You work so hard at your channel John. So not sure how many days ago with editing etc, this was. I'm down at the moment, and the weather has been mad and wild! You've been out there in really quite nasty conditions, to do what you love doing. But, probably the bigger part is to bring to your subscribers more content and earn a living. I am familiar with the area, and it's not a whole bag of fun to be doing what you are doing. Thank you for all the input, work, risks you take, to produce something for your subscribers to enjoy in the comfort and safety of their homes.
If it was only for the money and clout I would do things very differently and would have a boat and back covered in sponsors. It makes enough money to cover the fishing, I still need to work to support our family.
35:45 that's THE BEST "excuse" to get another one haha. Beautiful sharks btw !!
😬👍🏻
You can sell yourself short if you want but you are one hell of a fisherman John, ive never seen anyone catch a shark like that before, im sure others have hand lined them in but not after snapping off and steaming after the gear like that, then snapping the reel handle which would have been my queue to get going on home, soon as the bad luck starts to mount up thats it for me, that was a crazy session and you deserved those fish more than any ive seen you land before, also proof that your prepping and a tidy work space etiquette means you can get out of the crap when it all kicks off, that was amazing John, well done and thanks for sharing that with us all
I hoped that it showed that so I am really glad to hear it. By being organised it allows you to adapt to things that arise. The broken rods and reel handle were just bad luck and my own doing. It happens. Very glad to get the fish back. 😊👍🏻🦈
The missus wants to know why I'm rocking back and forth on the sofa. It's because it's a swelly day out on the boat innit! 🤣
😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Haha. I get the wobbles on land after a day like that. 🤣🌊
Lol
The ol stillness illness
That was absolutely insane 😂 how you managed to land and tag that first shark is like one of those stories you hear down the pub! Well done for getting out there mate 👍
If it wasn’t on camera people would have believed it. 🤣
I STILL can't believe it!!!
I enjoyed that. Real fishing - and good on you for crimping the barbs down. Great that you got the shark too. Nice work and considerate fishing! Appreciated.
Just adapted to what happened through the day. Not ideal but a success.
Well done Lad another marvellous adventure you have taken us on, what looked a smart day at crack of sparrows fart turned right sloppy hey ho, lookin forward to Sunday mate!
That’s the difference between inshore and offshore mate. Their ain’t no shelter offshore. 🤣🌊
That was an unbelievable save that John, not only getting the gear back but the fish aswell! 😂😂😂 well done! Theres nothing worse than snapping off and knowing that you have left tackle in a fish or ghost tackle floating around in the sea so seeing you get that back was brilliant top job! 🎣🎣🎣
I was really pleased too mate.
@@TheFishLocker i could tell 🤣🤣🤣 from utterly deflated to back in the game! Spot on! 🎣🎣🎣
Barbless hooks help mitigate that particular heart ache..
The use of frozen chum blocks is also the way i used to do my groundbait for pond fishing. the size of tennis balls just big enough for a throwing stick. yes im sorry for your loss of the rod rings but at least the fish wasnt far off and you tagged her ok. keep em coming John crack on and be safe
They have already been fixed and it was my own fault they broke. 🤷🏻♂️
@@TheFishLocker I always used to use Seymo guides to replace any that were broken John especially Diamite for the heavier down tide rods
You couldn't break one of those with a 2Lb lump hammer!
Great fishing mate some lovely sharks there in sloppy chop 👍👍🎣
Thanks bud.
Masterful ! Superb dealing with that first rod break !
Adapt and overcome.
I dont know if you read new comments on older video's, but boy....what Lucky that you reeled in that shark and was able to tag it. And bummer for your gear but thats life😊. Love from Holland
I do what I can, but the sheer volume of comments that come in make it hard to see everything. 😊🤷🏻♂️
All in all a nice and well made video, thank you.
Thank you very much John.
Hand lining sharks, now that’s hard core. Hope the rods fix is easy.
Already fixed mate. The handle need a new part but it’s not a big job.
The highs and lows of fishing in a nutshell lol...
Loved the way you took time to retrieve your snapped tackle....not only the shark on ,but the consideration you have for the environment...
