OMG. Turn that around so you can see it in the cabinet. What a find.
Great idea!!!!!!!
Absolutely beautiful. ❤ it. Please Stay Safe, Happy And Healthy. Have A Wonderful Day. What a beautiful victrola .
I really love the commentary on furniture. It's great to get a perspective on antique furniture from someone that knows what they're looking at, and more importantly, that appreciates them.
Thank you. I’m no expert but I sure love old furniture.
Love the back!!
Maybe the top of the crate was damaged so they used what was still good. So cool that you, as someone who loves old radios, found it!
I was hoping that was the case too. Maybe it was damaged when the crate was opened.
@@ksk5664 tbf, the woman probably didn't know the value before.
Pretty sunset🧡
Dear Scott, Re-watching this nearly 3 yrs after you had originally posted it (it came up in my YT sidebar recommended videos) was a lovely trip down memory lane and reinforced my respect and admiration for you and our shared love of antique furniture, etc... I've been here since early 2019 and it's been an incredible journey for you, and for us too... I hope that in the new year you will have the time to produce more restoration videos, deep dives and general education videos similar to this one. Lots of love and thank you!
I absolutely loved this video, the beautiful antique furniture and the wonderful Sunset, Thank You Scott...♥️
The bookcase is fantastic! Can you imagine if these antiques could talk?! Oh, what stories they could tell!
Aloha! Lovely bookends! So cute!
Antique furniture is my favorite 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Your lessons are always a fresh breath of air. Thanks for keeping us grounded in the things that we all have an interest in. The knowledge you share always carries a price tag of priceless. Thanks for making life a joy.
Rickey how kind. Thank you so much.
Scott, I have a cabinet that looks very much like your bookcase that was built by a great grandfather, I think. Mine doesn't have glass; it has wooden doors, and the two drawers are at the top. It was called a safe by my mother's family. At one time I think it was painted, but my mother had it refinished; it has different pulls.
This is my all time favorite vlog you've ever made! When you slowly showed the back of the bookcase my jaw hit the floor. Seriously. What really made this vlog so special is to hear someone else talk about their love of antique furniture. I've been waiting nearly 2 years for you to
really express your love and admiration of the wood and craftsmanship. Thank you Scott from the bottom of my heart.
Furniture my first love!
Love the bookcase, don't hear the argument, good to have you back.
Love the bookcase!!!!! Love the sofa table!!!! Love all the information!!!! Love your channel!!!!👵💖🦋
What a lovely surprise on your lovely bookcase 🌹
I adore antique furniture!
Oh, how I need that bookcase- the perfect size.
This video was quite informative.
More of the same please! 😊
I love small bookcases!
I can definitely see Tallulah Bankhead in the Angel figurine. I love the furniture you shared with us!
Tallulah or Garbo
Very thorough content as always! I agree to leave the age on that book case!
I just love an old finish!
LOVE this bookcase. Home made, yet the way the doors fit together....
Thank you for sharing the beautiful furniture, I loved it.
Sweet! I'll bet those side panels are more of that old crate! I wonder if there are faint hints on the inside walls? I have a side table my grandpa built to hold my mom's dollhouse. He built it from piano parts. The front curves down from the front door cause he used the key cover😊. They were so thrifty back in the day. Today things get tossed and we have become a nation of consumers instead of producers. A sad state of affairs. Love to see these old pieces saved and cared for. TFS!
I love the cabinet you picked up and what a bonus to have that backing on it. Gorgeous sunset!
Glorious sunset.Thank-you for all the variety you put into your vlogs.
Glad you enjoyed it
Scott can you please deliver this all to my doorstep!!?? Beautiful!!!
That bookcase was a fabulous find !
Gorgeous sunset ✨✨✨✨
Very cool cabinet! Love the back too! Great bonus!
Could you sometime talk about the care of antique furniture? How to properly restore the wood. Just simply things like covering scratches. How to properly care for it during the years we share our lives with it.
Sure! I hope to have my own workshop in the not too distant future and I can’t wait to produce restoration videos!
Volunteering at the Habitat for Humanity and have been cleaning dirty furniture with Murphys Oil Soap and Old English polish. Most donations are laminated, heavily scratched, poorly painted. But, then there are items that are
Partially stripped bare wood. It is amazing to see the variety of sizes of chairs. Agree, more information on caring for your favorite pieces would be appreciated. Thank you.
Sweet find. I haven't found a Victor packing yet, but have been looking for years. Figure most went into the furnace.
Love the back of the bookcase! And thank you for acknowledging that a woman might have made that cabinet as well as a man!
Gorgeous bookcase and nice added bonus on the back :)
Wow it's beautiful, I can see myself taking that and making a dollhouse out of it, those shelves are perfect and the glass doors even better. I love thriftshop, yardsales etc, always looking for miniature dollhouse stuff.
