I’m building a garage fish room and noticed Jehmco is out of stock on AV4 valves (called and they said won’t be in anytime soon if at all), do you know of a good alternative? Not surprised to see you succeed after watching old videos where it looks like you worked a 12hour shift then came home to film, well deserved.
Informative video. I'm planning out a water change delivery system now and wondering how water tight those AV4 flow control valves drilled into the pvc turned out over time? Did they ever leak at all or would RO tubing and fittings be more reliable? And what water pressure did you use going into the supply line?
Hey, I know this is an ancient video. As a pipe fitter by trade, the “Premium” tape just has a stretchier structure than your cheaper tape. Also, cringed at the drilling with the tap until you said go real slow! I love this, your videos are helping me design my library/animal room.
I have noticed in your store you use the gladiator storage selfs would love to see your take on using them as aquarium rack I use them in my fish room and love the industrial look
How do you treat the water before sending to the tanks? I see in the series how the plumbing is setup for in and out. What I missed is how to prepare the water with heat and treating water with something like Prime.
I kinda like all your automation, however, I don't like drilled tanks...! It has never made sense to me that an aquarium(used) with a hole in it is worth 4 times more than one without a hole drilled into it... at least here in Sarasota, Florida... I'd love to trade my 125g with holes in it for one without any stupid holes...! Anyway, I'm still loving y'alls videos...! Even if some of them are useless to me, I still learn something from all of them...! Keep up your awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today and daily...!
Hi Cory. Thanks so much for all these videos. I am wondering why you chose an on demand drip system instead of a continuous drip system. I am thinking continuous drip for my small fish room but just wondering your thoughts. Thanks again
Hi Cory. Are using 1 inch pipes across the filling system i.e. embedded between the 2x4s on your shelf? I recall from another video you mentioning going larger for the drain. I will find the video later.
Happy days Aquarium CoOp, love the explained videos, and I've been learning how to do and manufacturer many of inventory parts that I couldn't afford, yet I may be a beginner"Hobbyist", still I enjoy saving lots of $$$$, thank you so much....... Salvador Velasquez,
The AV4 air valves are solid brass correct? Brass has copper in it. Have you had any problems with the copper over time leaking into the water and killing inverts? I'm considering building an auto water change system and would prefer to use self tapping valves but all the ones I've seen have been solid brass.
Sorry if this was already explained somewhere, but since the auto-water change water is being pumped from a mag drive in the water tote, how is the tote being filled? Is that automated or done manually? Also wouldn't the mag drive create a lot of pressure in the fill pipe? I don't understand what you mean by a low pressure system. Can anyone explain how that works? I thought mag drives were pretty powerful.
+Matthew Ng I currently am filling the storage tank manually but will automate that process when I move the bin to it's final place. As for the low pressure system. Water pumps meant for aquariums can move a lot of water but with not much pressure. So for instance if you had a pump in a bucket of water and tried to use it to move water up to your roof to spray your roof you'd probably get none. Where if you use your garden hose it would spray just fine because the hose has a much higher PSI. So a normal house might have like 40 PSI of pressure while an aquarium pump has 5 or less. You can buy pumps that can handle more pressure. For like sump pumps for your basement or for ponds etc. But your standard aquarium pump is lower pressure.
Bak when u looked like u actually enjoyed the hobby ,.. & not so much as a job duty like now.. I enjoyed these vids better then the updated tank room with less tanks.. But u gotta do u, & what make u happy and thrive..
I'm sure you've said this before, but for a system like this what kind of water pump do you use for this much water being changed on a daily basis, and what's your head pressure like now that everything is built out, are you still using the same pump?
Thanks for the reply. I didn't thing the tankless heater moved all the water through your system for you. I'm trying to find something powerful enough to push water to a bunch of tanks kind of like what you did.
+JTstuff1 In this video towards the end I address my thoughts one earthquakes. It made laugh, that you asked this while I was uploading the video. ua-cam.com/video/Gx5FmgyHA2Y/v-deo.html
+JTstuff1 I hear ya JTstuff1, if you live in Calif. at least, Earthquakes are no joke. Admittedly, that is always something in the back of my mind being a Northridge EQ survivor.
look up his video on his visits to Ocean Aquariums - its based in Sanfran and its how they do their racks its wild I live in Los angeles but after seeing that I mean why not
+Desmond Harper Well you use a low flow rate. So if you're dripping the water in over 30 minutes or more, the flow is so low. You can use fish screens etc but they can get clogged up and cause a flood. I won't say you'll never lose a fry. But you'll save a lot more fry with clean water than dirty water but never losing a fry down the drain.
+ChaosGeneral1 For lights I'm using Finnex Stingray LEDs. These are the best I've found at a low price point. I use the 48 inch ones over two 20s. Here is a link: amzn.to/1MxHPN2
Hey cory, I was wondering what you actually end up doing for maintenance? Do you just add water to your system and what overflows is your water change? Starting my own store in upstate ny and I'm very interested in the automated systems you're using in your fish room and at the co op. I'm trying to run the place all on my own to start, so having a system like the ones you feature would ease my work load exponentially. Been binging the most relevant videos of yours I can find for opening a fish store, but there's so many its hard to know if I'm missing any major ones or not! They've been so helpful, thank you so much!
Still not clear how the water goes all the way from water outlet into the bucket and from there to the aquariums. Cant i do it directly from water outlet without bucket directly into the tubes and from there to the aquariums? Why the bucket between?
+Adlerauge Wissenschaft well for me I wanted to gas off the chlorine and heat the water up. Now that I've installed a tankless water heater and a whole house filter I bypass the holding tank
11/32nd drill bit made me laugh. Love the video and really helpful but try using metric (like the rest of the world except the US, Liberia and Myanmar) for just a month. I also thought the same when you were trying to work out water volumes in another video. Something a child could easily do in metric in their heads, but it's far more complex in Imperial.
How are you calculating how much water is changed per day? I would love to see a more in depth explanation on how the tanks are filled. This video contained mostly footage of you tapping a line which is pretty self explanatory but left out many other aspects. Also a follow up video with how you fill your totes now automatically would be appreciated.

