To all that commented about the new Ektachrome being a bit underexposed. Yes it does underexpose if you don't make a few adjustments. I noticed this when I shot my first roll of this stuff back in 2018. When I shot my second roll I increased the f-stop by 1/2. So basically if the auto-exposure read f-16 I switched to manual and moved the needle somewhere between f16-11. When that film came back the results were near perfect. I'd like to also point out that you would probably be OK increasing this emulsion by 1 f-stop. This film seems to like light. Once you have this ironed out the end result on projection is awesome! Low grain, good colors, nice contrast, and good sharpness as well
You did a great job editing those analog clips! I remember that most of those modern super8 film does not comes with magnetic strip that recording soundtrack, not a good news though. But anyway, you’ve been showing how super8 positive film touches in near 2020s, and those whom watching your video would feels like they’ve time travel half an century before. Great work.
I shot a roll of 100D last month. It's a nice stock and looks good projected. I have noticed it tends to go dark on the shadows rather quickly. I think a 1/3 of a stop might help brighten the scene a bit and allow more detail in the shadows. Subjects in the direct sun look great! Overall I like it and the fact it has low grain. The next roll I shoot, as mentioned, I will be increasing the f-stop slightly. Also a word of a caution in bright sun light and anywhere near water a ND filter is highly recommended. I had a scene near water on a bright sunny day and the f-stop registered at 22. Not a good aperture for sharpness. The scenes I shot in the sun away from water were fine. I ended up cutting out the water scenes because of all the light refraction, etc.
Looks pretty good. I loved 100D's original saturation, but it's better that it got toned down. It seemed to overwhelm the sharpness sometimes, especially in the reds. Now the color balance seems a little bit closer to normal, more like E64T.
Looking great - thanks for these great first impressions! I never thought I'd see the day of reversal film coming back to Super8... Grew up with that format around my grandfather, took over his camera a couple of years ago and have very selectively shot a cassette every blue moon... stockpiled a few before it was discontinued. The only thing I dislike about the new version is the cost - my past purchase was 15€ per cassette, now it's 60... without development. But... it's back!
Honestly... it looks bad. I can't nail down the details but somehow no Super8 color film looked better than Kodachrome. I often found abandoned rolls of home movies shot on Kodachrome and pick them up for fun, to see the past at its raw, and the pictures are so crisp and vibrant it makes you think how many rolls were chucked after being transfered to vhs long time ago. It's not rocket science, no research is required, to say that the film revival is missing on what was the best film stock ever made, now replaced with the hype of black&white and e6 slide films that will never come even close. Our still fresh memories are less than optimal now and will with time fade to either red tints or flat blues, just like that old man's slide of his car. Enjoy what you can while you can, but push for the return of the greatest!
Film photos might have their pros over digital, but film videos are horrible when compared to digital. Film photography is worth preserving, but videos, not so much. Nobody is gonna miss these.
2018 but looks like 1968, amazing

Amazing footage in super8(great)🎥🎞🎬
The classic look has certainly returned.

A little underexposed, but jeez, great low grain film.

looks immaculate
Tim Prebble!! I've been in love with his blog for years. He does absolutely some of the best wild sounds and interesting Foley, truly world class.
This is a fantastic test! What was the color chart that was used on some shots, including your father's?

Looks nice and thick and little grain but the footage is def underexposed. Very very glad its back.
This is just beautiful
Excellent!!! Super 8 is back!!! Yessssss...
yeah.....didn't last long. it all sold out in like a week. idiots.
More coming soon!@@therestorationofdrwho1865
what a gem.
Thank you very much! This was wonderful
beautiful film !!!
Very nice work man.
Wonderful. Any tips for recording sound with Super 8?
What was the wattage of the indoor halogen lights?
Awesome to see modern Super 8 work! Where/how did you get it scanned? And at what resolution? Thanks!
Of course, you are using the best cameras. Not everyone has access to those great cameras so their footage won't look as good.
grazie Kodak ti amo
Beautiful footage! How much footage do you get out of 1 roll?
50ft, 15m. Around 3:15 mins.
I’d like to see it projected.
same
1:44 anyone else notice these two shots under exact same conditions have slightly different color grades? second shot is slightly cooler.
I think the camera has automatic exposure adjustment, ektachrome does whacky stuff as soon as you move it.
How much did you have to pay to take part in this?
Pet eels?? That's a new one
Did you underexposed half a stop or so?
so how did you get chosen? i despise kodaks methods.

Looks pretty bad for 2019.
