their fence. I'm not gay, I'm heterosexual, which is a pity, because knowing some of the horrific women I have known, I think life would have been more pleasant being gay. Gays should be free to go and stay wherever they will. Their freedoms should be respected. Similarly people with religious views should be able bar anyone on any grounds from their business premises. It's called freedom. What the above case shows is that certain sectors of society who have the power to influence the government can criminalise freedom of thought, freedom of action and any freedom they wish to diminish.
Did a quick image search for 'Charlie Hebdo' and 'Jesus'. There are literally dozens of their front pages depicting and mocking Jesus and Biblical characters going back decades. And of course, Biblical parodies occur all the time. But of course Mehdi already knows this.
yes, you probably do. But we are losing our right to speech here in the UK. It also seems to have happened to Canada, and all because there is a great deception of fear; That Islam must be respected, and if it cannot be respected its threats must be appeased. God help us.
+shivfloyd You are absolutely right. There never was a 'Golden age of Islam'. The Golden age of Arabia, when the Arabs carried the mantle of civilization on their shoulders, came to an end with the spread of Islam.
and the secondn Commandment says to have NO graven images but in Christendom it's disobeyed all the time. At least Muslims go by not having images and idols.
What makes the impression particularly striking is the historical diligence, giving credit where it is due. Back in the day the Arabs were more tolerant, more advanced in the medical arts, and more respectful of "pagan" accomplishments. Book burnings have left us with only Arabic translations of some monumental works of Western philosophy. Whether all that was the case because of Islam, in spite of Islam, or regardless of Islam is up for debate, of course. Other than that, the argument is silly. A group is being allegedly mocked more than others. Should people find contrived ways to mock everything equally? Is the point that there needs to be censorship in order to prevent hurt feelings? Nonsense.
+Vestin The question is can you mock the Jews without being called Anti-semitic? can you deny the Holocaust if you like to in the name of free speech without deing called a stinkin Nazi or something? can you mock Judaisem without being objected or again called Anti-semitic? this is that arrgument that Mehdi did put up Free-speech for all or for Noone.
+yassine russi People can call you whatever the hell they want. That's part of the deal. It's meta-applicable: you can mock, and people can mock you for mocking, and others can mock them, etc. Being free to say things doesn't mean that people need to agree with what you have to say.
+yassine russi That is mostly about graphic image and disgusting pictures, that has little to do with freedom of speech. I could freely show a woman's bloody head chop off picture right in your child's face, but that would be wrong wouldn't it? If anyone actually stops Holocaust History to be spread on history channel or any channel for that fact, it should be allowed.
yassine russi You should, no one said that you shouldn't and that is the point. However, graphic image is not tolerated because people do not like violent images and specially wants to prevent kids to watch it by accident. The killing in middle east is a problem and the fact that few cares about it is concerning, but this has nothing to do with my point. As I'm talking about image share on TV, and most likely the act in Middle East is not projected on TV.
"The idea that you feel strongly about something means that nobody can challenge you, is an absurdity." David Starkey Keep on Rockin' in the Free World!
Starkey is fantastically smart and always makes tremendous insights. It just a shame he not given more time because I could see he was only just warming up there
Mehdi falls back on the old "at least get my name right" chestnut. You can tell when someone knows they're losing the argument when they resort to that.
There were Christians who were offended and some people who picketed movie theatres, and it was even banned in some places, but as far as I know no one was beheaded or shot dead over it.
Pentecostal Missionary Yes. The elite will kill us all. No matter wat we beleive in or look like. The rich wanna get richer while the poor wither n die
Christianity in the west was the same untill the Protestant Reformation and the Enlightenment and Scientific age in the 15th 16th 17th 18th century's the Enlightenment. Most of the worlds religions from Christianity to Judaism Himdusim Sikh Jains Shintos etc all adopted and modernized themselves. Islam hasn't. Due to the fact the Koran is considered the final word of God thus can't be reformed.
Hassan gets upset about his name as if that's important. Of course it isn't but he skillfully takes the dopey audience's attention away from his shady past.
