- This video recipe will show you how to make 4 types of melt in your mouth butter cookies, inspired by the classic royal danish butter cookie boxes. These include the round country style, rectangular sugar slice, vanilla ring, and round raisin crunch. Whichever is your favourite, use this easy baking recipe to make them all in one batch of cookie dough. The extra fragrant buttery aroma comes from using Wijsman butter and the lightness of the cookie gives it a real mouth in your mouth feel that makes for a perfect afternoon tea at home.

-------------------------------------------------------------
The full recipe is below
-------------------------------------------------------------
2 cup plain flour
230g salted butter (use wijsman butter for best results)
½ cup caster sugar
1 egg
½ tsp vanilla extract
¼ tsp salt
Additional ingredients for topping:
½ tsp granulated sugar (for rectangular sugar slice)
1½ tbs raisins, chopped (for round raisin crunch)
Mix butter and caster sugar together until combined.
Add egg, vanilla extract, and salt and combine.
Sift in flour and mix until it has a cookie dough consistency and there is no longer any dry flour visible.
Tip: try not to overmix the dough here to prevent cookie from being too dense to eat.
There is enough dough to make 4 batches of cookie.
Round country style shape:
Take ¼ portion of the dough and place on baking paper.
Shape into a rough log shape.
Fold the baking paper over and use a dough cutter to help turn it into a round shaped log.
Refrigerate for 1-2 hrs right until before baking.
Slice into ¾ cm thick slices.
Rectangular sugar slice shape:
Take ¼ portion of the dough and place on baking paper.
Shape into a rough log shape.
Fold the baking paper over and use it to help form a rectangular shape.
Refrigerate for 1-2 hrs right until before baking.
Slice into ¾ cm thick slices and top with granulated sugar.
Vanilla ring shape:
Take ¼ portion of the dough and place into piping bag leaving some room at the tip.
Cut the tip off and place into another piping bag with a closed star piping tip fitted.
Pipe into desired shape until all the dough is used.
Refrigerate for 1-2 hrs right until before baking.
Round raisin crunch shape:
Take ¼ portion of the dough and mix with chopped raisins.
Place on baking paper and shape into a rough log shape.
Fold the baking paper over and use a dough cutter to help turn it into a round shaped log.
Refrigerate for 1-2 hrs right until before baking.
Slice into ¾ cm thick slices.
Bake cookies for 15 mins at 160℃.
Allow to cool on a wire rack and serve.

Hi everyone, thanks for watching this video. Many of you have asked for the measurements in grams.
2 cup flour - 325g
1/2 cup caster sugar - 115g
For your information, the capacity of the cup used in this recipe is 1 cup = 250ml.
This is totally unrelated but I notice you have beautiful fingers. 😍 I have checked out your videos and I’m subscribing you now. Your food contents hits home and my stomach. 😋
Please check again the measurement of your cup please or the cup for the flour as well, they're totally unmatched to your description in above
helloo, can you tell me what kind of flour did you use?
@@Vardemoi hi there, this recipe uses all purpose flour
hi lovely making .. If the cup is 250ml how come it is 325g
I'm so glad this recipe has been posted. I just bought a huge tin of the Danish Butter cookies and they've changed the recipe! Sacre bleu. The piped one that has ridges, no longer softly crumbles in your mouth. Kind of a harder crunch, like a stale Keebler, Pecan Sandy. So disappointing. I've enjoyed them for decades. Guess I'll have to make them myself.
Hi there, that's indeed disappointing. We love the original taste and texture of the original danish butter cookies. The hard crunch doesn't sound too pleasant at all. Hope you do spend the time to make these yourself :)
@@Yummeth Oh, yes, probably for New Years.
Yes, to everything you said, plus the can has gotten ridiculously small.
The particular cookie you are referring to is called “vanillekrans” (vanilla wreath). They are sold separately as well from other manufacturers - might be able to find them online. Greetings from Denmark!
@@SIRMMA Bless you. I will look for it. I'll look for it right now!!!!!

