I love this.♥️❤️🌹 Yellow split peas, coconut milk, garlic, onion, thyme, as salt, tumeric, scotch bonnet/ wiri wire peppers and rice. Recently I found that adding smoked mackerel from Tesco is delicious. ❤️♥️🌹then fry some garlic and whole cumin seeds and throw on top after cooking. Yummy.
Meat was not a staple .I made this dish friday and my brother in law made roasted tomato choka man it was delicious .Thanks for showing this dish waiting for the saltfish version!!!!
Please let the rice and seasoning saute for a while, then put in the peas, saute for a few seconds then put the water and coconut milk, .and mix properly, then cover and put the fire very very slow...do not stir constantly because that makes the dish to soggy. Its supposed to be light, fluffy and grainy..
I love mixed rice dishes, this one in particular. However every time I make it comes out not grainy but the other form😩. Going to follow the exact steps to see if I get it like yours
I grew up eating this until I couldn’t stand it as an adult. So one day I didn’t know what to cook and I made this and wouldn’t you know it, my family fell in love with it. Hear nah I cringed when they said that. However, it goes well with some roast tomato choka
Will try to include some more vegan recipes. Unfortunately I won’t be doing any cow heel soup since I don’t eat it... I used to but had a bad experience when I was a kid and never ate it since that
Please I wish you can call turmeric powder or Hardee /haldi powder by its correct name.. Saffron and saffron powder is a whole other thing... Especially when we have videos open to the international community... Just a suggestion
Different parts of the world has different names for the same thing! This is Trinidadian cooking and it’s an ingredient that was passed down by that name. No need to nit pick the video ingredient here with your negative comment, trying to sound smart. Since you know the spices correct name, please link us with your video since you have time to comment. Caribbean people know what “saffron” is!

you did not mention if the rice is cook before you add it to the pot ?
No it isn’t cooked before... it’s cooked with the split peas in the coconut milk and other ingredients.
Please let the rice and seasoning saute for a while, then put in the peas, saute for a few seconds then put the water and coconut milk, .and mix properly, then cover and put the fire very very slow...do not stir constantly because that makes the dish to soggy. Thanks for sharing... believe it or not thought I don’t like grainy rice at all... so for me this has to be ‘wet’ rather than grainy
Thank you I am doing it now
angel samuel awesome!
What do yellow split pea taste like is there another veggie close to the taste?
I love mixed rice dishes, this one in particular. However every time I make it comes out not grainy but the other form😩. Going to follow the exact steps to see if I get it like yours
The amount of liquid added will determine how grainy it comes out… don’t add a lot at a time
Its NOT safran powder thats turmeric powder / or haldi powder or kurkuma . Safran is a flower string. Am going to make this today. Thank u
In Trinidad they call turmeric safron
We call it saffron in trinidad
Cooking this today.

Can you use green split peas?
I honestly have never used it but It should be ok... you can maybe add some saffron powder for the color
Am adding tomato chokka on the side with some mustard oil amchar
U didnt say if the rice was boil
no it wasn't boiled before
I grew up eating this until I couldn’t stand it as an adult. So one day I didn’t know what to cook and I made this and wouldn’t you know it, my family fell in love with it. Hear nah I cringed when they said that. However, it goes well with some roast tomato choka

Reallyyy! I love that combo 😋😋
Made this all the time in Trini, with the addition of okra.
Guyanese also put channa in it too I think. It does taste good.
Really? Didn’t know that one… I might try it sometime!
I do not want to sound intrusive but show us more vegan dishes and a coe heel soup please
Will try to include some more vegan recipes. Unfortunately I won’t be doing any cow heel soup since I don’t eat it... I used to but had a bad experience when I was a kid and never ate it since that
As simple as it is, I keep forgetting the method.
Sorry that dish don't have coconut
Please I wish you can call turmeric powder or Hardee /haldi powder by its correct name.. Saffron and saffron powder is a whole other thing... Especially when we have videos open to the international community... Just a suggestion
Barbara Shyama Lee Chong thanks for the feedback!

Also the name on the video is clearly labeled “Trinidad cooking/ Caribbean “ so with your international bs… keep it to your part off the world…
This is NOT how to make kitchri!🤦🏼♀️
