Its obvious where your heart is. I will never understand decorators who tell people not to keep pictures of family in living areas. I lost my oldest brother only two weeks ago, suddenly. I just sat in my living room, and theres a picture of me and my four brothers, as children, then posing identically in a picture, adults now. Behind that, a picture of him holding up a fish he'd just caught. Fishing, his favorite pastime. Im so grateful to have that picture, not just any piece of art.

I really like that picture over your couch, with all the detail of the houses in the background and the bay. I liked the Scripture from Ruth. When I looked it up, I figured it was that one. You have a great devotion to your mother and your family. Ruth's conversion to the God of Israel and love and devotion to her mother-in-law qualified her to be a part of the lineage to King David and ultimately the Son of David, Christ. Love, obedience and sacrifice are always honored and never overlooked by God.

I see complexity and simplicity. I observe melancholy and strength. You are so emotional, connected, yet structured. I sound like a soothsayer, but in reality I am simply an old lady who is using a long spoon to polish off the last bit of my Nutella wannabe, musing about how satisfied I feel about my own Spring refresh with colours that schmutz together coffee tones, creams, beiges, linens, yellows, berry tones and sky blues and Spring greens.... Yup. Purging is so freeing, and nesting palates releases the soul into new possibilities. What brings me back down to earth - every time - are those hairball fuzzballs that keep gathering, requiring CLEANING. Ruins my days, I tell ya!

Trying to be more "minimal". and I have to tell you - it sure takes a lot less time to clean! I have a picture on my office wall with Ruth 1:16. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. With a golden retriever looking out of a car window. Because. My name is Ruth, and I did have a golden retriever who stuck to me like glue! Very nice place. I am reflecting after watching, asking myself if I have anything I would call keeping for sentimental reasons. Almost nothing. Maybe because I did not inherit anything other than my mother's costume jewelry, which I store condensed in a nice crystal jar on a dresser in her memory. Nothing else. I might feel different if had furniture or decorations from my parents. My husband though is far more sentimental and a keeper of stuff. It's a challenge at times. I know he has things stuffed where I have not looked. If we were to downsize and he was still dragging it along......

Thank you for the tour and story behind the items that matter. Your home reflects you and your personality, which to me is so lovely! Outside the bricks, not matching makes that area perfectly imperfect, drawing the story of change. I love that you honour your Dad and brother with their belongings. Family photographs are perfect, as are your captures of special places.
You are so lucky to have your Mom so near, and it's beyond precious that you admit to her still 'caring' for you! I lost my Dad 31 years and Mum 28 years ago. How I miss their care.

I haven’t been retired that long. I had plans to do the same with my mom, but unfortunately she passed away. Not sure wants in store for the rest of my journey. I commented because i had the same roll top desk growing up I reluctantly parted with it. Enjoyed your tour.

You definitely have not lost your mind. I think you are absolutely on to something here. And I am fascinated by the concept. I think I am already embarked on following suit

This is good inspiration for me. Your place looks restful and purposeful. I love the way you have a few treasured items here and there. The box I went through yesterday turned out to be stuff that my father saved. Things of importance for him. His thesis, stuff from his job at IBM, things from his time in the army at the end of WWll. It was overwhelming. It is all back in the box, I don't want to face it, but where will I keep it? I don't even want to keep it, but at least want the kids to look it over. These are the things that stop me in my tracks. This video reminds me what I am going for, where I want to be. Thank you so much.

We all love to peep into another's life, and yours doesn't disappoint. You're so open and interesting. Loved your little tour. I just discovered you have a Ted talk, which I shall investigate later.

You have worked hard to make a beautiful, calming home. I love that you cherish your sentimental items. It’s none of my business but I wouldn’t put a lamp in the corner of the bedroom. Let your beautiful art shine with just the bench.

VERY nice space! I am shocked that you got all that livable space from the unfinished basement you showed in the old video. It looked so much smaller before it was finished off! It is so great that you have a multigenerational home. I wish more people did this.

I lost my husband of forty six years in January. Downsizing is tough and some things, like you said, will be with me forever. But you cant keep it all. Your place looks comfy and cozy.😊

I never lived in a home with a finished basement but always admired them. It doubles your living space. Wondering if all homes will be built with a finished basement in the future.

Very nice apartment. Thank you for sharing a little bit if your life with us.
I’m working on decluttering tight now and the hardest thing for me are things that were given to me by my kids and grandkids. My heart is too big I guess.
You have a very beautiful family. God bless 🙏🏻❤️

My dad was fairly tall (6’3”), and he built a platform to make his recliner taller. You might enjoy using the chair more if it was easier to get out of!

maybe...but the chair is not for sitting

Your dad’s chair is very nice. Couldn’t you add new legs to it to raise it up, so you could use it?

Thankfully you were both okay when the tree fell on your house. I live in Michigan and just a week or two ago we had a tornado come through suburban detroit, and a tree fell on a bedroom where a mother and her 2 year old son were sleeping. Sadly the child died, and the mom is I believe still in the hospital. It took 25 firefighters to get them out and it was an absolutely horrible event!
