Tim, these are mesmerizing actually. You always do this on nice sunny days, but I just can't imagine doing this when it's blowing 30 with an adverse tide. Yikes!

Don't apologize for the boat handling videos. I'm fascinated with the menuverabilty of such a big tug and barge, my dad worked on tugboats and its something that gets in your blood. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and skills.
LOL That made me giggle. (My grandfather was a surgeon and non of us have ever been able to meet of surpass his awesomeness) But seriously, thank you so much for watching and for the kind words. CUOTO
Not a boat person but this is really a great video - really gives me an appreciation for your knowledge of tug, the barge and all the external forces you deal with. Thank you for your knowledge and seamanship!
Pushing toward 60 and retired 32 years with Uncle Sam as a ground pounder and Law Enforcement, I've always loved the sea but was on a different career path. This helps with my desire to be on the water...
Excellent Tim....one of the best videos you've done! I'm totally envious of your skills....and I've been running boats professionally since circa 1969. I'm amazed how you keep so "cool" while explaining what you're doing. I get nervous backing a head boat into a slip with a crowd watching me at the dock..lol!
The opening overhead shot is so great! It's nice to see the entire place at once. And it looks very cozy too :) You could use wider shots like this one a little bit more often ;)
Good morning Wayne. I was wondering where you were and if you'd check in again. Stay safe my friend and guess what! I have been talking with David from "Cruising the Cut". Love the Cape Ann shirt!!! Haven’t seen one in quite a few years!!!! Spent quite a few years doing marine electronics in Fort Lauderdale. Was towed a many times by a Cape Ann boat.

TimBatSea thanks for replying!! Capt Ellis was the king of New River, for sure!!! FYI- grew up on Fishers Island/ Long Island Sound and was in the CG, New London to Staten Island. Great video! Boat handling videos are among the best. Very interesting and impressive to see. I am full of admiration! I've got a small sail boat and I think that is tricky to handle...
Thank you for watching Henrik. Don't tell anyone, but your small sailboat probably is much harder to maneuver because it is so responsive. Things happen so slowly with a loaded barge, you have much more time to correct mistakes. Be sure to subscribe if you haven't already as I try to post new content every Tuesday. CUOTO
One of these times I would like to see what the tie off looked like from the barge and what the results of the control work were . Thanks for your time , Good show !

@@TimBatSea there are 6 or seven stories about becoming a river boat pilot that are posted on line. Loved them. Interesting take on the importance of the Union for the insurance companies and the special knowledge that was exchanged to keep the traffic safe. Thanks for treating us like your cub...I now fully understand the hydraulic control for rudder position. I never did before.
Great video. I have used your patience. I used it when skydiving, SLOWER IS FASTER. Not in free fall, but in the prep and practice for s dive. works every time.

Great stuff.. it's all about setting yourself up and letting the momentum help and tweaking it as needed and like you said.. just wait a bit and let it do its thing. Awesome maneuvering video, those loaded barges just don’t want to stop. Another load of fuel delivered! How about a video “Tim goes to the gas station “. A video where you get the tug filled up. Also how long can you go on one fill? Or another example, how far can you push a loaded barge, form NY to ___ on one one tank.
Thank you for watching Thomas. If you are new to the channel, welcome and please consider subscribing as I try to post new content every Tuesday. So fueling Ops are part of the "no filming" thing as they can have a few issues of liability and proprietary operations involved. But I would like to do a virtual fueling video one day talking our way through what I can't show you. As far a how far we can push, that really is a weather thing more than a few thing. But assuming the weather was perfect and we were towing and not pushing, you can do the math. We hold almost 60,000 gallons of fuel. We burn almost 3000 a day while pulling a loaded barge and making 6 to 7 kts. CUOTO PS Of course there are safe limits like not burning every drop of fuel and the fact that we are ballasted with fuel and not water.
Another great video. How you control all that weight and inertia is really interesting. Would love to be there to watch and feel the barge react to your power inputs. To gently come up beside that ship is awesome.
TimBatSea - hello Tim, I have been following you stories for a while, as a mariner I do enjoy the tug boat fantastic build , brutal power and intricacy of its design to do the work it does.. also connected with you an the story about your property on the west coast of Puerto Rico, Rincon, Aguada, Aguadilla which surprised me !! .... I cycled around the island and enjoyed every bit of it. Your stories and knowledge are very entertaining, please keep them coming !!! Gracias
I couldn't stop watching! Another excellent example of experience and skill at work! With fall coming I'd like to see what strategies you employ with different weather conditions. Great job Tim! Looking forward to the next video!