Plus not many people can say ,caught 2 sharks this morning before breakfast lol...
Great viewing again sir 👍...never a dull moment
That’s it mate, adapt and overcome.
@@TheFishLocker you dod it bloody well too 👏 👌
@@TheFishLocker.Great to see these fish being returned 👍during the 70s there were charter boats at my local harbour would return every day from trips with tope and porbeagles hanging. hanging
Hanging from the bows of the boats it was disgusting even back then
@@garythomas3219 I remember Mevagissey in the 70s 80s too ,big sharks on forklift trucks etc...plus Looe...
Ss a kid I liked looking at them ,but I'm glad that they have moved on...I also remember being told that certain large boats in St Austell bay were Russian dredge trawlers ...For a few years it was tough to even catch a mackerel....
“ I’m a long way out…” Not being funny John , just watching what the weather is like and the sea…I was thinking of chucking up…To top it off,you listed all the people who knew you were out on the waves… “ Give it half & hour “, some of the greatest understatements ever made.
Good luck and God bless . R
It’s all about mitigating the risks but enjoying your life. 😊👍🏻
You’re far more than just a fisherman. Those swells looked pretty rough.. I love your educating way , and your films anyone should be able to follow… All the weather forecasts have said that the weather won’t change until next week.. Please try to keep safe…😉🤓😎
Shark fishing in a bath tub in the middle of the sea, brilliant you’ve got some balls 😂
Haha. Thank you.
And that's that ... That's fishing! All the best laid plans, all the expertise, gear, patience ... some days you lose ....and it's still wonderful ! 😂
Absolutely. You just need to adapt and overcome.
That was crazy thats 1 session to tell the lads about down the pub and ya grand kids hand balling in a blue shark with ya bear hands!!!! Flipin brilliant the way that played out was briliant. Great effort mate loved every second. All the best tight lines 🎣🎣🎣
Very very lucky mate.
Always fun and interesting. Glad you got the line back and the tag in.
Me too mate.
Love your content, as a north east fisherman, we get nothing like you but your content keeps me intrested
Get Porbeagle and Tope up that way.
13mins in.... WOW!!!! You got it! Despite the line break! John... You are the best. (How many others would do what you did here!??) Brilliant video - as always.
Adapt and overcome. 👍🏻
Entertaining and educational once again.
Thanks Tony.
Great skill John, but more importantly, I'm off to check all my rod rings now! Thanks for posting.
If this video helps anyone learn then it’s worth it. 👍🏻🦈
Great video! She was kinda lumpy today and tough on gear. Nice work hand lining that shark in. Thanks! 🦈
Aye mate. Was a rough one. 🤣🌊
Incredible how visible that chum slick is. Gives such confidence seeing that.
Its a fundamental for successful sharking.
Well done on the shark mate 👍🏻👍🏻 and thanks for sharing another great video.👍🏻👍🏻
My pleasure bud.
I think that you have got the luck of the Irish never mind the shark being lucky Another cracking session John
Just understanding what the float was doing and the quick thinking to act. 🤷🏻♂️
glad to see there's fish about down next week for a couple of days.Don't think the rings are of the quality they once where, when rods where made to a specification not a price.Solid video again John
That’s the truth of it mate. All of them at the moment are made like that.z
That’s incredible hand lining a shark in. Well done. Crazy stuff
Haha. It wasn’t how I had intended on doing it, but it was a solution to the problem.
Hey these are the days of fishing that we remember the most
It is surely one I will remember
The ups and downs of fishing but no harm done. I will be glued to TFL to see more sharking when you are doing it John. I learnt a bagful today so thanks. on a lighter note..... Chum slick had me fall off my bosuns chair almost... saw a few of them when on a run ashore hanging around outside the dockyard gates , you could pick the scent up from the bilges mate 🤣
🤢
We don't remember all the fish jon, but we usually remember the crazy stories that go with the fish👍👍
Haha. That’s it mate, it not my best session but I will remember it.
Love the channel thank you for bringing us along 😀
Any time Carl, my pleasure.
