  • Thanks for listening. Full details of my symptoms + contact info are at itsdanbull.com/health-problems/
    What I believe I have is a combination of the following:
    1. Eustachian Tube Dysfunction
    2. Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction
    3. Hyperacusis / Tonic Tensor Tympani Syndrome
    I believe these symptoms share a causal factor but nobody has been able to adequately explain it so far. It's fukcing me up, it really is. Thanks again for listening x

    You probably won't read this comment (sadly) BUT this is not an Ear problem. It developed from an Ear infection, yes, but it is the jaw, to be more precise, it's above the jaw muscles. Let that get checked out! (it only seems like a ear problem, but it's actually right below the auditoral canal, which is why you hear it that loud)
    PS: yes i will thumb up my own comment, because i want Dan to see it.

      I think it would be better to use 6 degrees of separation to find the best specialist (aka a real life dr. House) and find a cure. If I was in his position I would've committed suicide by now, he's been to 13 different people who were either clueless or not very helpful. The UA-cam community is well connected, we ought to be able to find him the specialist he needs.

      ***** Boyinaband
      I say that Dan is the modern-day Beethoven....
      As Beethoven started going through the same problems at the same age, he also composed some of his best music...
      200 years later, we have an extaordinarily gifted musician going through the same issues as one of the greatest composers in history. Plus with advancement in medicine and technology, it should be a bit easier for Dan to get through life and deal with this disability. If you don't want it to overcome you, continue to strive to overcome it, no matter how difficult it may be.
      Hope you don't let this obstacle overwhelm you too much. If you can surpass this obstacle, you will have a much brighter future. If you let it get to you, you might give in and let it drag you down.
      Hope you get better some day soon Dan! Cheers to you Dave for being a wonderful friend!
      Full support from across the pond,

    You have a massive audience and experienced hyperacusis/TTTS which have so little funding and so little attention. Please help bring more attention to these conditions. I didn't even find this video after 8 months of looking at videos on these topics because these keywords weren't in the title of the video. Just now it's finally showing me this video in the search for some reason. Some of us have constant burning pain for months on end in our ears. It's not even about not being able to talk, it's about not being able to sit in silence either.

    Have you tried gong to a dentist/jaw surgeon? It sounds like it isn't actually your ears, which is why ear specialists don't find anything; but it's your jaw joints. Like their infected and swollen and thus put pressure on your ear drums producing the popping sounds.

    Beethoven was completely Deaf when he wrote his greatest symphonies
    Thomas Bangtler from Daft Punk has Tinnitus
    What I'm trying to say is that some of the greatest musicians have some type of hearing disorder that pushed their talent to the limit
    I developed hearing problems in the last few months aswell even though I've limited the volume on my iPod for a few years now and don't listen loud music anymore

      I did never say that being nice would pay the bills.
      There are many things which pay the bills that you don't necessarily have to be "good" at. I mean pretty much anyone (obviously excluding a very small amount of people like quadriplegics, for example) can mop a floor or work at McDonald's.
      But Dan doesn't want to do that and nor would I want him to. It's just that when I hard him say that he was bad at everything but music, I knew he was wrong.

    I’m going through a very similar thing dude.... at uni studying music production, finally doing something I love... was working on a mix and compressing drums, had it too loud and I had a sinus infection at the time. The sound pressure pushed mucus into my inner ear and fucked up my hearing completely, couldn’t look at a screen, couldn’t walk in a straight line, couldn’t listen to music or play piano anymore... even a car going past me would shake my head... I’ve learnt to take more breaks, keep making music (even though it fucking kills) keep using ear drops n also trying to hear past the tinnitus and pressure, you can do it bro... it will get better, your brain adapts and works around it but you gotta be prepared and believe that it can do it, trust me mate... I send you all my positive energy’s bro, peace

      GZam14 Agreed when a youtuber stops posting video's he stops getting a regular income I'll try to do my best to explain
      A youtuber gets money per ad seen (wich is less than a cent per ad) so when he/she uploads a video a lot of the subscribers will wach that video and see an ad
      Old video's also produce ad revenue but they don't get regualrly watched by a good chunk of the subscribers (seriously when was the last time you went and rewached a video from someone you are subbed to :P)
      So in conclusion: Every new vid posted is a sudden income of money and an old vid is a slow trickle of money coming in (usually not enough to live on)
      I hope that cleared things up a bit :D

      Dextar300 So then if all of his subscribers rewatched one of his videos a day he could get an income still? If thats the case then ***** you need to make a video explaining your situation and ask that of us because one video a day won't hurt us and will help you. just dont make things worse

      (I'm putting this here to see what people think about it)
      Holy crap Dan! I knew you had some problems, but I didn't know they had gotten this bad D: I feel so sorry for you! I'm no expert or anything, so I have no clue what could help, but I do have something that could help a little bit. Sometimes I get sick in a way that my throat hurts very bad whenever I swallow, (I missed a week of school once because of it) but I found that I only ever seem to swallow or notice it when I'm thinking about it, so I would always do stuff like read or write stories, or play video games, and various other things to avoid it. Maybe you can try, maybe it won't help, but where's the harm in trying right?

