Hi Rachel! Thank you a million times over for your content! I worked 26 years at the USPS and have been a reseller for 20+ years, but it was YOU that taught me about folding the bottom of the Flat Rate envelopes! I wanted to let you know that you can also fold the tops of those envelopes, which I have been doing for more than 5 years. I am the ONLY seller on eBay (well, up until now, anyways 😂) that sells 3- 15oz cans of pumpkin and Squash with free shipping. Girl, I can make THREE CANS for into that flat rate PAPER, not padded, envelope! Lol! You're the bomb,Rachel, and PLEASE don't ever stop living out your faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ boldly on your channel! God's given you this unique platform. Make it count for the Kingdom! ❤️🙏🥰🙌
Wow thank you! I know sometimes we think compliments in our minds but don't say them out loud. Your taking time to write such a kind message really is impactful in a social space that can be riddled with negative comments at times. Thank you! And now I wanna see 3 cans in that envelope! 😆
It's amazing that you're mentioning mattress padding. The most unlikely things can be used for padding to protect your items. That artist signed and framed lithograph that's been sitting in my inventory for three months was just sold today. I was still mulling over how I was going to ship it without breaking and asking God "What am I going to do? Where am I going to get decent shipping material for that litho?". Then as I'm heading out to pick up my daughter, I see a carpet installer loading a bunch of used carpet padding into his van. I slammed the brakes and did a 180 right back to that house and he seemed scared at first that I was running up to him. I explained the situation and he gave me two rolls of 30'x4' outright. This is enough for ten or fifteen of these framed lithos! I've got enough here for a hundred fragile things and all for free! Never underestimate the power of God to answer even the smallest requests, or the power of free stuff falling in your lap. :)
I've been shipping breakable items for 2 years with great success and didn't know some of these hacks. Thank you. I look for clean, foam mattress pads at estate sales where you can typically get a queen or full for a few dollars. I always wrap the item(s) in new packing paper first before wrapping in the used mattress pad as I once received a piece of Blenko from an eBay seller wrapped in old, yellow foam from a sofa/chair cushion. It was effective, but kind of gross and left a film on the glass. Thanks for your info (from another Midwestern reseller).
Mattress topper is a great hack! I just shipped 2 separate 10 piece china set in a long medium flat rate box - I had extras in case they broke! They survived across the country from Illinois to California!!!! I was so excited 🎉🎉🎉🎉 it was 2 five place setting including the coffee cups 😅 yeah it was amazing packing and super quick too!
Every day I make sure to watch one of your videos so I can get a great attitude going in to my day and Treat My Business As My Business. Your bubbly enthusiasm is so inspiring! Yes, I’m a subscriber. I’m in California, so any leg up on shipping I can get is truly a godsend.
I love your videos and willingness to share your thoughts, stories and advice! I have already saved money by using the foam from walmart you mentioned. Thank you so much!! ❤
Wow, I really DID learn something today, The folding technique was excellent, if I have a heavy item going into a flat rate envelope, I first tape tape the sides and bottom seams with the wide Bay tape, it helps a lot. You are always a such a pleasure to watch Rachel, and I'm STILL listing differently now after your keyword video, that was AMAZING content and I also experimented with it as you did and it really does work, have a blessed day, from Christine
Thank you for showing how to make a box out of the envelope. I reinforce the folds, edges, of the envelope with tape. Using egg carton foam is fantastic! Drew is a great sport! You have a very bright son!
I'm sure this works so I'll get some foam. Problem that i can see is the amount of space that would be required to ship 4 or 6 goblets. I ship alot of plates too and this idea will be useful. Thanks!
I've actually used mattress pads before, it's great to find them at yard sales flea markets etc. I also occasionally post on Facebook looking for them. Another great "sponge" to use is sleep number bed foam. Very dense. Makes a great little cocoon for breakables.
Rachel, you are a genius! Your #1 tip is fantastic and I'm picing up some toppers tomorrow. More importantly, I HAVE to tell you how gorgeous your hair looks! It looks strong and silky and so healthy! I've enjoyed all the transitions you've had with your hair, but this style is def a fave! You are a walking ad for Dyson, LOL.
You make learning fun!! 🎉 You and Drew are such a cute couple!! How fun your trip to the stadium and playground looked!!! I’m gonna have to try the Walmart mattress pad hack!! BTW… just ordered one of your “treat your business like your business” ornament! Keep up the great work and content pretty lady! 🏆🥇
Bravo!👏🏻 Practical information beautifully wrapped in an entertaining package. The showmanship of this video…it’s like you were born to be on UA-cam. “Cloak of discount”😂.
Hang tag from your rear view mirror can get you a citation as it obscures your vision when driving. But I am sure you can talk yourself out of a ticket. LOL!
