My biggest complain with the Sonic the Hedgehog movies is that they barely use any of the videogames music, when they have AMAZING themes. I am super glad they actually adapted a bunch of themes from the whole franchise for the Mario movie. I loved it.
That was DEFINITELY one of my biggest complaints as well. I would LOVE for the computers to incorporate the Sonic music from the games into the soundtrack in future movies' soundtracks. They better be taking notes from this!

What surprised me most was the use of Fury Bowser’s theme (18:29). That game only came out in 2021, after the Mario Movie was even announced! I also figured that the movie would mostly focus on legacy content for wide audience appeal. Glad to see they covered all generations of the franchise!!

Was so proud of myself when I listened to the soundtrack and recognised the Luncheon theme. Also, whenever I hear the first bit of the SNES Rainbow Road reference, I always think it feels more like the GBA Rainbow Road music. I know that opening to GBA Rainbow Road is a reference to SNES Rainbow Road anyway, but just not having a beat going through that section makes at least the first part of it feel more like the GBA version to me.

I noticed that throughout the movie there's a main motif based on The Entertainer by Scott Joplin. I initially thought it was from the games too but I'm almost certain it's a reference to that song. I don't know why they would include it in a video game movie though.
The Entertainer did appear in Paper Mario Color Splash, but it’d be surprising to me if this was what it was referencing as this is a paper mario game and not a very liked one. It does have a great soundtrack though

I know! I was the only one out of those that I went to go see it with who had an amazing time with the soundtrack! I have to say that the starman theme, the overworld theme, hammer bros from NSMBWII, MK8 Main Menu and Athletic from SMB3 gave me so much happiness and nostalgia! They were the only ones I knew at the time but still!

Towards the end of The Darklands, the Super Mario World Ghost House theme plays for a bit. It's kinda hard to hear in the middle of the chaos, but the strings really pronounce the repeating patterns that are in the intro of the original song.

I feel so grateful for the Super Mario Movie and for the way it celebrated our beloved game series that has been a staple since a lot of our childhoods.
I love the soundtrack and how it incorporated songs from all over the Mario franchise. The one I don't think really worked all too well and they should've maybe left the original was the Airship theme portion of King of the Koopas. The Airship theme already slaps so hard and I would've liked it better had they kept the Galaxy version.
Bro I noticed almost every single one. Everytime I noticed one, I got so excited! The Mario movie was 10/10 for me. It was beyond my expectations. I can't wait for the second one!

Because that was a weak game with a subpar soundtrack when compared to all other Mario games. There wasnt a scene in the movie that would fit the Sunshine vibe.
Sunshine doesnt really have any connections here, at least Galaxy has a luma here.. and Super Mario World has both the caped Mario and Luigi in the advertisement and Yoshi.

I love that most of the songs were mixups and that’s what made it so unique. The second thing is the music isn’t just the old same music it’s new they made it sound different and modern which a slight remix
At the end of the Athletic themes in "Fighting Tooth and Veil" there's a short reference to Chill from Dr. Mario.

I know! I was the only one out of those that I went to go see it with who had an amazing time with the soundtrack! I have to say that the starman theme, the overworld theme, hammer bros from NSMBWII, MK8 Main Menu and Athletic from SMB3 gave me so much happiness and nostalgia! They were the only ones I knew at the time but still!
In "Superstars", You can hear a little bit of the Ending Theme of the original "Super Mario Bros.".

Towards the end of The Darklands, the Super Mario World Ghost House theme plays for a bit. It's kinda hard to hear in the middle of the chaos, but the strings really pronounce the repeating patterns that are in the intro of the original song.
I knew I heard it too! I can’t wait for the whole movie to be available for everyone to disect. There’s just so many good stuff in it 😩
@@pinkywinky911 Same!! It was so hard to keep up with all of the references and I absolutely adore that fact. For now, at least, all of the musical references can be found with the soundtrack, which was absolutely my favorite part of the movie.

Idc what anyone says, this will always be one of my favorite movies. The music of the Mario games is a huge part of why I love them so much. Hopefully we’ll hear some of the Wonder soundtrack in the supposed sequel!

There’s a few notes of SMB’s underwater theme (when he walks past the Cheep Cheep) and some of SMB3’s card matching theme in Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom. I think we’ll be finding more and more references for years
The underwater theme also plays during Lumalee's introduction (slowed down).
I like how they made such simple songs like super star or underground theme into a really cool song because of generally made them pop out better

I feel so grateful for the Super Mario Movie and for the way it celebrated our beloved game series that has been a staple since a lot of our childhoods.
I love the soundtrack and how it incorporated songs from all over the Mario franchise. The one I don't think really worked all too well and they should've maybe left the original was the Airship theme portion of King of the Koopas. The Airship theme already slaps so hard and I would've liked it better had they kept the Galaxy version.

i loved all the references and the soundtracks being put together so great…i grew up on watching my sister play all the mario games and later on playing them also. my childhood self would be so happy to find out that later on in the years they would make a mario movie

Holly cow, so many iconic music from Mario games and Donkey Kong made it into the film that so awesome.
No Sunshine music? It's outrageous. It's unfair. How do you make a Mario movie and NOT reference Sunshine? Perhaps the archives are incomplete.
Because that was a weak game with a subpar soundtrack when compared to all other Mario games. There wasnt a scene in the movie that would fit the Sunshine vibe.
Sunshine doesnt really have any connections here, at least Galaxy has a luma here.. and Super Mario World has both the caped Mario and Luigi in the advertisement and Yoshi.
At least the vacation business next to Punch-Out Pizza is named Sunshine