  • @Wintergore
    @Wintergore 9 років тому +334

    Hey Dan,
    I've had something extremely similar to you in regards to your jaw, the stiffness, and clicking/cracking in the ears and jaw for me was caused by temporomandibular jaw dysfunction from clenching/grinding my jaw unknowingly or in my sleep. I thought my jaw and ear where 2 different issues I would get frustrated and try to clean my ear out a lot, I ended up getting an ear infection which lead to my ears popping constantly. my doctors referred me to a dentist, who got me setup with a retainer that would stop my jaw clenching when I sleep at night, and muscle exercises to help relax my jaw and after a couple months the cracking and clicking has gone down to a minimum.
    Hope you get everything sorted and get well soon,
    -Winter

    You have TMJ. *EDIT* Just now saw that you already had it in your description.
    Temporomandibular joint dysfunction
    Consult a doctor if you have a medical concern.
    Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders (TMJ disorders) are problems or symptoms of the chewing muscles and joints that connect your lower jaw to your skull.
    My mother had this, it started with her ears, and then moved to her jaws, and they were in pain. See a doctor and mention TMJ and see what he says. Consult multiple doctors
    Hope you get better as I have had ear problems all my life and I know how much they suck. They keep you from talking and interacting with people because you can barely hear yourself over the constant popping and cracking.

    I'm so, so sorry I can't do anything to help you, Dan. my mom's a doctor, but she deals more with brains. I wrote down the stuff you posted on your website and asked her to show to people at her hospital, and made sure she explained the situation with people telling you to just ignore it. Nothing came of it... It's not a very prestigious hospital anyway... I wish I could help. I really hope you find some way to fix it, and if it cost a lot I would gladly donate whatever I can, but there's really nothing I can do other than cheer you on, which makes me feel useless. I really hope you can leave all this behind as a sad period of life that made you stronger, some day. Good luck, and whatever you do, just never give up :)

    I can only echo the comments below - right now, music isn't important. You're an amazing fucking talent, you can afford to take a month or two off and get to the bottom of this. We won't go away. We are all pulling for you, and hope you can sort this out. I am beginning to think too it might be a bone/skeletal problem rather than ear specifically - if it's that loud that even we can hear it ON CAMERA that has to be properly severe. And it seems to happen when you swallow or make certain movements.

    You need an MRI to take a look at the action of your jaw movements on your ears. Your actual ears are working fine -- this is a mechanical problem and it can be fixed.
    Your jaw problems come from you constantly trying to avoid making the noises. It's just the stress of dealing with this new problem. That will go away once you identify the source of the sound.
    You also should have a high-frequency microphone inserted into your inner ear to record the sounds your jaw movements are making.

      One caution with the MRI. It's *extremely* loud. There are a couple MRI machines in England which are quieter I believe. None in the US I could find. But with your current acoustic sensitivity, if you decide to get an MRI research where you can find the audio reduced ones.

    Go to an allergist dude! I've been experiencing the same symptoms as you, and it turns out dust mites and grass are the culprits. Inflammation due to allergens cause excess mucus and blockages in the eustachian tubes. Go get an allergy test and see what is causing the inflammation, reduce your exposure to said allergens and your hearing with be back to normal. Or get allergy shots.
    For temporary relief (until you see an allergist), buy a Neti pot and ask your doctor for a corticosteroid ( in Canada its called Pulmacort) ampule(s). Mix one ampule with the Neti pot saline solution and flush your sinus twice a day. Makes a world of difference.
    Hope this helps.

    Good lord Dan, this is awful, what exactly is the problem to recovery here, can you elaborate? Is it just not being able to find a specialist who can help or is the issue funds? Have you been to a private doctor or a private specialist about this? If not locally have you considered globally? If money is an issue I'm sure if you launched a crowd funded campaign to raise the funds for private treatment that we'd all take care of that really fucking sharp.
    I genuinely hope you get better, and it's not just internal, the pain in the video is obvious to anyone with a shred of empathy, I hope you can find a specialist who can help. He has the details here: itsdanbull.com/health-problems/
      Basically, the specialists he has seen have different ideas, and treat it as something minor, and the various treatments have failed. It is a diagnosis problem.