A few times I have thrown packages against a wall to see if it would break. I’d rather it break before I send it than after ! Thanks for sharing. I always find some tidbit takeaway from every video. Sincerely, Robin
hi rachel - new sub here, who made my first comment below, which you were so kind to answer. (about shipping a potato chip!) i'm rewatching this awesome video again, b/c i now have your fab wally world sleeping pad, and will pack my crystal as you suggest. but my new question has to do with your #4 tip - floating a box w/in a box. which totally makes sense! what doesn't, for me, is how do i deal with that in my listing? right now, 'cause i'm a bit of a noob - i package up each item as i list it, including a 'standard' amount of packing materials that i think will be necessary, then i remove that packing, close the box without sealing, and store them up a wall...with a sticky note on the outside telling me what it is. in this way, i can get pretty realistic shipping charges. yes, it's clunky. yes, i'd rather "do" something else, i just don't know what! so with your music box, i would have to repeat my procedure twice, before i am able to figure out shipping. and now i'm thinking, you might not charge for shipping? not sure. but how do you "estimate" shipping in a double, floated box, like the music box, when you list? i'm so weary of this...can you help? thanks so much! cheers from libby in utah
I promise the shipping does get easier. It's to the point now, where I can look at an item and just about guess how much it's going to cost that being said, I live in Missouri and am equidistant from either coast. Shipping from Missouri is a lot cheaper than if you live For instance, in Florida or the Northeast or even in California in those circumstances, calculated shipping may be your best option. I would take a look at the size the box will need to be for the item and then add an extra 3 inches either direction. So 6 inches total to make that box larger at minimum. Use that for your calculated shipping price or your dimensional weight in your listing. Does that make sense?
Hi Rachel and Drew! Great tips--thank you! Rachel, I mentioned before that you are a Ray of Sunshine" Drew you are so funny! Drew you should make more "Cameo" appearances with Rachel on her video. LOL. I have not seen you in a while your beard looks great short!
I’ve been subscribed for years ❣️ Rachel and Drew you are too funny!! This was a great video to watch and learn from you! I still use your straw hack when fitting my items in a tight fitting bag 👍 Thanks Again!! Happy New Year 🎈
I use PS i jusr wish they had QR codes, as a beginner business owner i dont have a lot of money to put up, so i dont have a printer and use the QR code. Your 4th tip was a huge eye opener when i first saw a reseller put a box in a polymailer like why didnt i ever think of that!!
@@RachelStrickland ohh my goodness!! That has helped me so much before i had to go to the print shop, but they were really cool and hooked me up alot, its good to get out this job will keep you in. Thats a real bummer!! Bc it really helps save on ink and my mailman says he prefers it!
Love the idea of using pieces of the foam mattress pad to protect fragile items, but wondering if it’s practical to use when shipping several glasses together. Do you still wrap each individually? Love you channel and have a faithful subscriber! 😁
It's been a week and she hasn't answered, but I think you can separate the individually wrapped items with cardboard. Might need to use smaller pieces of the foam, but still big enough for a total wrap. I've done that before with bubble wrap and am going to try it with some foam. I wrapped each item (only 2 total) in bubble wrap and then cut cardboard and wrapped each item with it, then added paper to the shipping box. I put the items on top and paper all around, in between and on top so there was no movement when it was taped closed and I shook it. Gonna try it with foam now!
That is freaking unbelievable. That looks like some mid-century Czech glass that I had and shipped. And somehow it got there safely but I have never tried these strategies.
I strictly use the USPS flat rate packaging you showed but all the rates that you mentioned have gone up for example the bubble mailer today I used it was 10.95
Wow I've been selling for 5 years now and never thought of the foam. Thanks for the info. You know how much time I spent shipping dish sets. Wrapping each piece x 5 layers. It got there safely. But I assured myself I would never buy glass again after the time it takes. Now I'm rethinking everything. 🤯🤯🤯 I literally use those foam mats all the time just bought 4 to keep my special needs toddler out of pain when on the floor where he spends most of his time. I just use UPS or FedEx to ship breakables now. Idk why it never dawned on me, so I did learn something and appreciate you sharing. ❤I wish I would have had this when I shipped this very cool large I mean like 24x24x24 whale plate and mugs to Alaska. It took me so long to package it to use USPS. This would have saved me so much time. Thanks for testing it all out. Love you and your channel.
I get my priority mail boxes free from usps.com 99.9% of the rest are free that friends save for me. The uline boxes in this video, my friend who works at the hospital, saved me like 100 of them! If I need a huge box I pick one up at walmart.
Great tips! Can you do a video (or have you done one?) on how to use Pirate Ship? I don't understand it at all. If you list something on eBay with USPS Priority shipping, and then it sells, can you use Pirate Ship to ship with USPS Priority? Or do you choose Pirate Ship or something else when you list it?
