    Up until a couple of years ago I had been a regular motorcyclist for over 40+ years. Towards the end I began to realise that if you want to buy 'anything' motorcycle related, chances are the price will either be double, or sometimes considerably more.
    Young people aren't as interested, or can't afford new motorcycles. Nor can they be bothered to go through the lengthy process of CBT's and extensive tests followed by restricted machines that are no fun to ride. A lot of potential young riders are now getting on high powered electric bikes and bicycles and sticking a finger up at the law. And if I am honest I can't say I blame them.
    I saw all this coming way back in the 80's when the Govt. of the time closed all the youth clubs down and stopped a lot of support for young people.
    Motorcycling is indeed a niche hobby and very soon we'll be seeing a lot more motorcycle companies, dealers and franchises going under, as more sad realities of modern life in backwards Britain...........

      The testing system is really putting people off big time DVSA need to sort their shit out and simplify it should be how it used to be either das or 2 years restricted then full power thereafter.

      You are bang on the money, I started riding on the road in 1982 when I was 16, as did most lads because it's all an apprentice could afford and you didn't have the ridiculous licensing system of today to put you off. How do we get back to motorcycles being daily transport instead of big boys' very expensive toys? It's probably the best thing we could do for the environment if that's one's concern, and it would definitely reduce congestion. When do you see an experienced motorcyclist stuck in a traffic jam. It's my belief that successive governments want to get rid of motorcycles, so by making it difficult to get a license, it will naturally die off as we old ones die off.

      Nailed it. I am 60 so my 2 sons have had multiple bikes around them all their lives, result? Zero interest in motorcycling. It's too much hassle & too expensive. I got a moped at 16 & promptly set off for the south of France, then at 17 l had a 250cc transport for everywhere & l was an adult. Society & cost is keeping the young from being adults until 30+!

    • @timranachan3224
      @timranachan3224 19 годин тому +2

      Absolutely. It cost me £13 to pass my test and change my licence to 'full' in 1980. We bought bikes because (a) we wanted a bike and (b) you could just go, buy a 250 and ride it! Instant freedom.
      What a change in half a century.
      I reckon my generation had it best.

    My son has just started his motorcycle life on the road and when pricing up 2 stroke oil he said it's 2pound cheaper online, i then explained to him that you should support your local dealer as much as you can as when they have gone it is gone for good. He now buys from our local shop (york Suzuki) and building a good relationship with them

    It's such a shame that dealers such as this are going under, I've never visited Saltire but was a regular visitor to their online site. I've come really close to buying a few of their second hand machines, then opted for other bikes. More recently I had my heart set on the new Chieftain Sport and was just waiting for the new model to hit the showroom floor. Now I'm rather glad I hadn't invested heavily into that given they're now in administration.

    New pricing is simply insane! Add the idiots that use 'never never' deals to think they can afford a new bike is another reason for this looming disaster. I bought a brand new 2008 Aprilia RSV Factory for £8,995. Fast forward to 2024, the new RSV Factory is over £26k! Just under a three fold increase in 16 years. Wages/salaries have barely changed in that time.
    Those savings you're seeing in that dealer going bust are taking the piss. If their going out of business, expect to get bid in bollocks for the last stock.

    Your Observations Coments are 100% . Most motorcycle dealerships are in a similar situation if they are honest , they are kidding themselves , to keep the ilusion going. There is NO MARKET for the gross over-supply of TOO EXPENSIVE TWO WHEELERS. Look at the second hand stock NOT MOVING TOO EXPENSIVE for the market. Younger people do not want motorcycles , and us old ones are a dying out.