Unbelievable 😲you don’t need a rod John , just keep catching them by hand 👏🏻👏🏻
Haha. Not sure it would have worked on a 200lber
Thanks John, I learned alot today. Your adventures on the seas are always enjoyable. I hope to one day get on the waters.
Good luck to you mate. 🎣🦈
"I've got a broken rod and a broken reel..." Yes indeed John!! BUT...your "spirit" and "attitude" are still top notch!!! No matter what happens, the good stuff will always keep it positive and almost always overshadow the negative!!! Dig, DmGrk
If you maintain a positive outlook to life, positive things happen. 😊👍🏻
Brilliant video, discovered your channel just over a week ago and haven't stopped watching!!! Proper fisherman and great guy!
Welcome mate.
At the beginning of this video you said it was not the best day for fishing. Then your first catch was a dog fish. Next was the fiasco with the snapped line and broken reel handle . I am totally amazed at the way you handled all of it. Here in the states we have a saying that the worst day fishing is better than the best day working. I think that fits your day perfectly! As always I love watching your videos.
Haha. We have a similar saying.
Great video there John, its briliant watching how calm you stay to overcome these 'situations' that occur when out on the water. Another really good watch, Thanks Ben.
Assess. Adapt. Overcome. It’s that simple. 😉🦈
Great work John to get both fish in, shows how easy it is for things to go wrong but also how well you dealt with those problems. Another brilliant video. Thank you.
Assess adapt and overcome.
Brilliant, seen people hand lining fish before but never sharks 👌🏻💪🏻🎣💙x
It isn’t how I would have wanted to do it but it worked.
@@TheFishLocker you made it look effortless x
Wow! Been watching you for ages and especially loved this one. Thanks so much for everything you do to bring us all your adventures. Love to your whole family x
It is my pleasure. Have a lovely day and take care. 😊🦈
I just caught a glimpse of the big bluey John 🦈
A nice fish to help with getting over a day of ups and downs 😊
Don't worry mate , we've all been there when it comes to tackle breakages 😢
Take care mate
Jason
It happens mate. Just adapt and overcome. 👍🏻🦈
"You've got to keep the deck clear..." 😁Brilliant job, loved it.
If I hadn’t kept the deck clear I wouldn’t have been able to retrieve the shark. And once it was dealt with the braid was all balled up.
This guy! Hand-lining sharks 😂 Nice one John
Not how things were supposed to go, but it worked.
Win win what a great come back and you got the shark bloody hell well done !!!
It worked out ok in the end. 😊🎣
I wondered when this video was coming. Cannot get enough of this style of fishing. Hopefully the first of a few shark sessions. We went right past HMS Albion and got some awesome photos last week. Brilliant vid. Hopefully be back soon. Tight lines.
As I said mate I’ve been super busy and the weather has been very poor.
Wow, that was exciting. Well done for hand lining the snapped line and saving the day, reminded me of a film. Hopefully, all the major fishing companies will see this and supply new rods and reels as sponsorship . Thanks for sharing 👍
I don’t need them mate. The broken rings have already been replaced and the handle is on order.
I do no envy one little bit London is so much more relaxing!!!
Haha. I think you are fibbing as I find London the most stressful place I’ve been too. 🤣
@@TheFishLocker If you know where to go there are many quiet and lovely spots in London. I think 45% of the city is green space. But central London is a nightmare, I've never seen so many tourists!
We've nearly given up on this summer's fishing because of all this wind. Won't be long before we're fishing with snow falling at this rate.... 😒
Tell me about it!! 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Amazing how you keep ya cool John, without a doubt, your one of the best most informative fisherman I have ever seen, keep up the great work fella.
Just sharing what I love doing mate. Simple and honest. 😊🦈
I cheered out loud watching that miraculous recovery!
It wasn’t how I had planned to land it but it worked. 🤣🤷🏻♂️
Some bad luck there john but also great that you got that hook out and got a tag in her
Great video john 👍
Understanding what seeing the float meant, quick actions and lot of luck mate. 😉🤷🏻♂️
@TheFishLocker indeed jonh well done
Glad you showed it in the video..... things go wrong sometimes even for you
And you did the right thing
Many thanks for sharing as always Mate :)
Very enjoyable to watch!!
