Almost every 1911 needs a break in. The tight tolerances are typically always the issue with its initial failures.
Everyone is expecting this type of gun to run like a Glock or S&W or polymer guns alike right out of the box with their more loose tolerances.
This is still a 1911 seems like they’re all forgetting that.

I think alot of the issues people are having is stemming from SA spraying cerakote all over EVERYTHING! Even in places that don't need it like critical mating surfaces.
Spend a little time polishing those areas and you'll have a solid reliable pistol.

My experience with a close friend's 4.25 is the exact same thing. I don't think it's anything that some polishing and/or alot of shooting and dry cycling won't fix though. Totally agree friend

Very true…I had about a dozen FTF on the first 150 rounds through mine. I cleaned and lubed and shot another 120 rounds with one FTF. Cleaned it again and noticed that it was dirtier than I would expect with only 120 rounds through it. I ended up watching some videos and ran across one where a guy purchased a new one and cleaned it when he got home and it was filthy. He then started doing a manual break in and found out that the cerakote coating wearing off was causing all the filth when cleaning. I decided to do the same and started my manual break in…ended up doing 3k racks and cleaned it every 250 racks. With each cleaning just tons of cerakote coming off. I took it out after the manual break in and shot 300 rounds and not one issue. I definitely recommend a manual break in due to the amount of cerakote that is on all the critical mating surfaces.

Same! Manually racked about 1000 times and the slide is noticeably slicker and smoother. Slightly more play in the slide to frame fit now which seems to aid in cycling. Barrel lock up is still solid. Love the gun and would absolutely do it again.

I think this version of the Prodigy was geared towards a more tactical user and not a competition user which is why the grip isn't as textured and the trigger is a little heavier than a comp gun would be

Great video. I just ordered one…. My first 1911/2011 platform. I’ve been educating myself and this video helped a lot. Ordered some EGW and atlas parts so when it gets here I’ll be doing some upgrades. Probably post a video when it’s done. Just sub’d.

My prodigy trigger breaks at about2.5 lbs. crisp with very short reset. Only took about an hour to do. You Tube is full of gunbuilders who show the process. Some might say that’s too light, but all my 2011s are adjusted in that range. No “hammerfollow” and no negligent discharges. Your mileage may vary.

I love my edc 4.25 prodigy. It goes evey where with me with iwb apendix carry. Easy to edc with a good holster. My trigger day I got it new was 4.5 lbs. Now after 1000 rounds broke in is at 3 to 3.25 lbs. My trigger is amazing and crisp as hell. The prodigy has about a 700 round break in period. It will be a totally diffrent pistol at 500 to 750 rounds. The slide is like butter now. The only thing and this is with all 2011 and 1911. They love oil and require cleaning. I over do it and clean every 250 rounds since it is my edc but I have heard clean every 500 to 750 rounds and oil it every 250 rounds and will run gr3at. The 2011/1911 love oil and run like crap with out it. This isn't a glock it requires cleaning and up keep. 2011 are the formula 1 race cars of pistols and require maintance.

Easily one of the flattest guns I’ve ever shot. I sent mine back into Springfield because the chamber is too tight causing some issues with some ammo. Can’t wait to get it back

@@JayJay-qi9pk It needed the chamber reamed out. I wasn’t spending $100+ on a finish reamer when I could send it back for free. They’ve already got it back to me and the chamber is in spec now.

Vortex Venom will fit the mounting plate but it won't fit on the gun with the plate. The sight binds against the slide cut and the rear sight. I tried. I have a new plate on order that should fit the Holosun. Hopefully that works. If not mine will be up for sale. Other than that mine shoots well. The trigger is nothing to write home about and for $1500 I do expect better. All in all not bad. My CZ's are not going anywhere anytime soon I can tell you that. My TSO will run circles around this all day long and only cost a couple of hundred bucks more.

The timing of the release of this gun along with USPSA discussing a division that allows SAO guns to compete (in other than Open) tells me that the 5" is partly for that market and the 4.25 is more for the defense world.

The price difference between this and the C2 is the attraction. Are the two equal? No.
Can the DS 1911 be made to be equal to the Staccato? Yes.
Will the money spent to make the DS1911 equal to the C2 be worthwhile?
    Likely not.
There is a reason the Staccato costs more, there are obvious parts and fitment that justify the costs.

Majority of the issues are coming from the 5” model. Have had 2 out of battery in first mag and with almost 500 rounds through the gun now not a single issue since.

These guns are garbage presently. Yeah your right I didn’t buy a sti. I got a SA prodigy for $1500. I expected it to run just like a $600 glock, $400 Taurus or a $3000 Wilson. If a company produces a product to potentially save your life then it should have the ability to do that OTB. There’s nothing in the manual/on the box that says you must use x type of ammo or the gun won’t work nor does it mention a break in. However I get breaking one in. This gun is marketed to the consumer and also military/LE.At this point they are suited for neither. I ran my 4 inch through 500 depressing rounds day 1. I cleaned and oiled it before first shots.Pistol was filthy out the box. SA left it I guess to make you think it was tested more than the 3 shots they ran. From the first to the last, not one clean mag.FTF, light primer strikes, not in battery, slide hanging on disconnect. It’s a shit show right now. SA has the pistol back so we’ll see. Yes I used all different mags, STI,MBX,duramag and different brand name ammo and grains of all sorts. No HP all ball. Sure they will get it fixed but leaves a stain on SA and makes me think before buying anymore SA products.Good luck everyone. Hope mines the only lemon but it’s not looking good for the masses.

Wow just a spring huh? What about the slide hang ups on disconnecter with out slide lock engaged. Also, fail to return to battery every single shot after 300rds. Then there’s my personal favorite the slide lock up with a live round in the chamber every other mag.
