That Power Star Get reference I find too much of a stretch: there's little commonality in the rhythm or relative pitches.

It was so stupid how many people left before the credits were even over. I would have stayed for the music even if I hadn't been expecting a post-credits scene.

It's amazing how much Captain Toad's theme has evolved across three different Mario games: Galaxy, 3D World and then Treasure Tracker.

For the DVD release they should add a version where all the cut music is still used, or at least the seperate scenes as bonus content.
I am cheering for this. Personally, I think that the Take on Me song fit pretty ok in the movie but the others were totally off. I like Thunderstruck a lot, but how many more times should I hear it in a movie? :(

@@pokemon_trainer_isaiah I played the kong driving scene on the entire mario movie vocoded to gangster's paradise on mute with Driving Me Bananas playing in another tab at the same time Take On Me starts. The music is actually perfectly synced with the scene.
The Jungle Hijinx leitmotif hits as soon as the full kong kingdom comes into view, there's a slight bit of suspense when the car swerves suddenly and mario's about to fall out, and then there's a big music build-up while going up the final ramp up until they start to fall and the music cuts out for a second, only for it to come back in a powerful and triumphant orchestral version of the donkey kong country arrangement as the glider opens and it finally comes to a close as they arrive in the hall of the kong army.
Whatever executive decided to replace an orchestral arrangement of a classic theme associated with the scene created to match up perfectly with what's happening on screen with a hollywood song needs better taste
For the ominous piano part it's definitely a reference to deep dark galaxy! I knew the moment I heard it.

Thank GOD Brian Tyler's composition of Superstars made it to the final cut instead of 'Jump.'
It feels more exciting and impactful.
I was already in disbelief about Holding Out For a Hero, I found it made that whole sequence a joke. Jump playing instead of Superstars would have outright ruined the final battle!

this soundtrack made me tear up, all these different mario tracks i was certainly not expecting made orchestral. it was such a blast!
This is the type of music I wanted for the Sonic movies, but the only things I can think of them referencing was Green Hill Zone, the drowning music and a bit of Robotnik's theme from The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. I really hope they step up their game in Sonic 3 after the Mario Movie. If it doesn't at least have 'Live and Learn' in there somewhere I'd consider it a huge missed opportunity
The airship theme actually gave me chills in the theatre
I have to say, if you're going to throw a licensed song, you could... just rearrange Jump Up Superstar and throw it there as if it was an actual song. Not by making references, but just like the DK Rap - as in, completely considering it a song to fill a scene with motivation.

World 1-1 and Driving me Bananas make me so sad that they were cut because they’re such great songs and would’ve enhanced the scenes. To bad they were replaced with the 2 most unfitting licensed tracks in the movie

Just something fun to point out, I love that Platforming Princess it's basically Princess Peach's Theme. Really sounds nice! Especially by 1:10 ooh massive chills.

The Level Complete credit music is a bop, especially the Gusty Garden Galaxy bit.
18:54 - "back in my days rainbow road didn't have rails" made me chuckle.
That was a number 1 for me too.
Rainbow Road was a quite a final level. A bit of a feat to reach, worth it's 'final challenge' status, very climactic track visually and most of all, an amazing musical piece to capture it too.
In the movie, I was wondering if they were doing Mario Kart 3's (Mario Kart Super Circuit's) Rainbow Road which had that segment for its intro before doing it's own thing. It did not. ^.^
Yeah Super Circuit was first to recognize that this part of the OG Rainbow Road music had huge intro potential!
They only needed to do a few but they did _soo_ much more than that.
My favorite is the Mario rap being ripped perfectly from the original TV show
Super Mario 3 was the mario game that I have played the longest time, so when I heard the soundtrack played when Mario got the tanooki suit, I almost cried.
I was already crying lol. That whole sequence got me going and then the rest of the movie just flat out broke me

As a long time Nintendo player and someone who loves music, the work done to incorporate so many musical easter eggs in the movie was one of the best parts of it.
Loved the movie and catching as many references as I could! But there was one musical reference that I kept waiting for and I unfortunately didn't hear: Dire Dire Docks
After watching the video, I started the OST again in Spotify. And just had to laugh loudly. "Peaches" was already heard over 16 million times! :D

Of all the courses in Super Mario Kart (SNES), I listened to Rainbow Road the most from trying to master the course difficulty.
Oh my can I relate to that, I remember how long I took setting a full-speed heavyweight record!
Watching the movie was an experience, from smile to tears picking up every little references that I could recognize, gusty garden galaxy in the credit finishing me and made me almost empty when the screen finally went to black.
To think that most of the theater emptied out as the credits started rolling...
Funny thing is that the "Course Clear Fanfare" is at least fitting for the "Level Complete" song, because that's exactly what it represents in the games 😁😁😁

3:49 I've never gotten past the space junk galaxy when i was a kid playing that game over 11 years ago, but immediately weither my brain realized it or not my heart and soul just knew it was a Super Mario Galaxy level theme, when it started playing my heart felt warm, it felt like my soul was ascending and i began humming it as though I've known it for all my life.. it was such a magical moment, i will never forget that feeling.

I hope someone makes a video like this, but also goes over the composers of the original music. It's already pretty well known that Grant Kirkhope wasn't credited for the DK Rap, but there were a lot of compositions used in the movie that weren't created by Koji Kondo.
Yeah there was a version of this video where I mentioned more composers - and also discussed how this movie and The Last of Us are habilitating game music in TV/film.
But there were just TOO MANY MUSICAL REFERENCES and I pivoted.

This game is to underrated. Nintendo needs to make a new Capitaine Toad game and not the DLC for the Switch
What a great movie musically. I love how they didn't just put in a few references, they really crammed the movie full of references to the original series, and it Just. Sounds. Great. It's not forced, it's bombastic, beautiful and brilliant. It's a love letter to the Mario musical legacy, and too right, because what a legacy. I think the superstar theme at the end battle was my favourite, bar the reference to Gusty Garden Galaxy in the credits which just made me light up to hear the Best VGM Track Ever playing. But I love how the superstar theme really transformed the original reference and made it super.

SNES rainbow road has got to be one of the best. It’s remix is perfect and it’s use is great
I wish I had known that was a rainbow road track before. I heard it and thought, "what's this?" cause I was expecting the N64 theme.
Hearing about how there was original score for the parts with licensed songs makes me hope that we might get an alternate audio track when the Bluray comes out. We want to hear these songs in their proper place.

The choice for the regular music was genius because they were popular when Mario first came out... It was absolutely that best thought process ever.
