Being in places with people... Also it's always so wild to see you walking around the city I live in! Pretty sure I've been to Gourmet China House (or at least I've walked past it a bunch).

Pax east 2020 was sureal. It feels like a lifetime ago. There were so many fewer people and watching this feels like remembering a fever dream. As soonnas me and my friends got home pax is when things really started spreading heavy in the US. It felt like we just made it back to safety before a storm hit.

Its a supremely weird feeling to feel nostalgic for something that was less than 12 months ago. My friend and I were here for Thurs/Fri, and we still both don't know how we dodged getting covid.
This is so weird to watch all these people mingling right before things were about to kick off with the pandemic, kind of uncomfortable to watch what would have otherwise been a cute and wholesome video

Anyways, I'm glad y'alls got to go to this last PAX. Chinatown especially looked awesome. If PAX had been even one week later I don't think you'd have been able to go. In Washington State at the time we were just days from a formal lockdown, and I had already bought emergency supplies and hunkered down a couple of weeks prior. I was kind of amazed you guys went at all, but it looks like you juuuuust made it in under the wire. I was at C2E2 this same weekend and had a friend who went to Pax east, saw your panel, and than flew home and joined me at C2E2 on Sunday. The fact that this was only hardly a year ago is insane to me. I feel like that weekend was ages ago.
If it hasn't been said already, if you want to go to Boston's chinatown and you can swing it with your schedule, go for dim sum. There are some phenomenal places to eat dim sum here.
East started on February 27th last year. The Biogen conference that would turn out to be the initial super-spreader event in MA was February 26th and 27th, and it wasn't traced back to that until March 5th-ish; people understood there was some risk, but the magnitude of the potential problem really had not been communicated by any state officials. There was a lot of unease in the air, of course. If East had been scheduled just a week or two later, it almost certainly would have been cancelled; basically everything in Boston completely shut down by mid-March. And PAX East very well could have been the initial superspreader event instead of the Biogen conference. We PAX-goers got lucky.
I remember things in Michigan starting to shut down in march. Events like this were being cancelled left and right around here. March 2020 was not a time to hold events like this. False confidence in groups, I guess.
The Element is SUCH a weird-ass hotel. Cubbies instead of dressers, mini-kitchens in rooms despite not sources of groceries within a mile, strange design choices, etc. Kind of a mess for my disability so it's kinda the Westin or nothin', sadly, and usually that means it's nothin' because the Westin is unobtainium.
Do you know if you actually got Covid back then Graham? I honestly wonder if I got it back in before everything in Vegas got shut down since for a week or so my voice was just gone and my throat felt hella dry
Based on timelines, geography, and probability, I would be astonished if the small cough I had was anything other than that. If nothing else, I’m not aware of any cases originating at PAX and my maskless ass would’ve spread the hell out of it.

As far as I know... I haven't heard of a single case that was caught at PAX Eeast. There was an outbreak at a different gathering of medical professionals at the hotel further out from mine, which is when Mass started having trouble, but... PAX didn't have some enormous spread. I still feel like the last kid through the turnstile the day the park closed.
PAX East was Feb 27 through March 1. At that point, the only cases of Coronavirus discovered in the US were like 16 people on the West Coast, and at that point all but two of the cases were people who had traveled from China. So it's fairly unlikely anybody at PAX East had Covid-19 to give to anyone.
@@Dreamwriter4242 By the the start of March Covid had killed in the US, and we later found out that Covid had been spreading in the US since January. So PAX might have been safe, since it was on the East Cost, but there is a chance that someone there had an early strain since a lot of people travelled from all over to be there, and knowledge of the possibility of spread was the reason that Sony pulled out of PAX East so its not like the risk of spread was even unknown to people at the time.
Man its great seeing this, but also horrifying cus this was definitely a super spreader event, oof. I also kept hearing "Unicorn Piss" when they tried the sodas
To me this seems crazy even for the time, I'm sure they did what was suggested for where they were but by the start of March my state had its first death and the governor had ask people to keep any gathering small and stay at home if you are feeling in anyway under the weather, by the start second week a friend of mine was in quinine for exposer to Covid, and by the end of that week the lockdown order was issued. So I forgot that in some areas people still didn't bat an eye at someone who has lost their voice due to illness being in a room full of people at the start of March. Watching this feels surreal.

I just came back to this September 2021 because I got to go to GenCon in Indiana and wanted inspiration for the vlog that I made.
