This is the first Suhr that just made my jaw drop. At the time, I didn't know who Suhr was, and didn't know who Pete Thorn was, but it was just the most beautiful guitar I'd ever seen.
Your musicality and the chords you play are just magical and inspiring. Such a refreshing break from the same 'ole blues licks everyone else seems to play. Your demo really shows the variety of tones and versatility of this guitar. I am awaiting my custom chambered mahogany Suhr Modern T with Thornbucker+/Thornbucker pickups and Pete Thorn electronics. Great video. Lots to learn from your playing and chord voicings. Thank you.
I'm interested in that Suhr/PRS comparison video.... Being a DGT lover myself I've been tempted by the Suhr PT as well..... Hope to see that one soon...
Pete's guitars are simply elegant rock machines. I love this design. I have a Fender Big Apple Strat which would be quite similar but the beauty of the Suhr is outstanding.
I thought the opening sounded like a Les Paul with 50s wiring. Naturally, the design gives tighter bass and less lower mids. For ages, humbuckers have been voiced hotter and darker, and perhaps that's how people think of Les Pauls now, but the first demo examples I heard of a Les Paul had that vintage openness and presence. I've got two Les Pauls; one is a Gibson voiced mid heavy, and the other is a copy with a 50s wiring harness, and PAF clones with output on the lower side. Two different beasts entirely. This Suhr sounds great! The closest I've come to playing a guitar with the Suhr precision and build quality was a Levinson Blade many years ago. That blue Suhr Tom Quayle used to play was amazing- easily his most unique tone. I'd love that guitar.
Excellent video and all round review. Those Thornbuckers sound great and the high chimes on my phone (boo hiss I know...🤣). If I can ask, and if you don't mind me asking, I think it would be a great video if you compare the pups against a start and a Les Paul 🙂. What ya think?
Please do a comparison review of the Suhr Pete Thorn, and the PRs DGT and I just picked up the Suhr Alt Pro ( I thought it had the Thorn buckers) it has the Ssv pick ups. So for that reason I will probably return it and consider the the Thorn signature model. Thanks. Great content amigo.
Very cool. I did a similar thing with a tele years ago. Except my neck was a single coil. I since went back to a three way switch. But this! I want one!
I’ve been considering a Suhr limited edition legacy guitar, but was unsure about the emg pickups….this demo changed my mind completely after hearing the 4th abs 5th position neck pickup….outstanding playing and a great video…thank you! 🤘🔥
Great video Paul. I've just bought a 3rd Suhr, a JM. Others are Alt T and an old classic S which got me in to them. They make great instruments especially for lefties. I've just bought the PT 15ir amp, that is also a step up. I can see a serious gear cull coming on so I can bag one of these guitars. Cheers for the great content.
I have had the PR15 IR for several months now and that has been one of my best purchases in a long time--a super versatile amp that sounds great no matter how you have it set up.
That PT sounds so versitile. I had a Suhr for a while but I never really jelled with it an ended up selling it ,but the PT seems nice. Have you ever thought about trying to capture the Blu into the QC?.....now that could be an interesting video ;-)
I have one just prior to this bridges release, and the G and D pull 2 or 3 cents sharp, but come back with a bend. It really doesn’t bother me. The upgrade became available after a few months, but I kept the original. I really like the neck and frets, and overall comfort and sound. It’s a pleasure to play. But after the PT, I bought a Strat for the more genuine single coil sounds. The PT is right in the middle, lots of great sounds from it. I think the bridge is a PT+ pickup. Crimson Red looks nice too, happy with the Turquoise. Congrats.
Both versions of the neck humbucker (full and split) sound just marvelous. This guitar is very compelling. I think this guitar also compares against the high end Charvels in addition to the PRS's.
Did you find any remnants of breakfast cereal in the pickup cavity? I did, I think it was Ready Brek, but it could have been Alpen. Also, the locking tuners had pistachio nut shells glued to them and there was a vole that had nested in the case it came with.
Hey Paul ! Besides the electronics/split differences, the neck carve is quite different from the DGT. I can't play thin necks and the PT Suhr seems to feature one... unfortunately. Cheers
I'd love for you to do a Dimarzio Gravity Storm neck pickup review .. I have this one and it's like a Super PAF :) Makes the Seymour Duncan 59er sound like a scooped, treble spiked mess.