As far as I know the USA is the only country in the world that actualy has free speech inshrined in law, the constitution in that case. But even then there are libel laws and the like that give consequence to speaking falsehoods that would harm another citizen. Free speach is there to protect citizens from government tyranny, not to allow slander and incite to violence. There are are always limits and it is not what you decide is accepable or not but the princibles of what is acceptable that matter. Criticism of any culture or ideaology should be a base princible of a free society, the line should be drawn at inciting violence towards any culture or ideaology. Ironicly in the west where most countries have pretentions to free speech, Islamic extremists can freely call for the destruction of the west in mosques on western soil while western citizens are arrested for critisizing Islam, go figure. It seems most western governments care less about their own citizens than the offence they might cause to those who show open hatred towards them.
I did google it and found this. The term "offense principle" is also used[1] to expand the range of free speech limitations to prohibit forms of expression where they are considered offensive to society, special interest groups or individuals. For example, freedom of speech is limited in many jurisdictions to widely differing degrees by religious legal systems, religious offense or incitement to ethnic or racial hatred laws. Limitations put on the freedom of speech, especialy ones termed "offence principle" mean there is no real freedom at all, if you can't offend special interest groups then they will rule you. As Voltaire said, if you want to find out who rules you, just find out who you're not allowed to critisize. But you did prove me wrong the basic concept is in their constitution, just a watered down concept.
As a Muslim, I’m afraid he’s saying the truth. Muslims had glorious scientists, astronomers, poets, writers, philosophers, all while being more accepting than we are now. The rise of extremism is shameful.
Because you are extremist, and you think muslims are extremists , you are stupid despicable, muslims are being killed all over the world and when they try to defend themselves they become terrorists and extremists Shame on you idiot
As a Muslim, I 100% with Starkey on this clip about history of Islam. Muslims were glorious and now we're clowns. Not sure about the thing with Mehdi as I have not seen full video.
Amadeus190890 as a member of the seed of isaac I will tell you that Islamic society will soon rebel against its fundamentalists. I see a day coming soon that the house of Isaac and the house of Ishmael will put away their caustic sibling rivalry and will be at peace.
Martin Clayton most of humanity is incapable of seeing or even believing that paradigm shifts are possible. These are the people who during the 15th century could not accept that the coming renaissance will change the world. These are the people who as the industrial age dawned could not believe that the world would soon change. You are one of these people.
if you don't understand what the name means then I suggest you do some research before you spout your ignorance. And by the way, I think any person who believes that paradigm shifts can never happen under any circumstance is not just ignorant, but also proven wrong by history.
Post to it in any of the leftie spreadsheets, and they ban you. So much for counter argument or freedom of speech. Listen, you can have Diversity or freedom of speech, you cannot have both. And btw Medhi, the London riots were actuated by 'black culture.' That's the truth, and you know it. As for the grooming scandal in the North of Britain , that too was down to Pakistani Muslim men.Even your own Guardian luvvies have admitted to that much. So fuck you. LIAR.
regular Joe yes but what does that have to do with Islam... why put the whole religion down as backward just coz of the actions of a few criminals?? It’s like saying all Americans are killers because every once in a while some random shooter goes to a school and kills kids
@@zahrahusain5965 good point. The problem with Islam is that, the children in madrasas are brain washed into thinking they are superior over everybody else, they are taught to misbehave with women if they are not modestly covered up, cause "they are asking for it" With this sort of upbringing wat can one expect for the Pakistani population?? Poverty and Islam go hand in hand, only ignorent/ uneducated ppl follow Islam .
Yes but again that has nothing to do with Islam and its teachings. I know what u mean by these madrasas. The stupid preachers who teach the kids come from villages and are not educated and unfortunately they teach the kids narrow-minded views, not just about women but about many other things. But that is the problem in villages and they spread hate against other religions which is wrong and not at all Islamic. They beat those kids with sticks for pronouncing a word wrong when reading the Quran which is again very wrong. Many of us are against this mentality. Don’t judge Islam by the action of a few backward people because they don’t know the true essence of Islam. I listen to the lectures of Sayed Moustafa Al Qazwini who is a very open minded and gentle person and he shows people how Islam should be and how Muslims should behave