@@Yummeth thank you. My kids love danish butter cookies but the ones that we always buy have lost their touch and doesn't taste as nice as years back then. It's just so bland and not crunchy and u can't find the bit and pcs of the raisins. My kids are so disappointed. Last i bought i was left untouched and i gave them to my niece. Esp now they have other brands with cheaper price. Soooo I'm gonna make this on new year. Thanks once again. Bless u!!!
@@theleftysjournal8781 that's disappointing to hear, those tried and tested cookies are priceless especially since they bring with them some precious memories so it's unfortunate they changed the recipe. Let us know how you go with these :)
Omg I made these and they taste like the ones you get out of the blue tin... The Wijsman butter has a very unique flavor that really makes the cookie if you ask me. They are very addictive. I found that piping the cookies was the easiest method, I couldn't get my square shapes perfect enough.
Glad you like them!
Yum
thank you :)
wow,, wonderful , looks so tasty cookies,,

love from Hunza GB
Thanks and welcome
Can't wait to try it out this Sunday!!
please do! :)
@@Yummeth May I ask that abt how long i need to soften my butter at room temperature?? thanks
@@zhiroutan1718 It should be soft enough for you to be able to cream it but not too soft. Ideally, you want it to still be able to somewhat hold its shape before creaming. The length of time really depends on how warm or cold the air is in your home. Hope that helps :)
@@Yummeth awhhhhh thankssss
@@zhiroutan1718 it should give you around 30-40 cookies
That's fantastic, I cooked some cakes with my sons on my channel on UA-cam, I'll try this soon

