    Will there's loads of photography channels out there and I watch a good few, but since I found yours I must say I'm enjoying photography now more than ever. From the start of a concept, through all the stages, to a finished image. Thanks for the effort and the great content.

    I just started watching your UA-cam Channel and really found your videos to be a great help. Next trip to the Kauai I will be taking my 400mm and my 135mm. I really like your ACR editing style. The dynamic range of my old Canon 6D is not that great so I've been using linear profiles. Have you ever worked with them before?

    Lots of very helpful advice for wave shots. These videos from location right through to editing back at home are great, you really excel at this.

    So true that it’s hard to go back to the 70-200mm after using the 100-400mm for landscape photography. Thanks for the video

    Thank you so much. Think I’ll get the 2 times Tele converter for my 100 - 400. Very informative!!!

    Love the shots you got. This type of seascape photography is on my bucket list. The closest I’ve gotten is a series of waves crashing over a seawall. Haven’t tried it with my 100-400 as I struggle handheld because of a previously broken wrist. Looking forward to trying with my new Z 28-400 which is much lighter.

    You picked a good time to be back! A few weeks earlier I was there when it was about a 17ft swell. Absolutely pumping but Is it just me or are those rocks down there slippery AF? Good job filming and scrambling.
    I captured my favourite image from there back in 2017…?…the backwash created the shape of a swan head and wings. I didn’t want to process it until I had the confidence to do it justice. It’s been marinating as you say for about 12months now😅 almost ready to print it…

      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  5 місяців тому +1

      Haha tag me on the image so I can see :) I don’t find the rocks too slippery here thankfully. Certainly not a place you want to mess around though. I’ve seen people lose gear here in the past, getting too close and caught off guard.

      @@WilliamPatinoPhotography haha even in the glory days of Instagram I didn’t even post it, an image just for me but I’ll see if I can DM a screenshot of it.
      Certainly not a place for the inexperienced. 😬

    I discovered your channel while researching for a telephoto for my new A7iv and bought the 100-400 GM today. Fantastic channel you have. Beautiful work! P.S. Your shots hit home and are very inspiring because I’m on the opposite side of the world in a very similar environment in Northern Norway.

    Thank you so much I have found this incredibly useful from start to finish image thank you! I am learning, where do you aim to focus on the waves, which focus point/AF zone? I struggle with this. I have not found a waves tutorial yet that covers focus point in seascape/waves photography. Thank you!

    nice shots!!!
    Do you find the 2x teleconverter better over the 1.4x? just with the 2x amplification of the aperture and any other, i dont want to say, shortcomings of a lens. or is it just a case of good quality glass is the key?

    • @WilliamPatinoPhotography
      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  5 місяців тому +2

      Thanks mate :) The main problem with converters and putting them on a 100-400 is that you are compressing so much distance/atmosphere, so if there is high enough humidity, the image will be soft. But with low moisture in the air, the x2 is awesome. I do have a handful of 800mm images in my portfolio. I know at 800mm it forces f/11, not sure what the x1.4 will do. It's certainly not ideal if you are handheld but I'm sure the x1.4 isn't much better in that regard.

      @@WilliamPatinoPhotography sweet. interesting to know. I'm looking at getting a telephoto lens (I'm using the canon system) and was looking at the 1.4x and the 2x converters for a 70-200 but the 100-400 has always piqued my interest as well. it's a weapon of a lens and seems to be the way a lot of people are going, over the 70-200.

    Some stunning images there. What do you do when it comes to focus. Do you just set it to infinity?

    would be interesting to see that specific slab/deep to shallow break during off-shore winds. Not sure where you are/what direction you're facing relative to earth's orbit around the sun, though during off-shore winds a lower sun (perpendicular to the direction of the swell) reflecting off that slab would be gooooorgeous

    It's the one lens I don't have because I shoot GFX 100s ii - They only make a 500 which they've just released but given that I use a 100 megapixel camera I and shooting 200 mm and then cropping into 350 where I live which is very similar to this coast the waves are quite close I can also use a converter but I do love these types of shots. I love the description of portraits of the sea.. Yeah I love mixing up some shadow speeds as well even doing a half second exposure on your least favourite thing that tripod..lol .. But yeah, just mixing it up a little bit. I live on the south coast of Western Australia where the Indian nation meets the southern ocean and it's just incredible here we have some huge swells to photograph. I'm interested in the you wouldn't keep some of them and then crop. Some people don't like to crop some people do it's definitely something I do a lot but I'm lucky that I have a camera that can actually crop in really well. I really like that one 10th of a second one that's just epic! Awesome

    • @WilliamPatinoPhotography
      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  3 місяці тому

      Video at 100-400mm will be best on a tripod or if you’re handheld, shoot at a faster frame rate and slow it down in post. Slow motion with stabilisation will be smooth. But if you don’t want slow mo and you feel too shaky, just use a tripod :)

    Lol I don't know why but I was cracking up at the detailed descriptions of each shot and then the abrupt and stern "delete." :D Also coming from San Diego and trying to do this with a 24-200, it just doesn't work the same. All those "deletes" with too much background or foreground are about 99% of the shots at 200. Would certainly second the 100-400 over the 70-200 if you ever want to try this type of stuff.

    • @WilliamPatinoPhotography
      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  5 місяців тому

      Haha, I’m hearing you 😅 And yeah, even 400mm wasn’t enough at times that’s for sure. 100-400mm is just way better to have. Or a 70-200 with converter.