@@zahrahusain5965 glad you accepted the faults. Untill the 70's nobody had a problem with Islam nor Muslims with others. But when Saudi became rich they sponsored madrasas with wahhabism idology throughout the world. Now the entire generation of Muslims up to 70% have gone through these madrasas and have a extreme view point on life. Even the rich are forced to put there kids into evening madrasas to please their religious circles, by doing so even a kid who is undergoing modern education falls prey to shitty idology. By this you are having 70% of the largest religions population of ppl who are have a extreme idology, this has become a dangerous situation for the rest of the world. Now coming to Islam itself, it is based on Koran and hadids, and in it's books you have extreme views on homosexuals, women modestly, crime, leaving Islam, Jews, other minorities, musical instruments, even Shia wants to kill Sunni or Sufi or other mislim minorities, etc ...Which these mullas teach. So you just can't blame the mullas , cause they have also learnt it from the book itself, so the root cause of all evil is the Koran, unfortunately Islam=Koran and Koran= EVIL.
regular Joe I accept that there are bad people who are influencing others into a shitty ideology but the majority of Muslims are against wahhabis for ur information. We all think they are extreme. The percentage u gave (70%) though is bullshit. Totally untrue. U exaggerated that percentage to just highlight ur point. Shia do not want to kill sunnis not vice versus. I live in a very moderate society where we all live side by side with no issues. Yes a small percentage have bias towards one another but it doesn’t affect daily life in general. Quran is NOT evil nor does it teach evil. Please do not put these wrong ideas in ur own head or others and for God’s sake stop watching Fox News for ur information source
There are several examples of Charlie Hebdo cartoons mocking Christianity, if the Muslim would take time to look, just Google Image. So no, Hebdo did not single out Islam. Isn't killing cartoonists several trillion times worse than drawing satirical cartoons?
+Happy Hamster Don't forget Family guy, repeatedly mocking anything that moves or even things that don't. Somehow, Medhi miss this, selective argument?
+Happy Hamster Other religions, politicians and suchlike are mocked regularly by cartoonists, satirists &c.. Why is Islam the only one which reacts with murderous violence?
bingola45 Off hand, I'd say Muslims due to selective breeding amongst themselves, have bred the most emotionally reactive, and emotionally stunted human beings ever 'produced'. Violence seems to be their middle name. It's like a 3 year old who regularly throws tantrums, but sadly their bodies at least grow to adult hood, their emotional development, no so much. You may enjoy videos too of Pat Condell and his take on Islam, a very bright guy and often hilarious with his take downs of the 'religion of peace'.
Wow, David Starkey recites a detestable quote from Mehdi Ahmed and his comeback is to point out how he got his name the wrong way round, and the fact that it doesn't matter because it was said 10 years ago.
not sure if David Starkey is on youtube nor really cares what I think, but my compliments Sir, what an amazing, eloquent, thoughtful and objective assessment of the situation and the pointing out the root of the problem.
"... something I said a decade ago." (Kind of admitting he said it, alrightie then. "And Also, I'm really not going to take lessons on a man who blamed the london riots on black culture, and blamed sex crimes on Pakistani culture, and now blames terrorism on islam." Why not, he sounds absolutely spot on. And Anna Sourbry. What a joke of a person she turned out to be. Should have stayed on tv talk shows, but oh, had to get out there and 'represent'. Try living under islamic laws Anna, then come back and tell us how enlightened you are.
+Ethan Reuben (Reubinator999) -- Wow, that says it all. No more reason to wonder about this guy, it's very clear where he stands and what his ambitions are. Thanks for sharing this link, I hope it remains accessible.
Mehdi is either lying or he never even looked at the Danish cartoons. Quick refresher for anyone who's unfamiliar with the twelve "Muhammad" cartoons published in right-wing Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten... The newspaper commissioned illustrators to draw "the face of Muhammad" after writer Kåre Bluitgen reported that he was unable to find anyone willing to illustrate his children's book about the life of the prophet. Two of the cartoons don't feature Muhammad at all, one of them is an unintelligible scribble, a couple of them label the whole project a "PR stunt" and mock the newspaper for pandering to reactionary bigots, some are neutral images depicting a man in traditional Arab clothes and a couple of them are caricatures of Kåre Bluitgen. Given that Muhammad was a sex addict, a thief, a murderer and a warlord, the only offensive thing about the drawings is how tame they are.