The Thornbuckers compare very nicely with boutique PAF replicas. They push JUST enough, yet still have that somewhat single-coil-ish growl and clank. That's the best wat I can put it LOL! So, of course, Pete comes out with a new H/S/S model...
I like the demonstration of all the pickup positions, and the tone seems like it's really good. One thing that I don't like is virtually every single demonstration was the overused G-D-C chord progression. Should have mixed it up with some Em, Am, F Major, etc. I have one Suhr guitar and am extremely impressed with the quality, tone, and playability.
I thought it was for a while. I owned one for over a year. Then I played a JP15 and thought it was the most versatile and easiest to play guitar ever. I still think so.
@@ronsiegel1084 Ron, I'm recovering from a stroke so any music now is a win. For reference I picked up a used Mesa TC50. With clean, crunch and lead channels, in addition to foot switchable boost it's pretty versatile. Pre stroke amps were a vintage 65 SR, JB tweed twin and a couple plexi clones. Take the Mesa versatility and then add the JP Piezo pickups, coil tap and push vol boost (up to 20 db) and you can cover anything you would want to play. I play a lot of blues. A JP15 might not seem like a first choice, but with coil tap I can get a great clean or cleanish sound. With Piezo I have acoustic covered. With the volume and tone knobs I can get good HB tones. Then went I want to reply the 80s songs I have that and more in reserve. Post stroke I had trouble gripping a LP neck and I didn't have access to my strats. I went into a store and just picked up every instrument then had until I found a neck I could play. The JP is thinner than I would normally use, and much flatter, but it just worked. And it's light and comfortable. I rarely ever used any tremolo, but this one stays in tune. The guitar is flawlessly made. Everything just fits and works. I really had little Idea who JP was and I don't like DT music, but this guitar was well designed. I bought a TH LP and took it back. No way would I want to lug that around when I'm getting what I want from the JP. To each their own. I almost refused to buy it because of it's looks (dumb). And I took it back because it just doesn't look like something I would play. Then next way when I went to a practice studio I missed it immediately and I called and bought it back. Your results may vary, but I find it the true Swiss Army knife of guitars. I still own two vintage 60s strats, a couple great teles, and a mid 80s LP Showcase Edition. But they can all go. The JP15 is also the easiest guitar I've ever played. It was perfect for me to relearn how to fret on and it will be perfect as I continue playing. I'm back to over 90% my pre stroke level. And it's the only guitar I pick up. I could be my old self and say the JP15 through the Mesa doesn't exactly do LP through the twin or a strat/tele through the SR. But the truth is it gets close enough for me and I've never been good enough to play before people who would really be able to notice. Give it a shot. Even if, like me, you may have to close your eyes at first. Now I appreciate the rosewood body and neck and the craftsmanship. We can all change.
Sounds like a Telecaster more so than a Les Paul, the bridge and wood selection gives it an slightly different flavour, than a Tele but very similar I would still prefer the Les Paul for blues and rock, although this would sound great for fusion and funky styles.
string trees, Ive gotten 5 Yamaha Pacifica 112Vs, and have taken off them trees out of them: working even better! one true sign of a good strat: no string tree/s!!!!! : )
The screws on the saddles are too small and soft, a different head on the screw could use a more common Allen key... I tried them but switched to roller saddles. I don't need the hassle on a dark stage.
the price is totally indecent for everybody so except for him, no chance people pay for that they will go and see other models like ultra hss or a used LUke
Can't be a super Strat if it's not HSS or HSH, IMO. Need that 5 position selector, or at least some way of getting spanky coil combinations like #2 or #4 on Strat, or it's closer to a Les Paul than a Strat, regardless of shape.
" almost " got that single coil sound. It is a Pretty sounding guitar but its not a strat, does not sound like a strat. Same goes for John Mayer PRS Strat..
Typical "Iknow it all" mentality: sees a problem with the Wilkinson locking saddles were there is 0.0..Or are you saying that Thorn doesn't know what he is doing?
I own two Suhr guitars. Probably the best guitars I’ve owned in my 50 years of buying guitars.
Where is EBMM Luke III in your rank list?
This is the first Suhr that just made my jaw drop. At the time, I didn't know who Suhr was, and didn't know who Pete Thorn was, but it was just the most beautiful guitar I'd ever seen.