The whole intro you never blinked. Haha. I love your videos.
Awesome video Cor... I’ve always wondered how to do this kind of a job thank you your channel is the best!!! Thank you much love and aloha🤙🏽🐠🤙🏽
Sounds good Jason I'm eager to see the results great video

Studio looks good, interesting drip system, looking forward to seeing it in action.

I haven't tried tanks on the gladiator shelves, only the cheaper costco/home depot in store racks, they bow a bit when under load, but still usable.
How do you treat the water before sending to the tanks? I see in the series how the plumbing is setup for in and out. What I missed is how to prepare the water with heat and treating water with something like Prime.
Keith Franklin I’m sure he uses liquid prime

Cory, you look exhausted! XD
Great video, what’s that material used to cover the tanks, some sort of polymer lids? Looks just like what I am looking for.
I was hoping to see a "from scratch" video. Do you have any of those? I'm doing a 1st time set up.
Hi Cory. Thanks so much for all these videos. I am wondering why you chose an on demand drip system instead of a continuous drip system. I am thinking continuous drip for my small fish room but just wondering your thoughts. Thanks again
+ribs1 it's hard to regulate down far enough to continually drop on a hundred tanks.
Hi Cory. Are using 1 inch pipes across the filling system i.e. embedded between the 2x4s on your shelf? I recall from another video you mentioning going larger for the drain. I will find the video later.
Yes, and 2 inch abs for the drain.

+ArsenalOfColor Aquatics these are nickel plated, but haven't had any issues with inverts myself
Thanks I plan on calling JEHMCO and talking to a rep about their suggestions. I've been told they have excellent customer service from friends.
With an auto water change system like this do you need to use a pressure regulator at all?
Depends on the system you set up. I’ve used pressure regulators and not, with my latest system not using one

I have a question how do you keep fish especially fri from going down the drains

Aquarium Co-Op in german ,,hebeanlage,, aka ,,kondensathebeanlage,, is going to help me out.
Its a pump with that gets started by a floater. Just like youre white kubik canister but vice versa

just do it yourself , go to inplix page and turn your idea to reality.