I really enjoyed seeing the bookcase with the great surprise on the back - how serendipitous! (She does look like Tallulah, I think it's the heavy eye lids!)
Yeah I’m not crazy!
The bookcase is a wonderful find and especially at that price. The pink kerosene lamp base was awesome. I need to come up there for vacation and bring a u haul with me to carry everything home that I find.
Omgeeeeee!!!!!! I just found your channel and I am BINGE WATCHING!! Not only are you so knowledgeable, but your intro and the little “extras” that you put in just take me to another world. Thank you for all of the work that you put into this. It relaxes me and just makes my heart happy!
Thank you so much!! I'm thrilled that you found me!
Every video you show there is something in it that I get interested in collecting. (LOL)
Oh so fun! I *love* your _new_ bookcase! 👏🏻
Oh I love the cabinets
Love, love, love the bookcase. My mother has a library table similar to the one you showed that she inherited from my grandmother. The top tilts for some reason.
The book case is gorgeous with it's radio history. GREAT VIDEO AND GREAT CONTENT. THUMBS-UP ALWAYS!!!!!
I just bought an beautiful antique dresser with bevelled mirror & lots of ornate wooden scrollwork. Found an old newspaper behind the mirror with the date August 15, 1900 ! 😮
Love antique furniture!!! Thank you!!!
You are so welcome!
More more more on furniture of the 20's and 30's. I loved each item. I loved that chair, too. I have a walnut table that sits 12 with legs that are like your library table. It has 4-5 leaves and the way the two sides slip apart, massive wooden mechanisms, is genius. I also have a chest of drawers from the same period. I am trying to save as many really good pieces before diy gets to them. Restore has some.
That is awesome!
Wonderful vid! Oh how I miss those Philadelphia thrift stores (and fleas), which I haunted back in the 80s and 90s when I lived there. Here in NYC, such finds at those prices are few and far between. Guess it’s just as well since we New Yorkers are space compromised. But your vids take me back to those lush years: finding neat old things, and for cheap, in West Philly, the Northeast, Kensington and Germantown. So many treasures, so much fun! Thanks, as usual, for the charming vid.
Thank YOU, Nancy!!!!!!!!!!
WOW...
WONDERFUL !!! ❤️
That bookcase was definitely made for you to find. I smiled all the way through this. Yes, the angel was very Tallulah Scott. “ I’m ready for my close up Saint Peter” 😇♥️🐩
I love it!
I love older furniture like this, I haven’t come across one with drawers though. The backing with Victrola was amazing. This would be my dream find at $50.
Oh! More furniture, please!
wow, really beautiful furniture!!
Good evening Scott 💓
I love it when you show furniture! I am a fool for ALL cabinets! I have no more room, but that bookcase would be an exception! Wonderful video and as always great to see you! Be safe!
Oh thank you!
I learned so much today from your video…you are a superb teacher! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video. I loved the library table, such a bargain.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Greetings Scott!
I like the bookcase you purchased.
A great find! As always thanks for your videos. 😊
Hi Garland!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like the book case it’s really nice thank for showing it you got very good deal
I didn't know RCA had a manufacturing plant in Camden NJ. I thought it quite innovative how the maker of that book case repurposed the Victrola crate.
Oh yes Camden New Jersey what is the home city for the victor talking machine company which didn’t merge with RCA until 1929.
Love the bookcase…
11k2yrs😊 Gorgeous piece, 📚 ✌️😎🩷🌍 Blessings
Thanks for sharing.
what a fascinating find on the back of that cool 1920s bookcase! Ironically, the Victor taking machine pictured in the classic logo tanked about 1925 and Victor sold off as many horned players as possible hence the need for a myriad crates. Nice little bonus treasure to be found on this bookcase. 😉
OH yes! The Christmas season of 1925 had some amazing new innovations with electrical recordings and the new orthophonic machines. I am sure you already knew that!
@@oldcuriosityshop265 yes! the orthophonics became the rage and shortly there after...the world of RADIO exploded!
Love the book case…that is a great size 👍😊
I have a bookcase almost exactly like that one. My great grandfather made it. I use it to display things from their home...glassware and pottery pieces. I really like the back on the one you found. Nice find.
You treasure it I’m sure!
I just found your channel. Absolutely love your content! Can't wait to catch up on your past episodes. Great job!
Awesome! Thank you and so glad you found me!
Nice find
Your videos are great! 😃
Thank you!!!
I find old furniture very interesting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Did you get the radio. It is beautiful to look at the way it is. Hopping you made some great purchases but I only saw your beautiful bookcase in the truck. ? ? ? 👍💕
No, I did not purchase the phonograph cabinet.
Amazing...