Gorgeous guitar, fantastic demo! Thanks for sharing!
I love mine. Would also love a comparison with the DGT.
I've owned this guitar for years and stumbled across your review here...very well done, and your tones are OUTSTANDING! Wish I could play like you!
This is my first time I have seen your channel and this guitar. This guitar sounds amazing and is incredibly diverse. Nice review!
Welcome aboard!
I have 4 guitars with bridge humbuckers - 3 have Thornbuckers. So good.
Thanks!
No problem
Came across this as I am getting a Thornbucker equipped Strandberg. You got some nice tones here man. Great playing and video!
Cool, thanks
Pete's guitars are simply elegant rock machines. I love this design. I have a Fender Big Apple Strat which would be quite similar but the beauty of the Suhr is outstanding.
nice pickup configuration. great review!!
Love the Suhr stuff. Cheers for the video.
Anytime.
My fave part was the bit on the Les Paul. God I love those things
That's a beautiful guitar, I'd love to get one!

Love you to compare this to your DGT.
Stainless steel frets is the way to go, I love them!
Nice playing! And of course a stunning axe. I currently have a Suhr Classic SSS and a Modern HH and this this would be a great addition.

This and the DGT are honestly the only guitars with split coils I've heard that actually sound like single coils.
The new PRS Fiore with the bridge humbucker is another .
Agreed!
PRS Dave's Guitar is also very nice.
Ibanez AZ Series guitars with HH or HSS pickups.
My TA Drop Top's bridge humbucker splits into a perfect strat bridge.
That sounds amazing. I can't afford the guitar but I'm going to put a set of those pickups in my strat and copy the wiring system.
Nice guitar, great sound! Rock on! 🤘
I’d love to see the comparison with the DGT. I own a DGT Goldtop and haven’t had a chance to try Pete’s signature guitar.
so, when does that comparison video gonna show up? :)
Great video Paul. I've just bought a 3rd Suhr, a JM. Others are Alt T and an old classic S which got me in to them. They make great instruments especially for lefties. Ooh I fancy one of the PT15 IR’s. Cheers Jeff.
I have had the PR15 IR for several months now and that has been one of my best purchases in a long time--a super versatile amp that sounds great no matter how you have it set up.
Just got my first Suhr today ! Went with this guitar - PT Sig black w/ Thorn Buckers
Of course you know the real solution to the locking saddles on a live stage - buy another one in gold as a backup!
Very bright sounding, you should demo some warmer leads etc too.
That PT sounds so versitile. I had a Suhr for a while but I never really jelled with it an ended up selling it ,but the PT seems nice. Have you ever thought about trying to capture the Blu into the QC?.....now that could be an interesting video ;-)

Hiya Paul! Any chance of a vid comparing the thornbuckers with SD Antiquities?
Gorgeous
Hello! I don’t think you tried the Parallel switch in the #3 position. I heard the 1st & 2nd. Or does it not work in that position?
Paul, what's your signal chain in this video? Would love it if you could add the details to your descriptions. Cheers.
Hi Gary, it is in the description.
Thoughts on this Suhr vs the PRS Studio 2021 that you recently acquired? Thanks. Appreciate you. Great content!
Awesome as always!!
Hey Paul ! Besides the electronics/split differences, the neck carve is quite different from the DGT. I can't play thin necks and the PT Suhr seems to feature one... unfortunately. Cheers
Love the switching. I’m an HSH guy but I’ve always found position 3 to be next to useless
I’m not normally a fan of position 3, but on the PT its really usable.
@@TheStudioRats I concur, it sounds great
This vs dgt we need a video!

I only know G C and D
Do the necks feel super small on these? A little afraid to take the leap due the neck size.
Can you describe the difference in necks on the PT and DGT?
How's the trem when U give it a good bend.
sounds sweet
Reminds me more of my old Ibanez Roadstar.
Yes I know what you mean, it does have a look of a roadster
Agree ....Roadstar Superstrats in the early 80 s👍
Great review, I’m really wanting the gold top version…
The Gold top is my favourite too.

7.5 lbs
Anyone consider re-wiring/switching positions 4 and 5 (so 5 is fully leaded neck bucker)?
That would be my preference, i dont really use position 5 on this guitar.
Did you purchase this guitar or are you borrowing it? Congrats if it is a new purchase.
Interesting, but I like the tones from the DGT better and i feel that it has more personality to it.
I would like to know what amp/modeller you used in this video?

Maybe a great guitar
But the mention of Thorne
Ends my interest. 🙄