Thank you for watching William. I am saving up to buy a few more things for the channel and one of the thing on my wish list is a 360 camera. Thank you for watching and for being a subscriber! Yes this is a bunker barge with about 30,000 barrels of petroleum in it. That's well over a million gallons. So there tends to be a lot of energy stored up in every turn. CUOTO

CUOTO
PS Of course there are safe limits like not burning every drop of fuel and the fact that we are ballasted with fuel and not water.
Nice job Captain, great job of handling that barge.

Thank you very much Zach. I really appreciate it! CUOTO
Amazing how you handle the barge. Good job TimB

Another great video. How you control all that weight and inertia is really interesting. Would love to be there to watch and feel the barge react to your power inputs. To gently come up beside that ship is awesome.
Thank you for watching and subscribing! I really means alot to me. CUOTO
Slick bit of work!
Thank you for watching and for the kind words. I really do appreciate them. CUOTO
Tim you keep these up and I am gonna be a NY Tug Master LOL, thanks man... loved it.
LOL! Thank you for watching Vincent. You'll be all set up here before you know it. CUOTO
Good job Tim !!! ...smooth

Gracias
@@carlospadial5023 Muy bien Carlos. Cuidate

I couldn't stop watching! Another excellent example of experience and skill at work! With fall coming I'd like to see what strategies you employ with different weather conditions. Great job Tim! Looking forward to the next video!
Thank you for watching Matt. Thant is a great idea. I might do a video on that when I get back to work. CUOTO
Nice video Cap! I'm loving your channel! Thanks for the videos keeping us entertained and for sharing your vast knowledge!
Thank you very much for watching James. I really appreciate it! CUOTO
If really fun to watch your videos 😀 no video is boring
Thank you so much. You have no idea how much I enjoy reading comments like yours. CUOTO
That was AWESOME! Tim, Don't get me wrong, Your a great Captain/Teacher, But I think you would be lost with out Reggie! I so wish you would interview him! He definitely knows his job! Dose he watch your videos? Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you for watching Rick. I am very luck to have Supper Reggie on my teem. The best quarterback wouldn't be much without his receivers. It is very rewarding for all to work together for a common goal and do it well. CUOTO
Nice video! On board videos are the best, at least in my opinion. Boring no, easy to watch, yes. Must assume that they are easier to produce also.
Thank you for watching and for your input. I really appreciate it. CUOTO
Great video. Tim. Shot on a perfect day, so my question is under what weather conditions would you consider this evolution too unsafe to attempt?
Thank you for watching Jim. I am not sure that this job would ever be canceled dew to weather, but I may ask for an assist if things were nasty and there was a chance to be set on the ship or off of it towards the shoal (other side of the channel). Please consider subscribing if you haven't already. I try to post new content every Tuesday. CUOTO
Really enjoyable video. Wish could have seen more of the port side and bow activity.
Thank you for watching William. I am saving up to buy a few more things for the channel and one of the thing on my wish list is a 360 camera. My thinking (for now) is that I would shoot a regular video like this one, but have a companion 360 video that you would be able to control what you see. Crossing finger, CUOTO
i love boat handling how you do the tug and just being out on the sea

A thing of beauty!
Thank you Phil.
super cool have to do that with trailors ever so often a lot easier with a trailor LOL....you did a great job made it look easy
Thank you very much for watching Adam. It's just what you do. You wouldn't want to see me back up your big rig. lol Be safe and keep her between the ditches. CUOTO
Love the video's, especially when I know exactly where it took place. It kinda puts me there when I watch these at work. I don't miss the AK railroad bridge closing warnings. I fish that channel in the spring for strippers. Have a good day !!
Thank you for watching and please consider subscribing if you haven't already. I try to post new content every Tuesday/ CUOTO
In New Jersey, you won't find strippers in the channel - they are in Newark!
Was this a fuel barge? I would imagine a few hundred thousand gallons of fuel would be pretty heavy. Great video Tim !
Thank you for watching and for being a subscriber! Yes this is a bunker barge with about 30,000 barrels of petroleum in it. That's well over a million gallons. So there tends to be a lot of energy stored up in every turn. CUOTO
Another great action video! I would think that another camera pointing aft would be great for viewers. Then we could see what's ging on on the other end. Just my opinion. Thanks for what you do. I love watching you guys in action.
Thank you for watching Ken. I am saving up to buy a 360 camera. I too think it would be fun for you guys to be able to pull the screen around to what ever you are interested in. CUOTO