David Dimbleby telling a famous historian he invited on his program to 'save the history lesson for later'. What a pathetic excuse for a man he is.
@Alban He was invited on the show to give a historical perspective non? So of course he would see things through a historical lens.

Yes, but the christian world developed, dispite their religion, where the musliimworld did not. They got stuck.

Nothing ever was written in Arabic that counts; most of the knowledge they had came from Ancient Greece & Rome along with Egypt and Babylon.
David Stakey may not be the only person on the panel, but he is the only one that matters.
Ian Williams Yep.
im not usually in favour of starkey but he is spot on this time .. also religion is just a thought exercise ... its a belief ... if i suddenly decide to believe that im entitled to steal as part of a new religion im inventing ...well you see where the logic leads and splits and suddenly theres 2 of me ... one will steal only from strangers the other will steal only from people who believe as i do ... belief must be supported by fact or we are all over the place ... i believe ( yup i did that )
and the only one with common sense
Totally agree!
Starkey is the only person telling the truth and not lying.
Maurice Npa He does say it should be restricted, but very narrowly.
Businesses should be able to discriminate and restrict all they want, but they should understand that free citizenry will also be able to take their feet elsewhere and no clients means no business.

reecewindsor10 No, his counter argument to the quote was to give an example of why his selective quotation is fishy at best, selective quotation in that he takes a small piece out of a large argument to change the original meaning
I like to think David did it on purpose to wind him up and prove that Ahmed is just a non - intellectual idiot.
Mehdi not Ahmed
Mehdi Hassan "...blaming sex crimes on Pakistani (Muslim) culture". Rotherham told us otherwise, and it was Hassan's brand of wilful dissimulation which allowed it to happen.
Pakistani culture is to blame not Islam and that’s coming from a British Pakistani.
AntPDC the government there and police were complicit in those crimes against children. Plz remember this. Blaming Muslims is wrong. Blame specific perpetrators (who were Pakistanis or what have you) And ask for complete accountability and punish all those involved. Its very dishonest to use these crimes to hate on Muslims or Islam.

david marshall exactly what i thought. Gang member shocked when a gang member is stabbed for example and then blames it on being poor or all that bullshit. Most people who love in shit towns are proud it's a tough area and soft people trying to help the area are the ones sadly being punished. You give them free education and that's to blame as well.

Then whats the point of having this argument in the first place.

see.. history has taught us that there are cases when people have been presumed dead, but in actual fact were not.. (maybe this happened to jesus) in then days there would be no way to tell.
secondly, it has been proven that a woman can fall pregnant by just being sat somewhere where someone has (you know whated)... so it is possibly that she could have been a virgin, although i dont believe it. IT is possible
have you ever see a horse with wings other than in a film
PS>. im not religious, but i would likely believe jesus comming back to life and mary being a virgin than being on a winged horse... sorry

Religion should be critizised EVERY day of the week, EVERY week of the month , and ALL year around, especially Islam (for the time being) Christianity was critizised a lot from around the 1680' and up until today , and that is one reason why the West has done so well on human rights and fredom !

But at some point in time "radicalism" did very much exist in the west too...

*****" During the Edwardian and the other early phases of the hundred years war, we know A LOT about the archers and troop numbers of the Crecy campaigns because it was extremely well recorded."
Yes military , historical and even sometimes political records were produced in the WEST but NOT so much (astrology, science, algebra, biology, chemistry and mathematics) those kind of works were produced in the EAST and by eastern scholars who were fighting tooth and nail to preserve the ancient knowledge of Greek and Persian records & added to them by doing actual scientific works. They did all that against the constant ignorant tied of Mongol, Tatar and Turkish invaders.
The western parts of Europe caught up with all that only when the humanistic ideals of Renascence were growing around the beginning of 15th century.
Otherwise I wouldn't contribute too many scientific achievements to the pre15th century western Europe
This was the time, when the European physicians were bleeding people and covering wounds with human feces while at the same time alchemists like Razi were producing industrial alcohol for medical use. and Avicenna was making actual medicine and preforming "actual" surgeries years ahead of his time.

