As a recovering addict who also was in a very big band..it doesn't matter if you are sitting on the curb counting change or sitting in a locker room about to play for 8,000 people at 9pm, the feeling is the same. You never feel right and it's a constant 24/hr loop that is absolute hell. Unless you have this disease, you will never understand. No manager, mom, bandmate can change things.

Dont speak for everyone. I lost my biological brother in 2014. I have my Suspicions that my brother puropsely Died of a speed ball overdose. Because when I woke up in the morning, I noticed he wasn't breathing. I already knew he was dead. Still fucked me up mentally though
I'm surprised more people don't mention Jerry too much when it comes to the bands struggle with substances.

Yes as a life long addict I can resonate with breaking promises to yourself continually about staying clean. It kills the resolve and resilience to stay clean because you lose confidence in your own ability to keep your promises
In the 90s we didn't talk about addiction, it is a very complicated and vicious disease that has taken a lot of people cause we just didn't understand what they were going through. It's always gonna be a tough conversation but someone has to have it. If people can't talk about it, nothing changes.
He might have wanted to stop bro, but when its your goto medicine for when you have pains of the soul its hard stop
Drug addiction seems to have a lot of similarities to mental illness. They both involve negative patterns of destructive behaviour. And both types of behaviour are characterized by deeply embedded synaptic pathways in the brain that are incredibly difficult to break.
Especially after the age of around 25 when your brain is pretty cemented with regards to neurological pathways. I'm 37 and totally suck struggling to break those pathways
I'd argue they are more often than not intertwined with one another. I've never met an addict who didn't struggle with their mental health before their addiction. It is so much more than a physical dependency.
Most addicts have mental health issues (that's putting it mildly)

I don’t mean to be disrespectful but I think Layne was embarrassed of what he had become. His own mom said it to Mike on celebrity rehab. A mother always knows 😇✌️
That’s not disrespectful (I don’t think anyway) when I was in a horrible shape I was completely embarrassed about how I had ended up, knowing people was talking about me or feeling sorry for me just ran me inside and it took forever for me to come back out again. Drugs are just awful, if there was one thing I could change about myself it would be to take the addiction gene out of my brain immediately!!!

I feel for jerry and Sean. I'm an addict my friends are addicts. I try to help my friends when I desperately need help myself. I know where I'm going. Where is Jesus when you need him?