    • @Frosty-oj6hw
      @Frosty-oj6hw 9 років тому +2

      Guy On A Computer Yeah I've actually just read that, so it looks like everyone he's seen is someone local and mostly not specialists, he needs to get in front of a private practitioner and expert on hearing to get diagnosed, it's going to require travel probably, maybe abroad to find someone really good. My suggestion is to find the best he can, no matter where they're located then put a plan together to crowd fund the costs to get there and see them, get diagnosed.
      As he said his music is his life and having a bad jaw and ears is a massive risk to letting him keep doing what he loves, there's enough incentive in the work he's already done for everyone to chip in and give something back to Dan to sort this out, I'm betting his fans would all donate at least a little, he'd soon fund private treatment.
      That'd be my plan anyway.

      ***** I have been doing research. Maybe I can find a link for him to suggest to his doctors. Hell, the thousands of us working together, we'll find something, I am sure.

    Almost cried listening to this man. You're one of my favorite artists. Watching you go would be the worst. Stay strong for the music but your health should be a priority.
    Solution 1
    I think some of your ear and haw problems are related to your temporomandibular joint and a condition called crepitis. Basically it's when either the joint grinds or extra stuff gets in the joint. This would cause pain in the joint during normal function and possibly popping noises through movement. I think surgery is the course of action to correct dysfunction.
    Solution 2
    I know it might be expensive and extreme, but I would recommend and exploratory surgery. Basically if medical imaging and tests cannot identify the problem, doctors open you up and take a look around as a last resort. They either do it with a small camera through a small incision or they truly open you up to look with their eyes. Depending where the procedure is done, it can have some risks. Mostly risks are associated to infection and bleeding risks but you should still be aware of them.

    • @SVDurLIFE
      @SVDurLIFE 9 років тому +1

      I also feel like your jaw pain is related to the way you're compensating for this problem. You're forcing your jaw to do things the way it's not supposed to. It's like lifting heavy weights without any proper form or training. The jaw cannot handle it and therefore that's why it's painful. You can tell this is true if you were to compare your speech and jaw movement between videos. In your earlier videos, your jaw is free and alot more mobile. In this video, you speak more through your teeth in a jaw clenching motion and your jaw doesn't open as wide.

      God, It's really fucking loud.
      Seriously, you can hear it on camera. I really feel for Dan, it must be agony to have this. Not just because it's horrible in general, but for a professional musician it must be killing.
      Not only is it a serious thread for your carreer, but also mentally it must be horrible. I cannot imagine what Dan goes through :(
      All the best for Dan. Hang on there, there must be an answer somewhere.

    • @SirNikurasu
      @SirNikurasu 9 років тому +4

      Yep but way louder.
      Do you know that when you "crack" your ears eg when you want to "open" them (cant explain it in english). Better example: you hear bad, everythings is pretty silent but you know theres something making noise, you pop your ears and suddenly hear better.

    I'm so sorry about your ear issues; I had an ear infection about a year back, and after that my ears cracked and popped to no end. Even though it's passed now I can hear everything a semitone sharp in my left ear, which really affects my music. So I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through the same issues only worse; we'll support you all the way Dan. :)

    For TMJ Dysfunction as long as you are over the age of 19 for men and 16 for women then there is an operation where they brake your jaw and realign it in a new place to stop the clicking and pain.

    • @caimin15221522
      @caimin15221522 9 років тому

      Its called a double eminectamy I believe. My mum had one because she has tmj and it completely fucked her jaw up. It screwed up the balance in her inner ear which gives her awful motion sickness, her jaw click-clacks more than Thomas the dank engine and her face has drooped so she now looks different to when she did before the op. And the best part is the fact that the "specialist"
      who performed the op says that it was a complete success and that all of the symptoms are in her head ( which I guess they are but that's beside the point )

    ear infections do not simply go away there are ways to treat it though I have had it before and Dan please read this for you health lad if the doctors around your area are not helping you whatsoever then in that case you should go to either doctors in a different country or better doctors around a different region in your country I don't quite remember what I I'd to cure the ear infection but I will go search it up for you and post it here so your ears can get better

      well my uncle just said it probably started as the eardrum membrane got infected with some sorts as he states on the website with a cold but as Dan stated that he waited for two years which is never good it got really bad so I would just go to a really good doctor that is well known in your country for curing infections like Dan has. so my best reccomendation for you Dan is to not go to doctors that are nearby you but perhaps go to one in another city that can actually get work done

    Keep up the good work dan, stay positive, i've had the same problem as you do and i have been to quite a few different people about it and not a single one has been able to diagnose me with anything, it stops me from sleeping so im lucky to get 4 hours of sleep a night, it takes a massive toll on your overall state of mind, it is emotionally damaging and just fucks you up in so many different ways. After watching this video it has inspired me to not give up on myself, you have given me confidence that the problem will get fixed, stay strong and keep up all the good work dan we appreciate that you are still doing what you're doing despite this set back