Starkey, my man! No one could have put this in a better perspective
If it makes you feel better gay men can be pretty crummy to each other.
women don't go through anything compared to what men do

Whoa, whoa, people aren't conscious about mocking Islam? The reverse is true! People are fine bashing Christianity as it's the norm.
But the angel Gabriel told me that you can't make pictures of the prophet. End of argument. Angels trump petty human reason. (I'm being sarcastic.)

Avaxa Sirvina David Starkey?
Hes a very intelligent man
What makes the impression particularly striking is the historical diligence, giving credit where it is due.
+Vestin Deny the Holocaust on TV or in public and you'll be facing Jail and suddnly freedom of speech is gone.
+yassine russi That is mostly about graphic image and disgusting pictures, that has little to do with freedom of speech. I could freely show a woman's bloody head chop off picture right in your child's face, but that would be wrong wouldn't it? If anyone actually stops Holocaust History to be spread on history channel or any channel for that fact, it should be allowed.
yassine russi
You should, no one said that you shouldn't and that is the point.
People don't like the truth about how vile Islam can be.
+Johnny PK How so?

Mehdi falls back on the old "at least get my name right" chestnut. You can tell when someone knows they're losing the argument when they resort to that.
Did anyone riot over the Monty Python movie, "The Life of Brian?'
Malcolm Muggeridge got a bit apoplectic!
There were Christians who were offended and some people who picketed movie theatres, and it was even banned in some places, but as far as I know no one was beheaded or shot dead over it.
+PacificRimNZ as usual, only peaceful protests. no killings.
No one killed the Monty Python crew for it, that's for sure.
Starkey deserves the whole hour. He's the only one offering an argument that sticks to the question.
All we ever needed to know about Islam, we learned on 9/11/01.
Times Square
Which was too fake to be true
Times Square 9/11 was a CIA job u dimwitt
ReallyLongName OnUA-camIThink so the via wanted to destroy its own ppl?
Pentecostal Missionary
Yes. The elite will kill us all. No matter wat we beleive in or look like. The rich wanna get richer while the poor wither n die
ReallyLongName OnUA-camIThink you need prayer
How can an all-knowing, omnipotent, infallible creator feel "mocked?"
***** my point exactly
+Rayed Darwish There hypersensitivities stem from their deep innate insecurities of the rubbish they have been taught to believe
Juc Lee
A lack of faith in reality makes religionists believe in the unbelievable.
That muslim boy is upset
Hassan gets upset about his name as if that's important. Of course it isn't but he skillfully takes the dopey audience's attention away from his shady past.
(YOU noticed his strategy too eh?) Grrrrrrrrr
If a religion is not peacefull in all its nature it should be abolished.
eclipse so goodbye to all religions?
Khan Sahinkaya yup...by his logic at least
Khan Sahinkaya exactly!
Nothing left but logic, love and Buddhism
Dire Firefly Peace and love brother alltho I am am I Muslim I just follow its most peaceful teachings and to love everyone bless you brother🙏🙏🙏
Khan Sahinkaya I'm glad to hear that :) if only everyone else could do the same
I absolutely love this man. It also turns out that a couple of my books on the Tudors were authored by him. My new hero.
Don't be ignorant, USA is not the only country in the world that has freedom of speech in their constitution
I might be wrong, so name me one.
+doug harrison Just to name one, the Netherlands (amongst many others, just google it)
I did google it and found this.
+doug harrison haha holy damn you do your research :P
Quite right David Starkey! There's a lot of common sense in what you say!
As a Muslim, I’m afraid he’s saying the truth. Muslims had glorious scientists, astronomers, poets, writers, philosophers, all while being more accepting than we are now. The rise of extremism is shameful.
Because you are extremist, and you think muslims are extremists , you are stupid despicable, muslims are being killed all over the world and when they try to defend themselves they become terrorists and extremists
Shame on you idiot
Although I don't think Starkey is perfect. He won this for me when he said "religion has got no privilege what so ever", he's so right