Hi @Yummeth! Can I use powder sugar instead? If possible, how much would it be? Thank you!
Hi there, actually never made these with powdered sugar. You may need to adjust the amount otherwise the texture and sweetness may be different
Can i use choco crunch instead of raisin?
Hi, can we use the mixer for butter and sugar?? 🤗 btw easy and perfect recipe.. everybody loved it 💕💕
Yes that should be fine
What a nice hands 😍
now please make FAMOUS AMOS biscuits cookie recipe .. ;D
Maybe one day!
New friend here😊
Gonna be soooooooooooooooooooo good 😢
👍
Preheat timing?
Could you plz post eggless version too... Or plz recommend egg substitute
Can you use regular butter, if so salted or unsalted. I don’t have access to preserved butter. Will it substantially change the flavor?
You certainly can use regular salted butter. The taste won't be the same as the classic danish butter cookies but still good.
@@Yummeth
Why not use salted butter and lower or omit altogether the salt added in the recipe?
I will try your recipe soon, it looks fabulous! My question is: is any flavour that I can add to regular butter to reciprocate with the Wijsman one that you used? That brand is not sell in my area…
Thank you for your patience with all of the public questions 😀
Hi there, happy to answer your questions :) the wijsman butter does have a distinct flavour that works really well for making butter cookies, but if it's not accessible to you, you can try using your favourite salted butter to make the cookies. Let us know how it goes.
@@Yummeth dear how much grams flour is that? Tgx
@@jasybrigde4136 325g flour
Yummy cookies, may i know the measuring cup that you used in grams?
Hi there, please see the pinned comment on this video
Ok thanks 🙏
125g of flour 1 cup
60g sugar 1/4 cup
115g of butter
Hi. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I made them yesterday. They taste delicious, but they kind of melted or spread in the oven. They did not keep the shape. What did I do wrong?.
Hi there, you may need to adjust the proportions or use measurements in grams instead of cup sizes as these vary (see pinned comments for grams). Try to get a similar consistency as shown in the video before baking and also make sure it's sufficiently refrigerated. Hope that helps
If I use unsalted butter, should I add 1/2 tea spoons of salt or more?? Thank you!
Hi there, it's really up to your preference in taste
I have read that preserved butter can taste like cheese, is this the case with Wijsman?
I'm amazed that Butter comes in a can!! I'm in the United States of America and everything in plastic containers or wrapped and put in a box!
Can certainly taste the difference. Hope you get a chance to try it out soon :)
Can i use powdered sugar instead of castor sugar if so measurements please
Wonderful video!!
Can I freeze the cookie dough for later use?
Thank you;)
Thank you, yes that should be possible. Just make sure you keep it airtight to prevent ice from building up and thaw it out in the fridge before using :)
@@Yummeth This recipe is similar to sugar cookies, yes?
Noice!
👍
Hi, please can I use powdered/icing sugar instead?
Hi there, possibly but haven't tried it before and it's likely that the amount will need adjusting
❤❤❤
Can we use normal sugar instead of caster sugar?
You can try that however would suggest you mix it until it's fully incorporated and also convert it to the equivalent amount of sugar since caster is much finer.
Wijsman butter is the legend butter, In Indonesia Wisjman butter is the expensive one and when you using Wisjman butter for your cookies and cakes, it's taste more richer and ofc delicious 😫😫
Absolutely, couldn't agree more :)
I've been living in the Netherlands my whole entire life and I've never ever heard of this butter
That's interesting, would never have known. There must be good quality butter readily available everywhere there :)
@@Yummeth that's what I thought too until I found that the supermarket I always go to doesn't have it, I guess you can only order it online?
@@kiwi.kiwi. yes your local distributor might have it or amazon in your region might have it also
Please tell me it's okay I use wheat flour to the dough 😊😊😊
Yes this recipe is using all purpose wheat flour
Can this be made with no eggs.
How do I measure 1/4 for each batch? Would it be possible to get it in grams so there’s no mistake. Thanks
Do you mean dividing the dough into 4 portions evenly or are you planning to only make a ¼ amount in total?
If it's dividing, you could use a scale but actually doesn't have to be that exact so roughly based on appearance is enough.
If it's making a smaller batch, the gram measurements is in the pinned comment.
Is your cup measurements us cups
any tips for spreading flat in the oven?
do you mean the cookie dough is melting in the oven?
Yes it doesn’t keep its shape
@@j2nine Make sure you refrigerate before cutting and baking. Also check that you have the proportions right. There seems to be some confusion around cup and gram measurements. See pinned comment
What's the importance of the egg in the cookies?
Can we do without the egg?
Gostaria de receita em português
For the cookie with the sugar on top, the sugar doesn't melt when baking?
It shouldn't melt
@@Yummeth ok thanks👍🏿
At what temp should I preheat the oven?
Hi there, the full recipe is in the description
is the dough supposed to be sticky before refrigerated?
it's not really very sticky, more like a cookie dough consistency
Please tell me substitute of butter
Por favor, a quantidade em gramas?
Hi, can I know how many grams for each cup of plain flour? Not sure what cup size you’re using. Thanks.
Hi, sure the conversion should be 150g per cup of flour
@@Yummeth thanks for your reply, I have tried making it. I used a measuring cup and it said 1 cup equals to 250ml. I mixed them up but the dough seems very watery, it doesn’t sticky like yours. 😢
@@cpy29 so sorry, the cup size we used is exactly the same as yours so please base your measurements on that.
@@Yummeth thank you. But not sure why, the dough is not in shape like urs after mixing 2 cups of flour.
@@cpy29 Hi, perhaps the butter and egg mixture was too runny? You could try to refrigerate the dough to firm it up before shaping. If it is still too runny, perhaps you can add in slightly more flour. Just be careful not too add too much flour as it may cause the cookies to be dense.
Why do I use Wijsman so it spreads? and expand
For the taste
I want to try this recipe is it refrigerate over night?
Hi there, it shouldn't require overnight refrigeration. Just long enough so it can be cut easily
@@Yummeth thank you.
Please do these come out crunchy?
Is it necessary to use salted butter?
Hi there, it won't change the texture of the cookie but it will taste different
Can I used air fryer to bake this?
Have never tried so not sure