I have the same question about changing the carrier. I've been just listing the item as ground advantage only (I never give the 2nd option for priority) and then when the item sells I only use pirate ship if it can beat the ground advantage delivery date! I also put a small note in my listings that delivery carrier is subject to change but always within promised delivery times. I don't know if I'm handling this correctly!
Rachel, Do you have any advice on selling a large collection? My mother recently passed and I'm trying to help my Dad organize, donating what we can clothes wise but my Mom has a large Coach and Dooney collection. hundreds. I've started an eBay account and posted 5 but I can tell this is going to be a long process. Was thinking maybe posting pics, boxing it up, marking the box and just waiting it out. if there was some way to bulk sell even 5-10 at a time it would help speed up the process. I did make 1 ebay posting with a 'bundle' of similar pattern (bonnie sig) but again, barely any hits. I've also added the promoted option(2%). any help is appreciate. Love the videos, everything I never thought I'd know about purses lol. My mom would be laughing!
Wow. A large collection Like that, I feel like you would be best to either sell wholesale to a reseller or sell on whatnot. This comment and our replies will end up buried. If you have INstagram, I'd love to to see her collection if yoh could DM me there I'm rachelstricklandofficial
I just spent over $25.00 to ship a cookie jar from Florida to someone in California, I lost money on that sale. But, what would have been a cheaper way to ship a fragile item that needed a medium size box?
Shipping from Florida is crazy high. I'd try fed ex or ups but they may be just as high for your location. You can always set your listings to "calculated shipping"
Thank you so much for this FABULOUS video. I am so happy I found your channel a couple weeks ago. In fact I purchased the Vivitar Pistol Grip Tripod off your link and bluetooth remote (found one) last night after watching that video. The Tripod was delivered today!!! I will make sure I have Pirate Ship hooked to my eBay store. I sure could have used it a couple weeks when I shipped a glass item. I only charged $13 and it was $16 to ship... I have used the small Priority Mail Box 1096L which will also fit into that same envelope. I also tape the sides just to make sure it holds. But now that I know this trick with the bottom, it will make it much easier to do so. I learned this a couple years ago from another UA-camr.. I'm also in the Midwest... Supposed to get a snow storm tonight into tomorrow... But since I am now a full time reseller, it does not stress me and I will just list away!!
If they smaller box with crystal made it why would you think the bigger box with floating box inside wouldn't? How much do you charge for handling on something like 4 dinner plates?
Oddly, i don’t use PS that much, mostly personal mail or occasionally when the price is a big difference. But have heard other sellers racking up points / miles like a southwest air visa for free flights.
hi - just found you - hope you get this message. so those red goblets you were kicking and dropping - look to be fairly stout to me to begin with. i just purchased some Mikasa Kensington Frosted Stem Crystal Water Goblets (at an unbelievable deal) but they are soooo fragile - the crystal is sooooo thin! kinda wishing you had tested something like this, rather than something with a heavy weight to it...have you tried it with the super fragile goblets? do you think it would still work? feeling doubtful... :0( but really appreciate the vid - thank you.
I once shipped a potato chip using this method. It was a bubbled-up potato chip. I mailed if from missouri to Atlanta GA. I have 2 or 3 videos on the channel where I use this method. I used it to ship $600 in vintage dishes from MO to CA. recently I used it shipping a murano glass vase. Ever handle Christopher Radko blown glass ornaments? They're about as fragile as egg shells. I've shipped them all the way to Hawaii using this method. I always appreciate when folks want to know more and have questions. You can take this packing method to the grave.
I use those flat rate envelopes for most of my jeans. I tape the entire opening, all the corners, and I tape any spot where the envelope gets wrinkled/bent once it's sealed. I haven't had any complaints from buyers about rips or damage. Hopefully that helps
I really don't think anyone knew what they were doing when they told you to think outside the box lol. I see that origami is paying off. Seriously great information thanks for sharing. Now you and Drew stop playing around and get back to work 😂😂
9:16 Dear Rachel, another great video but I had to stop it when you said “hang it from the rear-view mirror” 😱. That is the only dumb thing you’ll probably ever say (or have said). Dangling anything from the rearview mirror of the car (unless it’s just parked like at a car show, and it’s for decoration) is extremely dangerous. It’s not only constantly distracting you by moving around and messing with your peripheral vision - even if you’re not looking at it directly (distracted driving), it’s there, CONSTANTLY jiggling & swinging around)..causing a distraction, but - much, much worse - it creates, an constantly changing “blind spot”, and I’ve been a professional driver, my whole life at one point I drove clients to a mental health facility, one of whom had been in an almost fatal car wreck because of a blind spot involving her car’s rear- mirror, and she suffered severe brain damage from an avoidable situation. A third reason is I think it’s not legal. That should be the least concerning reason. I just don’t want you or anyone on the road getting injured because of doing something so seemingly innocuous and innocent. Anyway, that’s my “rant”. Please don’t hold it against me and even if you don’t pay heed, I hope someone else reading this will. Thanks. Now back to your great video.🤑🥳😜

I challenged you on the cost of shipping an item in bubble vs mattress pad once. Turns out I was wrong and you were right! Best shipping hacks ever! 😘
Thanks Mary! It really can be more cost effective than we first think.