Cheers
Rob.
My pleasure Rob.
"He can't go down with 3 barrels in him"
😆 🤣
Haha.
Great Fishing M8 - A master of your craft!
Just simply sharing what I enjoy doing. 😊
another good video john its a shame about the rods and reel but accidents happen
That’s it mate. Things happen you just adapt and move forward.
Thanks for that John been waiting for a shark video.
Greetings from Yorkshire
Been a long time coming this year mate.
It's alway nice to be included in your day.
I am glad that you enjoyed joining us.
Amazing fishing , seeing you out their in this Cornish weather at the moment is insane. great video
It’s not the nicest is it. 🤣🌊
Loved this video! What a crazy day! Thanks for sharing, John.
My pleasure mate.
You inspire me mate, what a banging retrieve 🎯
Awesome viewing as always..
Wasn’t the intended outcome mate but it came right in the end.
Well in John 👊 Shame about the rods
Easy fixes and 100% my fault.
Hi John
Great video mate. Boat fishing is all about things going wrong but when it all goes right they are the days to remember.
I have only had one sharking trip out mate weather has been wild. Had a couple of decent Tope but no big stuff. Our sharking grounds is back of the IOW. Hope the weather changes in our favour. Love watching your sharking trips. Tight Lines mate
Tony
Mate it’s painful this weather now. Half the season gone already!!
WOW How lucky was that, amazing fishing John.
Good understanding of what was going on and reacting to it plus a lot of luck.
@@TheFishLocker As one famous golfer once said, "the more I practice, the luckier I get".
That was brilliant. Luv watching shark fishing. Thank you John 👍
Thank you Linda. Have a lovely day.
Two beautiful Sharks & two nasty Chemtrails!
👍🏻🦈🦈
Hey Dude!
I'm in Greece on hols and you inspired me to bring a rod to shore fish for small species after your holiday videos.
I've been researching poisonous fish so I don't get caught out with spines.
I caught three fish yesterday on bread including a Salema Porgy. I read they can be toxic to eat and have been known to give LSD style trips. Pretty rare for that to happen I reckon!
Thanks for all the inspiration. I'm not sure I'll be up to sharks but love watching you do it.
Thanks again
Yes mate. The romans used to hold parties where they’d eat them and get all tripped out on them. 🤣
Hi John, found this very interesting and informative.
As you say it’s all about adapting to conditions and circumstances which you do admirably.
Good work out for thighs and calves!
Haha. Yes mate it was a rough one. 🌊
If it wasn't on video, no one would believe it!!! Amazing. Thanks so much for taking us along; I learn so much with each of your videos. Be well
Ain’t that the truth!! 🦈
I laughed when i saw that dogfish come up priceless.
You could put money on it. 🤣
Great experience and video, thanks John!!
My pleasure bud.
Awesome as always shipmate. Cheers Paul 👏👏
Thanks mate.
Well, that made for brilliant, dramatic viewing. I was on the edge of my seat.
Good luck/bad luck...who can say.
Thank you again for the graft you put in to make these videos.
My pleasure mate. Glad you enjoyed the video. 👍🏻🦈
John locker, last person from our training who I thought would make a UA-cam channel.
Was just speaking about you today coz someone at work mentioned they are heading to Whitby for a weekend.
And I was like… I wonder where locker is these days, low and behold you made a bloody UA-cam channel.
Not just a pretty face mate. 😉
What an amazing video thank you so much John I’m no fisherman. Keen to get into foraging and a bit of fishing but this video has been by far my favourite. Thank you very much.
It is my pleasure. 😊🦈👍🏻
That first loss & retrieve is worth a short edit and repost or something, classic, well done.
Haha. I don’t know if it would make a short or not?
What a beautiful morning! Again thank you for your videos John!
It is my pleasure.
Absolutely amazing John
Thanks Chris.
That was genuinely gripping, I was rooting for you hand balling that first shark in! Fantastic content. Thank you very much 👍🎣
Haha. Thanks mate. It was touch and go for a minute.
Hi John , if I didn't find that video interesting there's no hope for me ! Great skill in getting that first shark in . I've handlined for mackerel but never for sharks ! Hope you get your equipment sorted out . Looking forward to the next installment.
