    As more of a MTBer (but ride lots of CX) I'm amazed at how daunting roadies find tubeless (as per the comments section) after MTBers have already adopted it almost entirely over 10 years ago. Especially if you have a compressor/air-tank charger. With the right technique (you can manually seat 50-70% of a tyre with a tyre lever, pushing the bead into the rim wall) and every tubeless tyre goes up without fail. Majority of them (especially wider tyres) will go up with a standard floor pump (I've done maybe done 200+ tubeless road/CX/gravel/MTB tyres)

    As an owner of a Giant TCX, I appreciate a lot the outstanding level of service and attention to detail that you put into maintaining such a bike. I am curious to know: once such service is done and the bikes are stripped out, is it advisable to service also the 'ball bearing' spots in the front and back wheels, bottom bracket, and fork? Do you exclude it as a matter of cost efficiency or just because "don't fix what isn't broken" approach? I wonder if there should be preemptive care of these spots even if there is no cracking sounds as part of balancing the immediate cost with the potential future savings and performance benefits. I will be glad to get your professional opinion.

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  5 місяців тому +1

      If they are sealed BB’s we either replace them or don’t as the labour in removing the comments and getting to the bearings is almost the cost of replacing, but yes it’s essentially down to the customer 🧡

      Hydraulic brake/shifters for road used to be so expensive, given the LSM of the entry level giant defy, this cable to hydraulic converter made sense economically. TRP also make a very nice cable driven hydraulic brake calliper that is still current and way more elegant looking than the bulge this system created. Nowadays hydraulic shifters are way more economical and have trickled down in to entry level bikes, almost the norm now.

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  Рік тому

      It does attract dirt to a minor degree, but that film of grease/oil and even dirt protects it from rust. So after a degrease it’s good as new. My opinion of riding tubeless was that I just went back to tubes for less trouble!🧡⚙️

      Not just giant, my specialized at a cost of over £7k needed hose shortening and a tune up of the rear derailleur only to find the hanger loose. At least with giant you have the middle ground feeling of economy and quality

    2:03 this is really common with r7000,8000,9100 series derailleurs I don't know why. They just adamantly refuse to work properly unless cleaned and lubed every few days. Like my 5800 below series derailleurs don't even need any sort of maintenance once set up so why is the supposed newer, superior one so... finnicky?

    Great videos Lee. Is there such a thing as a cassette checker like a chain checker? Or is such a tool simply not existing? I've a couple of times now had to replace a Dura Ace cassette 'just in case' and could so with saving a few hundred pounds each time!

      Not that I’m aware of. In all honesty “just in case” is the way to go if you’re on dura ace 🧡⚙️

  • @Ali_Kurt

    Hi! Great job as always, I am asking from lack of knowledge, won't mixing the brake fluid make change it's properties / boiling point? isn't it better to use one single type of oil, or is that the manufacturers are lying to us? :D

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  Рік тому

      It may do. But for regular riding that will be of no problem. Fresh fluid will mean it rides good as new and we’ve never had problems with using a different brand. Thanks for watching!🧡⚙️

    The main reason I use lithium grease on chainring bolts is prevent creaking as well as corrosion. After 5 years when I replaced the square taper bottom bracket with steel cups in an aluminum frame, the threads looked pristine. Copper containing grease is puzzling to me. Copper is not good around aluminum generally. It works well for you, but lithium grease has given a good showing.

    I know your son does the video work. If its not too much trouble, if you guys keep the original audio, a 1min ASMR style, B-Roll, run through for youtube shorts might be worth the trouble. This is good content for it if the audio is there

      We have either a heater or a fan and the radio playing at all times in the shop which is why we decided to do a voiceover style, so that along with me and Simon generally chatting means we don’t get any raw audio🧡⚙️
