Recorded LIVE in my home studio during lockdown in New Zealand in April 2020.
I have always meant to record an acoustic version of this song. It's so honest when it is just guitar and vocal something really haunting about it.
I remember being given the music which was written by Jamie Muhoberac, Carmen Rizzo & Paul Oakenfold while I was in Hollywood working with Carmen on my debut album 'Departure'. It took 45 minutes to write the lyrics and lock in the melody. At the time I was listening to a lot of Bjork's 'Homogenic' and Radiohead's 'Ok Computer', two of my all time favourite albums (perhaps because of the minor chords). I rode around to Carmen's studio on my bike, and went right into the studio and recorded the vocal idea immediately. Paul loved it even though it was the scratch vocal, so we kept it, and Oakenfold added it to his artist-based album 'Bunkka' which released through Maverick, Warner Music in 2003.....! Almost 20 years ago. Wow, sorry it took so long. Paul and I only played it out live together in Malta (thanks to Clay C) in 2018 using the Gabriel & Dresden remix. Thank you beautiful people for loving this song so much. It's been incredible to see how much love people have for it, and what it means to them/us. Please share with me.. I love reading your words! No! I think it was Miles Davis said you can't play the blues without knowing the blues. I wrote this song based on my own emotions of a break up - or pending break up some kind of doom I knew was looming, but I was going through many changes in my life at this time. I cry almost everytime I listen to this song. It takes me to a place out of this world, full of love and freedom. Your voice and the melody is so angelic. I still remember the first time I heard it. At a Tiesto party. I can't even describe the feelings I felt. I just remember I almost froze, the song touched me. When it ended I was running around asking people what song was that🤣 One of the best moments of my life. It is very hard to pick one favourite song but I know THIS is mine. I am still strictly vinyl only classic trance dj. I used it in my 3 hr Language Of The Dragons set on my UA-cam channel with 4 Strings - take me away(vocal mix)mix in and Tiesto - In my memory(Airwave remix)mix out.
That set is dedicated in loving memory of my cat that passed away back in November 2021 and the track selection used tells my story of the rollercoaster ride of emotions i went through leading up to my cats passing…

haha! how funny! I don't think many people are used to seeing the actual artist doing a rendition of a trance song in such a raw way. I think it sort of stuns people. I've always existed musically under the radar, I suppose that's my own fault, for fear of being seen too much .. Next year I am planning to come out into the world and play this song live with a few friends who also had huge tracks in the EDM world from that time. I have an analogy for how i felt when i was a kid listening to this song, paul's music was like the spaceship and your voice was the fuel that took me to the stars and way beyond in the chorus.
In my country cable TV was not a thing my family could afford so there was this open air music channel that had this video and like 30 other songs only running all day long and I was so happy they kept on rolling the video, it made me cry.

@@carlawernerofficial I’m eventually putting this into some words) It must be sounding trite if I say that I've been in love with this melody since years. It was summer of 2005 when I first encountered it. It was used as a background sound for an inline skating video that I downloaded from my local network (that's how we shared big files back then in a provincial city in Russia - the provider didn't charge clients for using the fileshare traffic). That year was the year when my USA visa application was rejected and instead of spending my summer in the states I bought myself a pair of K2 skates and really dove into skating. The guy on the video was a skating pro and the mix just perfectly matched his high-class carefree skating. This was exactly how I wanted it to be: soaring on skates and hearing this melody in my head. I watched the video for hundred times without even knowing the name of the track.
Recently, I was listening to some trance set on youtube and it had THAT song. The set was coming with a tracklist and I was finally able to find out the name of the song and the artist - Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun. But it was not satisfying enough. It just couldn't be that it was performed by some Paul. It was exactly this enchanting voice that was making it special. But who was it to sing it? I then discovered your name and found this youtube clip. At first, the casual atmosphere of the video set my expectations to hear some home-made shadow of the original singing. Was fun to read about your yoga project and meditation music. It was like going to an exciting exhibition in an art gallery and discovering a door at the very end of the last room. And then, after opening it ending up in a yet another art collection that you didn't expect. I admire your exciting and fulfilled life!