Haha. I wouldn’t recommend handlining for sharks, this wasn’t how the session was supposed to go!! 🤣🤦🏻♂️
When I was James’s age I used to fish with hand lines off Old Harry, Poole. Thank goodness there were no sharks around!
Haha. There probably were.
@@TheFishLocker there were certainly plenty of dog fish. I can still remember them curling back on themselves and sand papering the back of your hand.
Wow what a day. Terminal failures everywhere and you still managed to have an epic day. Just fantastic. 👏
Just adapt and overcome.
That was an amazing show John, never seen anything like it 🤣🤣 one in a million 😎
Just a lucky one mate.
@@TheFishLocker Nah - Experience outs! x
Hey John you must know the size of the boat makes a big difference fishing in some conditions, but like you if the fishing is good the conditions take second place , when you are running for home after a good session there is nothing better cheers
It was doable, just not comfortable 🤷🏻♂️🌊
Nice vid mate, handlining sharks in 💪🎣 i find the most frustrating sessions turn out to be best, once you get through all the bs that happens 😂
I would not say this was my best session, but it’s a memorable one. 🤣🦈
@@TheFishLocker haha, not with the broken rods and reels mate. I usually catch the best fish after a load of mishaps for some reason. That last blue shark was a beast
Couple of nice fish there John, considering the gremlins were about and things didn't go exactly to plan. Like you rightfully said, things can go south very quickly and in quick succession. Glad you got all the line, trace/gear and fish back, at least it was one fish tagged. Well coped with considering the mishaps and conditions. That second fish did look a lot bigger, and being at the side of the boat, and you with trace in hand, can be classed as caught. All the best to you and family and Tl's for your next trip.
Thanks mate. Not the greatest if sessions but one I shall remember
Fantastic vid John, super effort !!!
Thanks Rob.
Great video, John. I have had bad luck with ceramic guides as they are prone to breaking so I don't use them anymore.
Most rods have them now unfortunately. 🤷🏻♂️
Amazing video! Thanks for sharing it with everyone. 👍
My pleasure, I hope the videos are educational for everyone.
@@TheFishLocker Always very educational, and great fun to. I've been in Weymouth for a few years now after the city, and all your videos are so interesting for me. Many thanks.
@@matred3538- We have visited Weymouth a few times. Good fishing spot.
Have to say, this is the absolute best fishing channel on UA-cam! You are a truly great fisherman and a brilliant presenter. Top top marks!
Thank you very much Aaron. I am simply sharing what I know and love doing. 😊🦈
@@TheFishLocker I will be honest, I would seldom go fishing with anyone normally, but you have inspired me to consider taking up the sport again, especially sea fishing. I've binged watched loads of your content, and it makes me realise just how much I miss the sea. Thanks for a truly fantastic channel.
Spot on!! What a bit of luck finding that shark still on
Yes mate. A LOT of luck.
Not sure if I have ever seen someone catch a shark by hand before. Well done Sir!
Haha. It wasn’t what I had planned to happen but it got the job done.
Very enjoyable vid this one John. We had to depart Kernow early and didn't manage the trips we wanted so this makes up for it.
The weather has been terrible.
brill john you make things look so easy but a big swell and 2hrs chugging out a long sail well done mate it looks great on my laptop not the boat keep the vids coming
Haha. Yes mate. Far more comfortable on the laptop than the boat. 🤣
That was brilliant John, thank you so much, I also caught my first shark down in Falmouth many years ago, regards to the family, greetings from Cyprus. 🐟🐟🐟🐟👌👌
It’s a great place to start. 😊👍🏻
Fair play to you for going and getting that tackle.
Total respect for the fish and the ocean, amazing 😁👍🏽
I’m glad it worked. 🤣🦈
Me to bud 👍🏽
I'm amazed how calm your are! Its a rough sea, broken line, hand lining a shark yet you are still as cool as a cucumber. I'd be an absolute wreck
Getting worked out and flapping doesn’t help what you’re doing. Just assess, adapt and overcome. 😊🎣🦈
