    Wow..I can't believe a 4 cylinder motor started so easy on 1 cylinder and kept running so well before the others kicked in.Try that nowadays..Great motor and vid..

      I drive an old fuel-injection Volvo four cylinder, and the sound of this Lister engine going from one cylinder to two and three reminded me so much of my engine. When it's just been started in cold weather (or just any old time it wants to make a show of how hard its life is) it just chugs along on one cylinder, then two, then three. Four at idle takes a while.

    Really brings back memories, we have a two cylinder Lister on our island in the Bahamas that we would hand crank and start. It always started no matter how long it sat!💪👌

    I just love those Lister engines ! They,, ( no mater how many cylinders ) were always quick starting engines, I've found. Now this would be the engines I've had from 1 to 3 cylinders, and mine were air cooled.

    It may be an old engine, but it is still a good engine and sounds like new with that nice burn at the exhaust.
    The starter has rhythm of his own at the graceful manner in which he starts it.

      A lot of bullshit answers right here. What actually happens is that the drive pin that engages the slot on the crankshaft, is spring loaded, and flat on the drive side, and sloped on the reverse. So once the engine starts and the crank starts spinning, the sloped back side simply pushes the pin out the way.
      No broken shoulders, hands, thumbs, backs or anything else.

    Was easier to start as 3 of the 4 cylinders had the compression release valves opened thus he only needed to get one cylinder to fire then quickly close the compression release valve to finish the start. Nice work and a great old motor.

    • @RyanGribble
      @RyanGribble 7 років тому +1

      Robert N looks like they all have compression release valves, that's why the momentum of the flywheel want slowed when he stopped cranking