I absolutely did enjoy this video. Nicely done, and the mattress pad hack is pure gold!
Love your priority paper envelope hack. Saw it in one of your videos last year and use it all the time! Thanks Rachel

Brilliant!!
I love pirate ship. To ship a 10 lb box to my son in Beijing at the UPS store, cost was $350, on Pirate Ship it was $75.
Wow that's awesome!

are you paying the counter rate? be sure you are paying on ebay or pirateship.com and they are waaaaay cheaper. pirateship.com is free to use.
That is exactly how I ship most of my watches
That's awesome!
Do the bubbles /waffles go toward the object or away from it? I always thought they went toward the item, not away. Ps this was great!
You know I've always kind of wondered the same. I just googled it and the bubbles go towards the item.

Where do you order your shipping boxes from?😊
I get my priority mail boxes free from usps.com 99.9% of the rest are free that friends save for me. The uline boxes in this video, my friend who works at the hospital, saved me like 100 of them! If I need a huge box I pick one up at walmart.
Great video. Thank you. Do you know if you can use Pirate Ship for non-ebay shipments?
You absolutely can! I use it for the discount on non ebay shipments. Even just shipping to family or friends.
Thank you sooooo much i just had a thermis break and had to refund my customer, girrrrl i am runnin to walmart today!!!😂😂
It last a while too!
Sure thing! I will do one!
@@RachelStrickland Wonderful! Thanks!
I am brand new reseller. What an education. How do you get eBay to ship your items when you have them at home🤔😉🦋
You are beautiful and so darn funny😂

I wanna help test the packaging!!!@@RachelStrickland
I just spent over $25.00 to ship a cookie jar from Florida to someone in California, I lost money on that sale. But, what would have been a cheaper way to ship a fragile item that needed a medium size box?
Shipping from Florida is crazy high. I'd try fed ex or ups but they may be just as high for your location. You can always set your listings to "calculated shipping"
❤
Yes, some times the rainy or snowy days are an excuse to stay in and work. Haha.
If they smaller box with crystal made it why would you think the bigger box with floating box inside wouldn't? How much do you charge for handling on something like 4 dinner plates?
Yes maybe I should have opened them in opposite order. I was just excited.
I watched the video and will forward it to the shipping department for further review lol AKA the wife
Hahaha
Pirate Ship! PLUS you rack up miles / points from using your credit card as your pirate ship form of payment!
Which card is your favorite for this?
Oddly, i don’t use PS that much, mostly personal mail or occasionally when the price is a big difference. But have heard other sellers racking up points / miles like a southwest air visa for free flights.
I live in California and yes, it's a curse just to live here lol.
😆
hi - just found you - hope you get this message. so those red goblets you were kicking and dropping - look to be fairly stout to me to begin with. i just purchased some Mikasa Kensington Frosted Stem Crystal Water Goblets (at an unbelievable deal) but they are soooo fragile - the crystal is sooooo thin! kinda wishing you had tested something like this, rather than something with a heavy weight to it...have you tried it with the super fragile goblets? do you think it would still work? feeling doubtful...
And…do you use mattress pad on a regular basis and find it cheaper than bubble wrap?😊
Rachel, do you have a source/recommendation for cheap mattress pads?
Here's The mattress pad I use: walmrt.us/48MEkhy
Those paper envelopes tear easily. I’ve mailed stuff in that and it’s ripped.
Well if you package the item ready to go and protected, then use the envelope, it will be ok if it gets torn.
I use those flat rate envelopes for most of my jeans. I tape the entire opening, all the corners, and I tape any spot where the envelope gets wrinkled/bent once it's sealed. I haven't had any complaints from buyers about rips or damage. Hopefully that helps
@@mayakoyama9130 what is the rate on those envelopes now? I haven’t used them in a good while.
@@notyourfriend5899 they're 8.05 on pirateship.
😂😂 😅
I really don't think anyone knew what they were doing when they told you to think outside the box lol. I see that origami is paying off. Seriously great information thanks for sharing. Now you and Drew stop playing around and get back to work 😂😂
I just made Israel an origami rocketship a few days ago! 😆
Drew sure is a lucky man. 🫶
Great video!
Thanks!