Wow
👍👍🎃🎃🍀🍀💕💕Love the bookcase
Thank you! I’ve been trying to find ANY info on the finish of one of my dressers that’s been in my bedroom for decades. And I was so curious about the bumpy texture wondering what is it, can I clean it? Condition it? It kind of rips up the cloth I wipe it down with so it’s only been dusted since idk what to do. No one really lived in this house since the 80’s, and my great grandfather and grandpa built this house around the 30’s so when I moved in and started cleaning out the desk in my bedroom, I found children’s homework from the 30’s & 40’s with names of great aunts I never got to meet. I’ve been trying to identify and find more info on several furniture pieces in my home since I’m pretty sure nothing has been bought after the late 70’s. I just know this house was built in the 30’s, they were poor, but built this house out of materials they were able to salvage from houses/buildings they’ve demolished. Learned a lot about porcelain door knobs and the lock mechanism being on the outside of the door, so some of the materials are older than others. Mixed materials/hardware, etc. from their modern to their version of outdated and fancy luxury pieces to home made bespoke pieces. It’s quite a mix.
So anyway I have no idea if someone made the dresser and desk, if someone found it, bought it? Everything in my home is a constant antique I’m trying to identify it seems haha. Fun, but it drives me nuts when I can’t find answers.
Thankyou
even your skyline looked like autumn
Oh Talulah!
The Music 🎶🎵🎼🙏✝️☮️🩷💋😇🎸🎤🎹🥁🎷 🎺
My parents have a console table similar to that one. The legs look just like it. However, theirs is not expandable. Beautiful. I think I need to call dibs on that piece of furniture.
You can’t help but wonder if the very top of the 2 door bookcase - or the stationary shelves - are the missing top piece of the shipping crate.
Actually the shipping crate wood is a very wood from the rest of the cabinet. But wouldn't that have just been super cool!
Love that bookcase. What are you going to do to the top? How did you get it upstairs to your condo? I hope you bought the sofa table. It was wonderful.
I have not moved it yet and the top will be gently cleaned, given a wipe down with scratch cover and then a nice coat of wax.
Your post of the cobalt teapot. If I had seen the "hook" in time I could have answered my own question. It is a Hall teapot.
The tea pot is actually made by Redwing and known as the "Saturn" by collectors.
U can say he when referring to who made it in the 1920’s im assuming!
Hi Scott wht ya fixing now
😎 Dude 😊
Yes...Tallulah!
Yes dahling!
I had a similar cabinet bookcase that my neighbor gave me. After awhile I gave it to my daughter in law and sadly she no longer wanted it and threw it in a dumpster! 😞
Um…..how sad 😥
It's turning 10:23 😊✝️☮️✌️😎🍯🐝🎼🎵🎶🙏🩷🤓
You know a man built that book case!
awwww to bad they didn't cut from the bottom of the crate.. what a awesome find, I love little histories to a piece, makes them that much more special.. I don't mind the old shellac, but I have a 1892 gothic revival armoire, I'm restoring, that sat in a cat infested continual damp basement and smells like a bona fide corpse, I had to remove it from my shop to the garage it stunk up the whole place.. I have to restore it, it smells so horribly bad I don't have a choice but to strip and redo the shellac, after a good dose of odor reducing clear primer on its unstained bits. I have tried every other option from spraying with vodka, vinegar, charcoal, baking soda, cedar oil, and sunshine for weeks to no avail.. I don't want to paint it and have spent countless hours sanding details by hand.. but If I cant get the smell out? paint might be my only option..sadly!
Yes in some cases the old finish simply can’t be restored.
@@oldcuriosityshop265 As you know armoire's are not popular with the big closets homes have now.. so I'm repurposing this to a liquor cabinet, because booze is still popular.. lol
I still would remove that and replace it. Still nice
I’m guessing that VV 8-30 Victrola was “upgraded” circa 1947 with the tube amp and a Webster Chicago changer back when the original acoustic parts were seen as “outdated junk” this was commonly done during the 1930s-1960s before this stuff was seen as collectible. Even with vintage console radio phonograph combos were upgraded to 3 speed changers when they came out. I have a Magnavox radio from 1946 that had the changer upgraded circa 1950. But at least it still looks like it belongs with the radio. it’s kinda jarring when you find a radio phono console from the 1940s and the original 78 rpm only record changer is replaced is a BSR turntable from the 1970s it looks so out of place!
Oh yes I totally agree. I see so many "upgrade" jobs when I'm out looking at radios, phonographs etc.

I thought the legs looked homemade.
Good eye!
Usually “up cycling “ makes me cringe, however, those 45 Dollar beds could surely be repurposed?
Repurposed? I would hope someone would actually use them as beds and not cut them up and cover with chalk paint. 😮
@@oldcuriosityshop265 AMEN!
Why would you repurpose a perfectly good bedstead? Just use it as a bed!
@@danielulz1640 I have to second that motion, Daniel.
@@oldcuriosityshop265 I totally agree...I would use them as beds...absolutely..that chalk paint has gotten totally out of hand..that was the point I was trying to make..I guess my communication skills are lacking😟