Anna Soubry .... what a show actor.
What Mehdi Hasan says at the start is absolute bollocks. He clearly hasn't heard of Piss Christ.
+MrMilo2013 or "The Life of Brian" or Sam Kinison. You are 100% correct.
kind of agree with Starkey here
As a Muslim, I 100% with Starkey on this clip about history of Islam. Muslims were glorious and now we're clowns.
Not sure about the thing with Mehdi as I have not seen full video.
they were never glorious, Muhammad was a murdering pedophile.
Well your research is sadly lacking and amateurish
So funny that the muslims have taken down the link you posted to medhis racism.
LIAR.
He works for huffington post the feminist pro islam joke of a media company and they say brietbart is terrible.
These journalists and their political "Rubbish" correctness David Starkey is absolutely right to say all he said..
David is Right about sex crimes by Pakistani cultures.
regular Joe yes but what does that have to do with Islam... why put the whole religion down as backward just coz of the actions of a few criminals?? It’s like saying all Americans are killers because every once in a while some random shooter goes to a school and kills kids
@@zahrahusain5965 good point. The problem with Islam is that, the children in madrasas are brain washed into thinking they are superior over everybody else, they are taught to misbehave with women if they are not modestly covered up, cause "they are asking for it"
With this sort of upbringing wat can one expect for the Pakistani population??
They believe the Earth is 6000 years old and don't want to made fun of. lol. Good luck.
Farshad1975 So do many Christians/Jews. That idiotic thought isn't only special to islam.
so do Christians
Starkey's the sort of fella I wanna sit round an open fire and polish off a bottle of port with
I'm impressed with your pretentiousness. I'd like to share a blunt with him, with a few vodka shots
You sound like you'd enjoy polishing something else with him.
+Happy Hamster
Other religions, politicians and suchlike are mocked regularly by cartoonists, satirists &c..
Happy Hamster
I think that sums it up 100%.
bingola45
Thanks Bing ☺
David Vs Gang of Apologists.
David wins, as always 💪
David Starkey has a first class brain.
I love David Starkey
way to go David 👍 the only person with sound reasoning in the panel....
Starkey is just way ahead of them all. A brilliant mind.
Wow, David Starkey recites a detestable quote from Mehdi Ahmed and his comeback is to point out how he got his name the wrong way round, and the fact that it doesn't matter because it was said 10 years ago.
To bad that I can't give 1 million likes for David Starkey
David Starkey is right on the money.
not sure if David Starkey is on youtube nor really cares what I think, but my compliments Sir, what an amazing, eloquent, thoughtful and objective assessment of the situation and the pointing out the root of the problem.
THAT MEDHI IS A HYPOCRITE CAN HE CRITICIZE SAUDI ARABIA IF HE IS IN THAT COUNTRY??
Go Starkey!
Why did you die Christopher Hitchens why did you die? The world needs you now more than ever.
"... something I said a decade ago." (Kind of admitting he said it, alrightie then.
"And Also, I'm really not going to take lessons on a man who blamed the london riots on black culture, and blamed sex crimes on Pakistani culture, and now blames terrorism on islam."
Why not, he sounds absolutely spot on.
And Anna Sourbry. What a joke of a person she turned out to be. Should have stayed on tv talk shows, but oh, had to get out there and 'represent'. Try living under islamic laws Anna, then come back and tell us how enlightened you are.
Don't worry, here's the video from the description. archive.org/details/MehdiHasan_201601
+Ethan Reuben (Reubinator999) -- Wow, that says it all. No more reason to wonder about this guy, it's very clear where he stands and what his ambitions are. Thanks for sharing this link, I hope it remains accessible.
Hears a real accusation against him
Retorts with a diverting comment about his name
Face the music ahmed.
Haha! This comment deserves more thumbs up.
I love Starkey, i don`t always agree with him but this time he`s correct
WRONG THERE NEVER EVER WAS A TOLERANT islam
David Starkey is a brilliant man.
muh feeling... muh feeling... muh diversity... muh moemads
That old man deserves a medal. Nothing should be off limits when it comes to free speech. Especially something as primitive as religion.
