    Its funny this popped up right as I’m selling mine😂
    It’s a really good basic controller though, super clean.

      Haha. Yeah I’m sure in time I’ll get something more expensive but it certainly does the job right. How comes your selling?

      @@WhoIsAlexElliott I’m moving for work & won’t be able to have a dedicated space for at least 6 months.
      so I am down sizing to a mobile rig & selling this controller, my genelecs (with an arc studio), an aston stealth mic and a few pairs of headphones to fund upgrading my backpack rig.

      @@WhoIsAlexElliottI am on a m1 pro macbook with an audient id24 (for now) I just got a pair of the new Sennheiser hd90 pros and some new dt 700 x.
      (I’m thinking of picking up some of the 3 inch genelecs) My mic is a lewitt 440 flex & I’m using a mpk 37 for midi.
      I’m using studio one but have been demoing logic for 2 months and may make the switch.
      Any suggestions?

      @@dfhm-pq2cfabsolutely.
      I was on studio one for a while then returned to logic. The main you’ll miss is the drag and drop ease of S but a huge thing you’ll gain is continued apple silicon compatibility and general improved performance. Rendering will be much quicker and the built in sound library is far superior.
      Regarding portable setup I think your audio interface choice is perfect. The DT770x is what I had until I could afford the Audeze LCDX which are superior in quality but also cost 😅.

    I agree. It’s a very good controller. I had it for a few years. It feels great & the buttons are convenient. It’s a lot bigger, higher & thicker than it looks online. I sold it recently only because over time I thought it was too big for my desk/space. I ended up buying the RME remote/controller since I already have an RME interface.

    • @WhoIsAlexElliott

      You’re the second person to tell me about that RME interface. I need to check them out

      @@WhoIsAlexElliott Yea it’s cool. I first used the RME Babyface Pro interface then moved up to the RME UFX II with the extra ins & outs so it made sense for me to get the RME remote since it can control the same things the Baby Ram controller can, plus more.

    Appreciate this video man. I'm about to demo some monitors for my channel and I've been thinking of picking this up and really appreciate your perspective. I care about the user experience of a product so I do care about what I use feeling high quality, and it's a good note to think about the volume levels between monitors - hadn't thought about that, but like you my plan isn't to quick flip so I think I'm good! I use an Apollo Twin as my interface, which is a shame it doesn't have 2 sets of monitor outs because it already has a great volume dial (I can't say knob to an Englishman) and a mute haha, oh well...what's another box on the ol desk haha. ✌

    • @WhoIsAlexElliott
      @WhoIsAlexElliott  3 місяці тому

      I’m pretty confident the Apollo twin can use two sets of monitors and has an alt button to flip between. You can even use the console app to level match the outputs. Which Mark do you have. MK1 or MK2 or Mk3?

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos 3 місяці тому +1

      @@WhoIsAlexElliott I appreciate your reply, but yeahhh I have the thunderbolt one from like 8 or 9 years ago (still going strong), so the second set of outs can only be controlled from the software, which woullld work for sure, but my setup is all HW (I just use the Apollo as a controller 99% of the time, and then just hook it up to my MBP when I want to actually sit down and record) so I def want to go with something that works at a HW level. Might consider upgrading to a newer Apollo though.

      @@Duskmos ah yes that one was frustrating for me also I remember. I bought this because it was a simple and cheap solution. Some people have said they had some issues after a few months but others have had it without issues for years. But it’s worth mentioning. I think for this price you’d be hard pressed to find anything with same functionality and sound quality

      @@WhoIsAlexElliott Yeah I'm going back and forth, I don't think I'll enjoy having two "big wheel" controllers on my desk, but it might be the best route for now. If I can space them out enough it'll be fine lol. Appreciate it man - looking forward to more videos!

  • @AyoMillz
    @AyoMillz 4 місяці тому +1

    As for the level matching issue; only one solution comes to mind... old school speaker calibration using the volume pots on the back of the speaker. You'll need an SPL meter that can read out A-Weight (which can be downloaded). Then you're just opening your DAW and dropping a sine wave signal generator on a mono channel. With the Baby RAM set to Null then bring each speaker up 83dB and the set reading 85dB.

    • @WhoIsAlexElliott
      @WhoIsAlexElliott  4 місяці тому

      Great idea. If the speakers have this option then absolutely. Or if they have the option for -10 or +4DB input sensitivity on the back. Unfortunately my amphions have no way of doing this

      @@AyoMillzyeah they are great speakers. 😅 so a little turn up and down is a comprise I can live with. Whiles saving a ton of money. In future I will likely get a more expensive one that has all the said features. But thought I’d share this video for those who don’t have the high budgets, I think it’s a good unit for the price 👌.

    hey! can you use the lynz aurora knob as a volume controller?

    • @WhoIsAlexElliott
      @WhoIsAlexElliott  4 місяці тому

      Yes you can use as volume. But there is no effective way to switch between A/B monitors so you can only use 1 set unless you buy an external monitor controller. And when you push the volume knob in you can have it either mute or dim

    The nr 1 thing in a monitor controller is how long it lasts, I have researched this one a little bit and seems like it will start popping etc after a while. I used drawmer before and it held to about warranty. In the end its not that cheap considering many of these entry options only last 2-3 years. Highly recommend a basic switcher and have volume controlled by your interface digitally. For example RME has a big nice wheel on babyface, and you can buy that "wheel" cheaply to any RME interface that will last and be transparent for an eternity

    • @WhoIsAlexElliott

      Thanks for the heads up I’ll keep a look out for this.
      & Yeah it’s under £200 at the end of the day so not surprised if it doesn’t last the longest. But if it lasts 2-3 years and I save a minimum of £1000 it kind of works out cost wise still.
      I ahead a terrible experience with drawer. I bought two and they both broke within months.
