    Thank you so much ladies, you are awesome. I just got my Amara with ProStitcher built yesterday and this was SOOOO helpful to reiterating how important it is to square up your quilt.

    Wonderful videos and tips from you guys. Thanks. I hand baste my tops instead of with the machine. This gives me better control and doesn't take long!

    I float my top and put painters tape on the leader at the ends of the border after initially centering to keep the vertical based borders aligned as the quilt is advanced.

    Hey guys, any reason the video keeps cutting out and nothing but black shows? It's happened several times... thanks.

    With a larger quilt, do you "float" your quilt or roll it on the belly bar?

    • @HandiQuilter
      @HandiQuilter  14 днів тому

      We recommend rolling on the bar but there are many quilters that prefer to "float". Whatever works best for you!

    Hi Ladies, thank you for such an awesome video with tips. I am a new quilter and and I wanted to ask if I am using a stencil is it better to start quilting in the middle of the quilt?

    • @HandiQuilter
      @HandiQuilter  10 місяців тому

      It really depends on a lot of variables so there is no right or wrong answer.

    Great Video. I have a question. When you measure down the quilt in different spots and you figure out what the width will be how does that work in the long run. Do you line up your binding on that mark all the way down at the shortest measurement? I stitch my binding on while my quilt is on the frame and than take it off, cut to 1/4 inch and hand sew on the back.

    OK, the cutting out seems to have resolved. So next question, when one purchases a machine like this, are all these tips and tricks part of the instruction package that one receives as part of the set up? This video has been remarkably detailed and I would be afraid that I would forget most of what I was taught...

      You can save UA-cam videos into your "saved " tab

      There is a lot of community investment within a purchase of a machine like this. What I mean is that there are forums and a plethora of videos on UA-cam that you can search. You can follow specific channels and scroll through their content as well. I’ve had no instruction on my machine other than what I have found online and I’ve had a good deal of success. I think the online community has been sufficient in allowing me to learn. Handi quilter has a lot of videos like this one so it’s a really good resource.

    Great video! I would like to see a demo, however, of the tip Christina was describing beginning at minute 9+. She starts at the bottom??? Don't quite understand what she was describing. Thank you.

      After you establish a straight line of basting at the top of the quilt and established where the edges of the quilt should be, rather than basting the sides starting from the top, start at the belly bar and baste upward towards the top of the quilt to help ease in fullness. Otherwise the easing doesn’t happen and you end up pushing all of the fullness to the bottom of the quilt making it very challenging to make it straight or have it look nice. I’ve had this issue myself on a few of my quilts, so it’s a really good tip I think. I’d like to see it demonstrated to see how they ease and keep the side straight with the vertical channel locks.

    I have been quilting less than 6 months and I had not learned all of these wonderful details that y’all talked about. Thank You. Also does the glide foot work better, including the basting than the regular foot or ruler foot? Thanks

      The glide foot is my favorite for basting. Every foot has their own purpose so I wouldn't say one is better than another in general but it might be better for a particular technique.

    • @anitra7747
      @anitra7747 3 роки тому +1

      Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a glide foot that had markings on it for lining up the edge of the quilt specifically for basting🤔 that way you can get the benefits of both feet all in one. 😃

    How do you change the basting stitch length? I have just left mine at factory settings but would like to change it. And why would you use the different basting lengths? Thank you as a newbie these tips are wonderful 😊

    • @kristinawhitneyhqstudioedu7013
      @kristinawhitneyhqstudioedu7013 3 роки тому

      You can change the basting stitch length in the same place that you change your stitch length. A lot of the basting length is personal preference. A shorter basting stitch holds things better but a longer basting stitch is easier to pull out. I usually use 1/4" or 1/2" to baste my sides and tops. If I am basting within the quilt and want easily remove the stitching, I use a longer basting stitch like 1" or 2".

      I agree and often you lose the view of what's being done as it is "off the screen" and hidden by the split screen. Not a good improvement.

    When you are basting, after you pull up your bobbin thread, do you use the tie off function before you start the basting? Thanks again

    • @kristinawhitneyhqstudioedu7013
      @kristinawhitneyhqstudioedu7013 3 роки тому

      If I don't care about the basting pulling out a little, I don't do the tie offs. If however, the basting is going to be in for a while, as I roll a quilt back and for or take it off and on the frame, I would probably use the tie offs.

    I'm having issues with this video it blacks out in small sections. why the split screen??

    • @HandiQuilter
      @HandiQuilter  8 місяців тому +1

      There was a glitch that caused the black outs. As for the split screen, it was filmed back during covid when we weren't allowed to be less then 6' apart. Wasn't that a joyful time?!?! (Yes, said with sarcasm!)

  • @Bonnieruble

    As a new quilter, I really look forward to the videos but this one was very hard to follow because 1) The video went black several times and only the words showed up and 2) The split screen left a lot of what you were doing out of the picture so although you were saying what you were doing we could not see what was being done. Sorry, it was just confusing to me.

    Video keeps going black! Makes it hard to follow what is being done. Sometimes you see the split screen and I wish I could see what the quilter is doing. They show and talk about to do but I see their faces instead of what they are doing. Need some work on doing a split screen! Great information, presentation could be better.
